I was seeking a weather-resistant, key-less system for multiple doors in a multifamily residence. I found the Schlage model FE595 easy to install and program. There are 19, user-programmable codes which can be used simultaneously in each lock. This permits me to program multiple doors with one (or more), four-digit code assigned to each tenant (e.g.the tenant gets to chose their four digit code which will permit them access to garage, laundry, utility room, foyer, and their residence- if that's the way you wish to manage access). When their lease terminates, their code(s) can be erased from each common area door in minutes without affecting access codes assigned to the other tenants. No chasing and labeling hard keys! The metal finish feels durable as do the buttons; the numbers won't wear off.A brand-name, 9-volt battery was supplied and the instructions estimate 2-year life. An indicator flashes to signal the need for battery replacement which should take minutes using a screwdriver from the inside of the door. Codes are retained while the battery is replaced.Instructions were clear and there are programming videos on Youtube.I will buy again.

It worked for only two months. I thought it was the battery. When I tried to change the battery, I saw the wires were frayed with metal sticking out. I did receive a refund for the unit, however I also paid for the installation of the keypad. I don’t know if the unit was defective or was damaged by the installer. But at the end of the day I have a keypad lock that doesn’t work and I now still have to use a key to get into my home. The whole purpose of buying this lock was to be keyless! And now I have to use a key again and I’m out $100.00 for the installation. Make that make sense!!

Solid, works great. Very happy with the product. It was easy to install and simple to change the battery. Only thing causing my less than perfect rating is that the handles 'snap' on and have a little 'wiggle room' to them. Our old handles screwed into place and had no play in them. Not a security issue, just less than perfect when you pull the handle. Also, you can only store two codes.

Easy to install but you will need a small Phillips head screwdriver as one is not provided. Looks good against darker colored doors. You will need to swap the battery every 6 to 9 months to make sure you don't lose power. One it blinks red its to late as there is no way to jumpstart to get around a code, so keep the key, of which there is only one so you may want to make a backup. And as a last reminder keep the instructions in a safe place as the codes are on them and you don't to lose that unlesss you want to take the lock apart as the codes are on the inside of the lock itself. Also the instructions to create or delete codes are on that paper, so again put it in a safe place.
I just installed this today, so I can't speak for battery life or longevity as of yet. I did use the included battery, which is just a regular 9V Duracell, so when that needs replacing I'll install a lithium one instead. The install was quite straight-forward and, aside from a few extra steps, was not really any more difficult than installing a standard door knob. Instructions were simple, though a few of the pictures left me momentarily confused. The lock is easy to program and use and all the features worked as expected. The programmable codes are limited to four digits, which was not an issue for me. It seems pretty well constructed. This door knob was installed on our garage door to stop my dad, who has fairly advanced dementia, from sneaking out of the house. ... MoreI just installed this today, so I can't speak for battery life or longevity as of yet. This door knob was installed on our garage door to stop my dad, who has fairly advanced dementia, from sneaking out of the house. Since people need to be able to use that door from either side, using something like a door guardian lock would not have worked. I installed the door knob backwards, so the keypad is on the inside of the house and it will keep him from entering the garage unsupervised. This method wouldn't work on an exterior door (it only locks on one side), but works fantastic for keeping him out of the garage while still making it easy to bring groceries and such into the house. The auto lock is timed just right and seems to work well. I had no issues disabling the lock while testing everything either. I'd definitely recommend this if you're trying to keep someone with dementia from passing through an interior door.
If you dont need the keypad, this lock looks and works just fine... but the keypad is the whole reason I purchased. I recently divorced and wanted a more secure deadbolt lock from my garage to the inside of the house, but only had one hole to work with for the lock and knob. As a bonus, I thought the keypad would allow my kids to come and go from the house without having to carry an actual key, as they can open the garage door with a code. However, after several months after installation (six or seven), the keypad push buttons are falling out because they are not secured well in their tiny opening and the black numbers run off after a little use. We have located some of the number pads when sweeping the floor of the garage, but Im afraid to superglue them in, as Im afraid that might affect the internal function of the buttons and make them unable to lock. We changed our code to use different buttons, with the same disappointing result. I guess I will search for a touchpad that doesnt have rubber buttons for numbers. There has to be a superior product out there.
After viewing an online video on why this keypad doorknob is highly recommended I decided to replace the old doorknob assembly on my front door with this keypad model. The instructions were fairly straightforward but there was a bit of a challenge on getting the wiring tucked away just right to prevent the keypad case from "crimping" any of the wires. But overall it was an easy assembly process. The keypad doorknob does come with one key (for use if the battery should fail) so I got a Lowe's associate to make another key and then match that to the deadbolt I bought. Now one key opens both if needed. The one feature that sold me on this model vs. a different manufacturer is when you unlock the door to enter your home, four seconds later it automatically locks again! ... MoreAfter viewing an online video on why this keypad doorknob is highly recommended I decided to replace the old doorknob assembly on my front door with this keypad model. You don't have to do anything as the electronics does that for you. I definitely recommend this model.
I purchased these locks for a shared family cabin. I have a similar lock on another vacation rental property. These locks are so convenient and well designed. It was important for me to have something with a key backup in case the battery dies in the sometimes long spans of time when no one is at the house. I also didn't want anything dependent on wi-fi due to the remote nature of the home. I love that the lock can be disengaged by the flip of the lever to make reentry easy. I am curious, though, to see how the finish holds up since the home is near salt water.
This lock is really good and easy to install. I like the way is has the helping screw. It is also easy to program and I like the way you can switch the handle to either side. I bought one for my daughter a couple years ago and it’s doing great! I bought another two today. Same thing easy to install and easy programming.
We had one of these locks at our old house and it worked beautifully for years. so when we moved we bought another one for the new house. It wouldn't accept the code, and we were repeatedly locked out and could not get in the house so we returned it. We bought a second version thinking the first one was just a fluke and it did not work either. We returned it, still determined, and bought a third lock just like this one because we had had such good experiences before. The third one worked for about a week and now continuously locks us out of the house even when it is switched to the open position. I am about to take the third one back and try a fourth one because I am tenacious. Hopefully this one will work otherwise we're going to have to just switch brands.
