we played Power Hungry Pets with a group of 6 and overall it was positively received!! relatively easy to pick up…our second game went quick!! even the person who doesn’t normally enjoy this type of game liked the twists & turns & how every game can be different!! those elimination rules were wild and really made us laugh. we were concerned about replayability over time with the same group BUT playing with different age ranges in different circles would definitely avoid that. overall a great game at a reasonable price!!

Simple, yet strategic. Quick, but engaging. My family and I enjoyed this game very much. It’s so easy to setup and the rules are pretty straight forward. EK continues their amazing streak of making the rules accessible via video and print. The rounds go by quick, but that’s okay because it requires you to win multiple rounds to be the GAME winner. There is strategy involved, but not to the point where it overwhelms the gameplay. My daughter and I played together and it was fun, but adding my wife made the game more interesting. I think the ideal number of players would be 4 to 5, but 2 is all that is needed for a fun game session. I would highly recommend and can’t wait to share the game with friends and family.

When we first played (ages 17-57) I wasn’t too sure about it, as it seemed too basic. However, as we played through the rounds and got more aware of some of the strategies to not lose too quickly, it became much more interesting. It was remarkably easy to learn the rules and we were up and going pretty quickly. What I really liked was that there really weren’t a million rules to learn, although reading glasses for this old geezer did help! It’s a quick game. With 3 of us it was as suggested, a15 minute game, and although it is a simple game it was fun to play as your strategy develops. We all gave it a thumbs up, and it’s added to the rotation!

What is an exploding kitten game if you’re not laughing your butt off. I don’t know because it doesn’t exist. EK games has yet again released a game that has me laughing at the reactions of people due to crazy turn of events. As simple as Power Hungry Pets seems, it comes packed with tons of funny moments and replayability. Its simple but addictive loop makes me want to try over and over again until I win the next round, by playing one card at a time and trying to eliminate your friends from the round or getting the highest value possible from the cards. Some rounds may be very long while others may be too fast due to clever elimination (sometimes luck). I see what EK is saying about this game being made for people who don’t like strategies. There are strategies but they are meant to be short and sweet and it doesn’t have you counting dots like domino games. At the end of the day we enjoyed ourselves, laughed at funny tragedies and didn’t have to spend 4 hours on it. I recommend giving it a try. You’ll love it.
Another winner from Exploding Kittens. The game is easy to learn but involves a bit of strategy. What cards have been played? Which are left? What is in my opponents’ hands? How can I position myself to be in the best place at the end without being eliminated? Lots to think about with only one card in our hand. We played with a wide range of ages and all were enjoying the fun. One note that the box says game length is 15 minutes. I would say the average game is longer than that, mostly because you are enjoying the banter among players as they vie for victory. If your game only takes 15 minutes, you are speed running it.
When we first read through (I know, I know... "Reading instructions is the worst way to learn a new game") the instructions, we were a little confused about the Elimination process. However, that confusion only lasted a round or so (and after watching the instruction video, which we should have done firstly!)My wife and I played a couple rounds, and found that it can certainly be a ruthless little game. You may think you're set to win with the highest numbered card - but oh, ho-ho-ho [devilish laugh], don't get too ahead of yourself. The tables can quickly turn against you. That said, I think this game will be a great time with 3-5 people. We love having silly games that we can bring out after dinner and play with family and friends and this one fits the bill. Setup is super quick and the fast pace keeps it interesting. Since players can only have two cards in their hands, you don’t have to wait and wait for them to decide the best card to play. Art work is great of course as it is in the Exploding Kittens family of games. We have played it so many times and have only had it a few days. Highly recommended!
This is a fun game that my wife and I played. We think it will be even more fun with more players on a game night. If you play with two, we suggest removing the Battle Bunny cards so the game won't have a chance to end too quickly. Maybe add a timer of say 20-30 seconds per turn so you can't just view all the available cards and know what is left in play. A little bit of strategy and a little bit of luck baked into one game. That keeps it interesting and fun with great replay value! The cards are longer than most cards which adds a little to the game and a challenge to shuffle without taking away from the game. Another amazing Kittens game!!
I really enjoyed playing Power Hungry Pets even though my wife consistently one each game we played. The rules are very simple but there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to determining which cards to play and which ones to hold on to. This game would be perfect for families with kids. It would also be good for those friends who hate games that require reading instructions as the instructions are short (and there is also an instruction video online). The game is very quick to play and comes in a small form factor which makes it a great travel companion that can be whipped out at the airport or at the hotel. I wish the cards were a standard deck size as they were difficult for me to shuffle, but the bigger size does show the art better (which I really liked) ... MoreI really enjoyed playing Power Hungry Pets even though my wife consistently one each game we played. My eleven year old and I really loved playing this one - the combo of luck and strategy really added to the deceptively simple gameplay mechanic. We really enjoyed all of the cards, except for the Crystal Ball card (lol) - my daughter wanted me to make sure to share her annoyance with “always getting that one,” but I think every great game needs THAT card.I think this one is great for two, but would be incredible with 4. We plan on playing with the grandparents a weekend soon. This one is easy enough for the whole family to learn, but can get prettty cutthroat if you aren’t careful!
