A Great Second Phone with Quality Build

Apps open relatively quickly, screen scrolling is smooth and the 4G modem is holding its own. I haven't been able to test the 5G capability yet as I refuse to pay extra just so I can get 5G. I checked online after that call to see if it could repaired independently and it turns out the power button and the volume button which are on the same strip are so built to the phone in its very hard to replace, as these are the only two physical buttons on this phone they should be easy to replace there position in the phone feels deliberate so you have to send your phone to Samsung to be repaired that feels very predatory and is what earns this phone and Samsung a 1 star rating.

I was in need of a new phone and found this on sale at a great price. The features are excellent and being a 5G capable phone will see me through for the next few years. The features are easy to navigate and use, setup of the phone was a little too long but necessary to get it working well. The fingerprint scanner was a little hit and miss and took several tries to setup. As with all new smartphones they are just way too big for comfort in the hand as I have smaller hands and makes using it a little difficult. Being at the low end of the price for a Samsung phone it does not have an IP rating and requires a waterproof case and screen protector for a small extra cost. The initial use with the camera to scan QR codes was streamlined until the last update where it fails to read the QR codes from the camera and had to download a QR scanner. Bit disappointing and a hassle but not a deal breaker. This is an excellent phone with good build quality, the screen is not an AMOLED display but still very useable, as long as it is facing you directly to get the best image possible. AS a TFT display it does have a falloff when viewing at extreme angles, still viewable and useable but a little annoying. Overall this is a good value phone for most users of a new smartphone without the premium price of the latest model. It is in my opinion a better buy than an Iphone which is way too overpriced for what you get. Highly recommended.

Brilliant, beautiful joy of a phone.
2 July 2022

Brilliant phone, a joy to use, and all at an unbelievably customer-friendly price. Undoubtedly, one of the best purchases I've ever made. Screen - great, deep colours and easy on the eye. Phone - clear, true sound. Speed from off - fast. Downloads - fast. Uploads - fast.Radio - reception and sound quality quite amazing - no need for a large radio and speaker when this little gem is so good. Cameras - wow! Why lug my dedicated camera around when the lenses, colour, and features are so very good on this beautiful, multi-purpose, slim, pocketable little gem of a machine. Loads of great features. Worth 3 times the price. Have been joyfully recommending this phone to all my friends and acquaintances.

Disappointing, no NFC/contactless payments
27 September 2021

No NFC in Australia, despite being available on the overseas models, so no contacless payment options. The screen shot is clumsy and frequently ends up as a shot of the drop down menu as it appears the second my finger goes near the power button. My old sony xperia only required one hand for a screen shot, this phone requires two. The fingerprint reader is average, although it's a little better now that i have a case for the phone. Overall, I am really disappointed. I really wanted another xperia but the $ of the new ones and lack of availability meant that I had to choose otherwise. This phone really feels like I settled for second best (or maybe fifth or sixth.) While i certainly won't be throwing this phone away, I won't be buying another Samsung when it's due ... MoreNo NFC in Australia, despite being available on the overseas models, so no contacless payment options. Don't bother
9 December 2022

No NFC.. why would Samsung disable such a basic feature. Overseas models apparently have this enabled.Light sensor can't decide how bright to make the screen a lot of the time, and will reduce brightness indoors to the point you can't really see anything. Outside it over brightens and blows all the colours so display looks orange.Lastly fast charging does not work at all. I have had this phone about 1.5 years and used a multitude of different cables and chargers and it will never charge faster than 900mA. Pathetic.

I would pass this up, despite it being priced well

To be fair to all companies, I never review anything after just buying the product. So, I've had the phone now well over a year. I can't say it's the worst phone I've ever had... but it's not far from it.Here are the major complaints:1. When on a phone call, the proximity sensor (as in, its against your ear) will fail and without my knowledge, start launching apps, change settings, etc.. all because the "switching the phone to call mode" fails. This is horrible, happens on every call, which makes this phone nearly unusable unless I use either speaker mode or headphones2. The camera, while ok for the budget range, is all pretty horrible at taking any photos unless you have the steady hands of a zen master. Any mild movements, at all, produces a blurry shot.3. 7 ... MoreTo be fair to all companies, I never review anything after just buying the product. So, I've had the phone now well over a year. Double tapping the screen while in sleep mode, you know, to see who just messaged you? or rang you? or to see what notification you just received... isn't a double tap, its a 5-10 tap ordeal... one of the most unresponsive phones I've ever had5. The finger/touch sensor to unlock the phone is horrible... while of course I can add another "5 fingers" using the same thumb as I always do does the trick, I'm sorry... but just not good enough.6. Went to a customer to fix his computer. Used my "5g" to download a driver, I noticed I was getting about 500Kb to 1MB a sec... he then connected his phone instead, and was getting 10MB a sec, I asked, what carrier you using... he then gave me the same carrier I was on. :(7. So many more negatives, that I'm sure no one has gotten this far to read any of it...Positives:Battery life so far has been decentIt doesn't seem to overheat while I'm using GPS and having it mounted on my windshield mount in the very hot sun, as other flagships has always overheat quicklyThe calls when speaking are clear and no complaintsThe price to power value is decent, in other words... games run smooth enough for what this phone is, though don't expect to run ANY proper new gen 3d gamesIt has a headphone jack and expandable memory... good

No NFC for contactless payment
26 December 2022

I'm already wishing I hadn't bought this phone. I'm on Disability Support Pension & a single mother of 2. I bought this phone as my Christmas present from my kids. I had an old galaxy a5 which I couldn't upgrade any more but at least I could use it for making contactless payments through nfc. This a22 5g does not have nfc & I cannot afford another new phone. Why would you take away a feature that is being so widely used these days??? Waiting anxiously now to find out what else I can't do with this phone. Not very happy at all.

Unhappy with this model. I cannot recommend it.
14 October 2022

I bought this samsung A22 mobile. I like that I can call receive calls and message. I cannot connect to the internet without WiFi and a WiFi password. The model I bought is faulty. I need internet without WiFi for navigation in traffic. Office Works refuses to refund my money for this faulty product. I kept the receipt, but unfortunately lost the receipt. I feel put off buying from Office works due to thus experience.
