An update of the HD-201

Evidently Sennheiser has replaced the venerable HD-201 with this HD-206. The HD-201 was one of the few inexpensive headphones available with a reasonably flat frequency response that would not hype any particular frequency range. The HD-201 didn't sound exciting, but it did give you a reasonably accurate version of what a recording was intended to sound like. A very useful tool for people creating sound products. The HD-206 is similar, with improved imaging and detail. However Sennheiser couldn't resist also hyping the bass a little. That may make it more popular with casual listeners. But it is no longer quite as neutral as the HD-201. However it is still a bargain if you are seeking an un-hyped sound.

There is a good level of dynamics, following live drum mixes very well without ringing or splashy sibilance on the crash cymbals. The bass is dry and solid, again with very good dynamics and no artificial colouring or boominess. Good entry level to hi fi headphones

Sennheiser HD 206 stereo headphones are an entry level of the Sennheiser range of headphones. I bought these to use with the TV and they are perfect for that purpose. they come with a long 3 metre cable, allowing the listener to sit far enough away from the TV to be able to watch the programm comfortably. As you would expect from Sennheiser the sound quality is pretty good, the top end, middle range are fine, however, I have found that the bass and lower tones are a little overpowering on some TV programmes, although, I appreciate that may be down to programm maker or transmitter, however when there was a program that incorporated, big pipe organ music, then they behaved as I would expect from a Sennheiser product. The build quality is good and they are comfortable over extended periods of time, having large over the ear cups and being very light weight. The only downside that I can see at the moment is, the cable that connects the headphones to the TV/Amplifier and the foam cushions on the cups looks like they are fixed, unlike on more expensive Sennheiser headphones and they are the components that usually wear out first and are usually available for replacement from Sennheiser. I guess because these are an entry level, then to save production costs, this model has no replaceable parts, however, I would expect them to last years.

Good sound on a budget, light, with some retro charm
24 November 2021

Sound is reproduced well, although I have to put the volume a little higher than I'm used to, these work great for monitoring and listening for leisure (if you manage your cable length properly). This is not a criticism of the product, but if you try to plug this into a phone with a case, it might not fit since it's wider than most jacks at the base, you can solve this problem by taking the phone case off. Great price for the product quality, arrived without damage.

Good value in price range.
12 January 2022

For the price (and price range) they're pretty decent headphones. Build quality is good and the pivot point around which the ears twist doesn't seem as flimsy as it it with other brands (Roland, Samson). Ears have enough rotation to conform to head but little else though. Padding adequately comfortable for long sessions. Only niggle is the cording being to both sides rather than one or the other which gets caught more often than not. Sound seems to be a bit flatter and more even than Roland's RH5's by comparison, less bass, but clear.

Honest.

The headphones sound different on PCs vs Mac. The sound does matter in combination with these. Not much bass response at all. It's a good name brand that should have a better product, with heavier magnets perhaps, that I'm sure would last but not willing to compromise on lack of low end.

Natural wide frequency response and light and comfortable wired headphones.
1 June 2022

The Sennheiser HD 206 headphones give a natural sound and are light weight and comfortable to wear. It's important to note that they produce a natural even sound making them ideal for studio mixing and production use. They do not give over emphasis to bass frequencies like many headphones aimed at portable users - notably many wireless models. This makes them suitable for audiophiles who like a natural wide frequency response. They are not expensive either so affordable to most people . They have a good length cable as well as being supplied with a 3.5 mm to quarter inch plug adaptor for plugging into studio mixers and some higher end home sound systems.

Perfect for amateur sound mixing/engineering.

Wanted something relatively cheap which didn't accentuate bass or treble too much. These were recommended and fitted the bill perfectly. Having mixed several tracks in an audio program I just needed to hear the balance of each track without exaggeration. So with their closed cups and a 3m cord plugged into laptop, PC or mobile I am very pleased with the results prior to uploading to SoundCloud. Plus, for general listening, they're easily better than my expensive and extensive loudspeaker system. Comfy. Clear. Improving daily too as usage benefits the sound quality.

Quality headphones on a budget

Sennheiser's workhorse budget headphones, found in studios everywhere. And that's the point. These cans are more than adequate for general listening, punchy bass, good mids and treble but they are not audiophile headphones, their natural habitats are recording stuios, radio stations etc. They are designed to give a flat, accurate sound so tracks, music, voice, sound effects et al can be mixed accurately without any frequencies being falsely enhanced. They also come with a 3 metre lead which may be a bit long for domestic use but perfect if being used while you are sitting behind a drum kit! The cans are light, just the right amount of adjustment, they are comfortable and fit snuggly over the ear. They are ideal if you have look after the pennies but want performance at a budget. They are not the best headphones in the world but you can easily spend 30 on an inferior product to the HD 206.

good Product and music output under the budget
4 November 2020

I am having 3 headphones currently , SonyMDR XB450AP, Sennheiser HD 206 and JBL T460BT. Out of which Sennheiser is calmer relatively. I love hearing old songs in Sennhesier headphones. They seem more original in output with relatively less bass and hence soothing to hear and they come at a price atleast 1000 cheaper than the other two. If you need more bass you can hit the volume buttons. Very comfortable on ears and good noice cancelling too. I will recommend this if you are on budget and looking for ahead phones. The wire is probably 3 metres its useful but also ....... , completely depends on how you handle it.
