This is the magic answer to so many problems. You are cutting out a piece of subfloor, and you use a regular circular saw and the saw kicks back and could and will cause bodily injury. Cutting a window into the existing siding, don't use a sawmill or jig saw. And don't stick a regular circular saw into the siding as it will kick back when it hits the siding. Yes I have been doing it the dangerous way and the sloppy way and getting really bad curved cuts and almost took my limbs off. with this saw you just place the base on the line, and then push down to insert the blade into the new cut. Great little saw. 2 minor issues. The dust collection port plugs when cutting soft woods and sheet PVC. The saw creates a course sawdust when cutting these 2 items. The plunge guide (start and stop point of blade) on the side is not that clear. Easily fixed by highlighting using small pieces of painter's tape. Excellent power and works great, and with battery promotion / sale this tool was really cheap.

Great little saw; light and easy to handle.

Love the light weight, small blade and top handle. (I didn't get it for a review, I paid full price). I've used it for a few months, and it has become one of my favs! I can use it as a regular, or a plunge saw. I put a thin nylon strap through the thin holes in the front of the bottom plate, wrapped it around the handle and tied it with the blade exposed at just over 3/4". I just leave it that way and mostly use it for 3/4" ply but find it very handy to use even for 1/4" plywood. If I need to use it for a plunge cut it would take about 20 seconds to remove the nylon strap.

Great power, but not perfect

Great inexpensive tool but . . .First blade change is awkward. I found a simple work around. Using a small bungee cord, hold the blade in a partial plunge (see photo). From there, the blade change is as easy as on any circular saw. On a safety note : I usually install a blade with the label facing out. This is correct if using genuine Ryobi 3 3/8 blades. Other 3 3/8" brand saws rotate clock wise (opposite to Ryobi). Worse still some online generic blades do not label rotation. On this saw you rotate the Allan screw Clockwise to loosen.Second, For accurate cuts it difficult to know where a plunge cut starts / ends. I use green painters tape to highlight those points. The "course" sawdust catches on the two wires at the side of the port, and the port plugs up. See PhotoConsidering how cheap this tool was (free when buying 2 batteries), I can not complain

Great thinner materials

This is a great small saw. The plunge feature allowing cuts to begin anywhere in the material is very useful for certain tasks. The plunging f also functions as the variable depth for all cuts. Pairing this with a clamped down straight edge allows it to function like a very inexpensive small track saw. I have used this saw to cut wood, MDF, acrylic, and stainless steel with great success. Use the metal blade backwards on acrylic for a nice clean cut.

Lightweight and easy to use.

It's very lightweight and easy to handle with one hand. I put a thin nylon strap through the edge guide holes, tied it around the handle after I set the depth of cut to just over 3/4". I can change it back to plunge cut at any time. I use it for 3/4" ply and even 1/4" ply without resetting it. I like that the handle is above the body, I don't like to hold onto the motor due to strong electric and magnetic fields. (Increased big C risk- look it up!) The blades it came with work well. It's strong enough and works great for me.

Perfect circular saw for those not-so-big jobs. Compact in size, but plenty of power and a great addition for those who already own a Ryobi 18v tool or three. Comes with three blades cutting for wood, metal, and tile, as well as a guide for rip cutting and a shop vac adapter for managing the sawdust. As another added bonus, it’s much quieter than a full size circular. Blade changes are a cinch with the included 4mm wrench, and it’s equally easy to set up your cutting depths with an easy to read gauge on the front of the saw. Maximum cutting depth is an inch, and it cut through a scrap 1x6 like butter. Only gripe: I wish it had included a carry case / bag. This is a tool only, so if you don’t already have another Ryobi 18v tool, you’ll need to order a battery.

The adjustable plunge cut allows for accurate and repeatable depth of cut as well as being able to set the saw down after the cut without worrying about the spinning blade. I also used the plunge setting to score the top of the tile before cutting all the way through which reduced chipping. The saw guide is adjustable and secure. Dust collection is easy with the attached hose connection. This is a portable battery operated hand saw which has sufficient power for most materials which are of an appropriate size. I found it to have plenty of power for a battery operated circular saw, in that it has 3 3/8" sized blades, so your max thickness is probably about 1.5 or 1.75" at most. I tired it on 3/4 inch oak plywood, and found it to have an easy time cutting the boards. It probably can cut the 1.5" side of a 2X4" board, but that is really pushing it.Anyway, For quick little jobs its works pretty well, with I would say almost too many safety features. The blade then extends to its max or to the limit depth setting which you must preset before cutting. I find that a bit difficult to use in that with light materials especially, you have to then have a very solid backing for your cut or the blade will bounce from the setting to retracted and your cut will not be good. I much prefer setting the blade depth, then gradually making the cuts. The way you must use this tool, you have to press down continually, or the blade will retract. I do not like that method. Anyway, for boards on a flat cutting surface, it will work fine. Otherwise be careful.

Three useful differences from typical circular saw.1) Cuts closer to edge guide, Minimum clearance only ~3/8 inch2) Can also cut horizontally (rotating saw on side onto the blade guard which matches edge of bottom plate at 90 degree.)3) better dust containment, with mostly enclosed blade guard and spring-loaded plunge movement keeping it against work surface.It worked well to undercut fireplace brick & mortar with diamond tile blade (see photos), and to cut sub-floor close to obstructions.
