Beautiful filter, poor case design

The design of the protective is case is not well thought out. I struggle to pull the rubber part of the case off. I am a woman, average height. My hands just aren't that strong. However, even men who I have asked to take the rubber piece off the filter struggle. It is really difficult to open the case up. I have no other way to protect the filter, especially when I am traveling. So I keep it in the case. But hopefully future designs find an alternative way to keep the filter safe and make it easy to open when you want to use it. The filter its self is absolutely beautiful and I have no complaints. Wish I never bought this. Waste of money. I was incredibly excited for this filter, compared it to the B+W, Hoya, reviews seemed to say this was the move. If this is the move, the others must be terrible. You truly can't rotate your camera if you hold it vertically. I asked polarpro to explain this and they said What you are seeing there is the result of polarization. Yes, I agree that is what is happening, but not being able to simply rotate your camera for landscape shots is utterly ridiculous. I sent them a video of rotating my camera and the color changing. They also said you can fix it in post, well sure, except that you lose tremendous detail in the photo because its not just the warmth that happens you also lose detail.HERE IS THE KICKER!!! These are the most well thought out filters I've had the pleasure to use. The front rubber cap is also used as the grip to mount/demount the filter to the lens. And it also be used as a lens cap if not using a lens hood. And the rear screw on cap provides a positive means of attachment rather than a friction cap that may fall off.An additional advantage of these units is not having to use a rectangular plastic case to house the filters. Since one end is protected by a metal cap and the other by a thick rubber, they fit more easily into my backpack.

Good build quality, but not worth the price
27 September 2021

This review is for the Peter McKinnon Signature series VND II Mist edition 6-9 filter. The build quality is very good and I love the no touch case it comes with. The vmd stops are decent, but nothing exceptional and with only 3 stops per filter, you are severely limited and for a very steep price. Add to that, the diffusion built into the Most edition, I expected to see much more diffusion. It's barely even noticeable. They need to drop this price by about $100 and that is where the value for this filter should be.PolarPro's CPL filter is excellent however, and is worth the asking price IMO. Buy that and save your money on a less expensive and more flexible VND than this series. I'm a fan of Peter McKinnon, but not these filters.

Great filter, not so great cover
9 December 2022

Love the ease of use, each stop has a satisfying click to let you know. However, I was a bit afraid of how the rubberized cover is taken off. I liked to switch between my Sony and moment lens depending on the shot. Unfortunately, the cover cannot be safely taken off unless it’s attached to my Sony camera. I tried to detach it while it was connected to my moment case and instead broke the lens casing on my phone. Lesson learned. Either always have the filter exposed, or don’t switch camera bodies when using it.

Great filter. Came very dirty
14 December 2022

Awesome filter. Crystal clear nice feedback and different stops of nd. It came very dusty tho. And the filter had lots of smudges I had to clean off. Great product. Not the best handling/storage if I got a “brand new” filter and it came dirty. Like very dirty for something new. Filter works great tho and everything cleaned off in the end. Not what I like to see when I open a $200 filter but at least it works

Incorrect thread pitch for modern lenses
28 May 2022

I have a brand new sigma 150-600 lens with a brand new B + W UV filter. Straight to the lens this PolarPro filter will not attach as there are two prominent issues. First, there aren't enough threads to screw on far enough and most importantly, they are not the correct pitch. In further testing, if I try to screw it to the UV filter then it binds in half of a turn and does not screw on all the way.I can not recommend a product that does not function as it is supposed to. Unfortunately, I have the exact same filters in 77mm that do not possess this issue. So I must assume this is simply a poor oversight in either PolarPro's QC and/or engineering. I will attempt to resolve the issue with B&H and will notify PolarPro to see how good their customer service really is.

It's good enough but not as good as B+W
1 December 2021

I tried many variable ND filters. I think this is a lot better filter than a majority of others brands. However, the quality is far less than B+W variable filter. Although PloarPro has more whistles and bells for packaging and stuff, the actual image is not as good as B+W.It's really hard for me to explain, but the clarity of the image, almost no vignette on B+W is a clear winner. In terms of build quality, I also can only give 3 stars. It's a brilliant system in theory. However, it feels cheap. It's not as smooth as it is supposed to be when I try to take the cap off and back. B+W filter doesn't have the cap system or whatnot, but It's a solid and simple ND filter you can feel the german quality. The marketing was powerful on this product. Outstanding quality it produced and superbly designed

One of those filter that so invaluable for achieving shallow depth of field when creating video content outdoor in a bright condition which allows you to use wider aperture like f1.4-2.8.Premium quality and beautifully designed. Even though it's very costly and now I thinking to get 6-9 stops as well for even brighter outdoor condition. Also used to create some motion blur on my Timelapse's. It's well protected by flexible 360 rubber casing for dust/water proofing and overall protect the filter.I'm really happy with filter and worth the investment!
