Rapala X-Rap Magnum 12 cm Lure

Very good lures. Beautifully constructed. When you lose one you cry! But the main thing is these particular lures are great for Kingfish. They dive as advertised and swim very straight with an aggressive wiggle. Single hook is also great for times when you have a fish you want to release.

Been using them for 20 years

These lures Catch everything. Best for Spanish, but I have also caught Coral Trout, Large mouth Nannygai, Long Tail tuna. The new HD colours look fake, I like the old patterns and colours.

Go to lure for Wahoo

Got a couple of the Mag 40 for my fall long range trip for Wahoo off Baja. I fished the Sea of Cortez in southern Baja for years, and X-Raps caught were my go to lure for Wahoo. Purple mackerel, plus Hot Head (add black mackerel stripes on the top) were my top producers.

Go to trolling lure.

Rapala make some of the best value lures on the market. The 14cm lure is rated at a 6m dive but will regularly get much deeper. Cracker lure for big snapper and mackerel. Swims straight right out of the box. Virtually indestructible, the through wire is very strong. I have had other lures crushed in the jaws of big snapper. The rapalas are equal to the task.

Great all rounder

This is my second one of these lures. My first one was so scratched up but kept on catching until someone ran across my lines. Definitely my most favourite lure. Mackerel, tuna, cod and I've even somehow hooked up to a marlin that got off. Does cop a scratching from toothy critters

Horrible

Fished a tournament this past weekend. We normally use a different brand on diving lure but thought wed try these thinking they were better quality and would last longer. Nope. We went 0/8 on hook ups while trolling these. We got strikes but every single fish got off the hook. We switched back to our norm, and landed every single fish we hooked. We believe it has to do with the angle the lure swims at while trolling. Not 100% sure but we certainly wont be using these anymore.

Lure took on water and became unusable

This is, of course, a great and effective lure. That said, on the first outing (after boating several nice yellowfin tunas) I noticed water inside the lure. It was working well so I kept using it, however, it reached a point where it no longer ran right and would come to the surface. Needless to say, Tackle Direct took care of me and a replacement lure was shipped immediately. Other X-Rap Magnums working great!

Quality control??

This lure , when it runs true , is hard to beat . I've been buying them since they first came out . 80 percent run great . I've caught wahoo , yellow fin tuna , grouper ,and even the odd striped marlin down in Baja . It's just the 20 percent that that won't run true over 5 knots that keeps me from giving it a perfect score . Favorite color is Bonita .

The same lure from two different fishermen

Sailing down the Atlantic coast I was a beginner fisherman. The first old fisherman I met in NY Harbor, took me to his boat and showed me this lure and said "This is the one that catches the fish". Down of the Carolina coast a tackle store owner said, "My best lure is this one" and handed me the exact same lure. I've caught Wahoo, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, a 90 lb. Sailfish and more with this lure. Buy it!

They filled with water on first troll

I recently purchased the silver and yellow fin tuna xraps. On the first troll about 5 minutes probably less than that I noticed that the lures were not moving like they should. So I reeled them up to looked at them and to my dismay there was water inside the lures. I then started shaking them and the water won’t come out of them so now they just helicopter out of the water when trolling /junk/ there are. I’m an avid fishermen with a ton of rapala lures. But these x-rap magnum’s no good. They cost too much for this to happen don’t buy them.
