I previously used the Canon kit lenses 18 - 55 mm and 55 - 250 mm. I didn't want to carry two lenses so I decided to pick up this Sigma as a replacement. While I lost 50 mm at the top side of the range, the Sigma 18 - 200 mm lens makes up for it when I use the Canon 90D with the higher MP count over the SL1. The quality of image difference between the kit lenses and this one is remarkable. The IS on the lens is significant. Between the camera and lens IS you can get clear photos even in low light,The only thing that is a downside is that the auto focus is really noisy when filming video. The camera can pick up all of the servo noise. In manual focus there isn't any issue. Lock off your shot and you should be fine.

You will be able to photograph that far away tower with the diminutive clock as well as photograph the exact time in that clock, all from the same spot. And best of all, the lens is so little, you can take it anywhere anytime without having to carry several lenses. The 18-200mm lens is the best super-zoom you can find. Famous are the 28-70 and 70-200 but, even with those you will have to exchange lens every time you change subjects from close to far. Not the case with the 18-200, this is a zoom that covers everything, period. With this lens you cover wide-angle to telephoto, dont need any other lens when you go out with your camera, save space and weight, but more important no need for changing lenses. With 18mm you can take the entire family in a room; with 200mm you can capture a bird that you almost cant see. Exchanging lenses in the middle of shooting? By the time you find another lens, put it in the camera and start focusing again is too late. This is also a Macro, it allows you to capture very small subjects. You can do it all with these lens and it is small, beautiful and easy to take everywhere. Not to mention Image Stabilizer, you dont need a tripod.

After using such lens with my Sony A37 I wanted the same for my DX Nikons. Of course it's not one of "Sigma Art" series it would cost 1000 EUR more, wouldn't it? but it gives very good picture, especially considering its affordable price. Anyone still using attached "kit lens" can be surprised, how really capable his/her camera is simply by such "lens upgrade". Despite offering long range zoom its distortion is negligible images are sharp, vivid and not deformed. Also very useful for macro shots. Nice, handy and affordable allrounder IMHO (mainly for use in daylight conditions! See its aperture values...) worthy of recommendation.

The wide angle and 200mm zoom make for a all in one lens for travel in good light, I got this lens for a intern for the newspaper and it does everything they need to shoot quality pictures ie parades, fairs, town festivals etc... it does out preform the canon 24-105 f4 L series lens at well under l less then half the cost again the wide angle to 200mm zoom gives it more versatility. Great lens! Great picture quality! I will be getting one to keep in my vehicle full time because of its versatility... sigma did good with this lens!!
The revolutionary 1970s Sigma 18mm wide-angle for 35mm film cameras stayed in my bag 24/7, even when I was shooting with Hasselblads back then. I was digital for almost 20 years before retiring. For at least seven years the Sigma 18-125mm zoom was my go-to APS lens in the studio and for weddings. Versatility is a lens' first job, it's got to be ready when you are. The Sigma 18-200mm auto-focus is so quiet the first time I used it I honestly thought the camera's On-Off switch and/or the lens' MF-Auto switch were not turned on. Wow. This lens is sharper and focuses closer than I expected, it's lightweight, short, and comfortable to use. It won't tire you out on vacation or just doing a walk-about looking for decisive moments. Before I retired ten years ago as a professional photographer my main lens was a Sigma 18-135mm lens. Portraits, weddings, including the studio. I began with Hasselblad in the 70s and my film days ended with the Mamiya 6 before going all digital two decades ago. You are more likely to capture a wider range of subject situations with a zoom. My current Sigma 18-200 is a very decent all-around lens. Period. Especially when using public transportation. Determine your sharpest f/stop settings. Use them! Keep the lens retracted to protect the helical mount and you are good to go. Don?t forget a UV filter to protect the front lens element. This lens in my experience is a good deal for the optics and for the price.
I wanted a lens that has a zoom range of at least 18-250 mm. I called B&H Photo about such a lens and they recommended the Sigma 18-250 DC MACRO OS Lens. I decided to give it a try. When the lens arrived I used it to take pictures almost immediately. It arrived on a Thursday and I used it the following Sunday. I found the lens to be very versatile and very good at taking wide angle pictures when set to 18 mm and even just as good at the maximum 250 mm. Even when I attached my 2.5X tele-convertor to this lens making it have a zoom range of up to 625 mm it, worked fine. Of course this caused the lens to set the F-stop about two F-stops lower. But the camera adjusted for this perfectly fine by using a slower shutter speed. When I purchased this lens, I also purchased a ... MoreI wanted a lens that has a zoom range of at least 18-250 mm. Even when I attached my 2.5X tele-convertor to this lens making it have a zoom range of up to 625 mm it, worked fine. Of course this caused the lens to set the F-stop about two F-stops lower. But the camera adjusted for this perfectly fine by using a slower shutter speed. When I purchased this lens, I also purchased a UV filter for the lens. The lens has a filter thread of 62 mm. I purchased an adaptor to be able to use my 55 mm filters with this lens as well. Now before you say anything, I knew that this may cause a slight vignette on the corners of photos when the lens was set to 18 mm. When I tried using my 55 mm filters on this lens I found that there was an extremely small cropping of the corners. However, if I moved the zoom to approximately 20 mm there was no vignette at all on the picture. If only the adaptor and a single 55 mm filter was on the lens I could even use it at 19 mm depending on the thickness of the filter used. The 1 mm difference between 18 mm and 19 mm is not that much as far as the actual picture is concerned. Even from 18 mm to 20 mm is not that much either. Another thing I can do with this 62 to 55 mm filter adaptor is to use my 55 mm screw on lens cap on the lens. When I have the 62 mm UV filter on the lens and want to take pictures only with the 62 mm UV filter, I can unscrew the adaptor as if was part of the lens cap and it works just fine with absolutely no vignette on the picture. The only drawbacks to this lens are that when you put the lens on a tripod and try to use the zoom settings at much more than about 24 mm the lens must be perfectly straight with the ground or the zoom will tend to creep back a few mm when you let it go. This can be remedied by putting a wide rubber band on the lens near the point where the zoom wheel and the front of the lens meet being careful not to let it get on the focusing ring. This will stop the lens from creeping back to a wider zoom setting. This lens also has a stabilizer on it. With the stabilizer turned on the lens uses a lot more power and the camera battery will not last as long. Those are the only two drawbacks I can see with this lens. As for recommending it, I would certainly recommend it as a good lens to replace several other lenses I have in my camera bag. These other lenses are an 18-55 mm, 28-80 mm and a 56 to 144 mm. The 18-250 mm Sigma lens makes it possible to take the same pictures with only one lens and even more. I also have another zoom lens that can be set to 160-480 mm as well as one that can be set up to 12300 mm, yes you saw that correct 12300 mm. However, this lens is extremely heavy and even a tripod is not suitable for this lens. You must place the camera on a table and use either the timer or a remote control to take the picture. Any movement, no matter how slight and the picture will be blurred. Review by: Albert S. Lobel, North Las Vegas Nevada
After a friend asked for suggestions for his girlfriend's crop sensor body, stating that she liked to take both wide-angle and zoomed-in shots, I started doing some research on superzooms, and in the process I tried a couple myself. I first tried the Canon 18-135 USM. It was okay, nothing mind blowing. Then I picked up this Sigma, in order to do a comparison. I've been very impressed with it. I did a side-by-side with the Canon and Sigma at equivalent focal lengths, and I couldn't discern an image quality difference between the two. Not only that, but the Sigma is smaller, lighter, cheaper, has an extended focal length range, *and* it comes with a hood. A no-brainer in my opinion. I needed a fairly compact outfit to photograph on road construction projects. I put this on a Nikon D7200 and I am quite well pleased with the result. Most of the time I shoot a Nikon D850 with a 70-200 f2.8 which weighs a ton compared to this combination. While not quite up there with my high-end Nikon lenses, the lens is very responsive and gives me very good quality for the work I am doing. The images are sharp, the focus is crisp. I'm usually stopped down in the middle range and the photographs appear to be very clear edge to edge. It is good value for a lens that give me great range for many difficult situations. I recommend it.
I spent a lot of time comparing this lens with others as a potential replacement for the Nikon 18-55 kit lens and the Tamron 18-200mm I had been using as a Hiking Lens. I gave the Tamron away and decided on the Sigma following detailed study of DPreview.com great lens sharpness and performance graphs. I was not disappointed. My first outing, the morning following the lenses prompt arrival from B&H, I was out shooting some rehabber's owls and the results just blew me away, nice bokeh and gorgeous sharpness. The barrel rotates the 'other' way from all my other lenses, but I'll get used to that. The body feels a bit plastic, but if that's what we pay for lightness and affordability... I'll pay it. It also fits onto the camera (a Nikon D5100) in a bit of a tight manner. ...
