I previously used the Canon kit lenses 18 - 55 mm and 55 - 250 mm. I didn't want to carry two lenses so I decided to pick up this Sigma as a replacement. While I lost 50 mm at the top side of the range, the Sigma 18 - 200 mm lens makes up for it when I use the Canon 90D with the higher MP count over the SL1. The quality of image difference between the kit lenses and this one is remarkable.The IS on the lens is significant. Between the camera and lens IS you can get clear photos even in low light,The only thing that is a downside is that the auto focus is really noisy when filming video. The camera can pick up all of the servo noise. In manual focus there isn't any issue. Lock off your shot and you should be fine.

After using such lens with my Sony A37 I wanted the same for my DX Nikons. Of course it's not one of "Sigma Art" series it would cost 1000 EUR more, wouldn't it? but it gives very good picture, especially considering its affordable price. Anyone still using attached "kit lens" can be surprised, how really capable his/her camera is simply by such "lens upgrade". Despite offering long range zoom its distortion is negligible images are sharp, vivid and not deformed. Also very useful for macro shots. Nice, handy and affordable allrounder IMHO (mainly for use in daylight conditions! See its aperture values...) worthy of recommendation.

The lense seems to perform well. I do find that the resulting image appears a bit over exposed which I believe is personal taste and corrected by a simple adjustment on my 7d MII. The supplied lens hood would not mate on the lens regardless of the number of times I tried. The result being that the hood was loose and endanger of falling off, which is what happened while photographing in the field.I personally like Sigma lenses, this is my third and I have sold all of my remain Canon lenses. On the plus side, IQ is extremely good especially in low light situations where the shoot does not permit strobe or other electronic lighting. I believe the IQ is better than other lenses I have tried. The OS is a strong contender in the DSLR category, the enabled OS seems to be ... MoreThe lense seems to perform well. Before I retired ten years ago as a professional photographer my main lens was a Sigma 18-135mm lens. Portraits, weddings, including the studio. I began with Hasselblad in the 70s and my film days ended with the Mamiya 6 before going all digital two decades ago. You are more likely to capture a wider range of subject situations with a zoom. My current Sigma 18-200 is a very decent all-around lens. Period. Especially when using public transportation. Determine your sharpest f/stop settings. Use them! Keep the lens retracted to protect the helical mount and you are good to go. Don?t forget a UV filter to protect the front lens element. This lens in my experience is a good deal for the optics and for the price.

This is such the case with this lens.For Pentax cameras, weather sealing would have been a welcome feature considering Pentax leads the industry in this category. However, it's only a deal breaker if your priority is to have sealing. Otherwise, this lens is absolutely a winner for its category.If you are in the market for multi-purpose wide range zoom lens in the Pentax mount, this is your best option as of the date of this review. Tamron doesn't even make a new generation super zoom for Pentax, and Pentax doesn't have a rebranded version of Tamron's offerings in this category as they have historically offered.From wide angle to tele, and even for close ups- this lens delivers excellent images. It's small and light, well built, fast and accurate to focus, super quiet, has excellent optical stabilization, and it's low price makes it a huge bang for the buck. Perceived value couldn't be better.Further, there is no zoom creep even though Sigma has included a zoom lock switch. The HSM focus ring moves on the outside, but it does at least include a rudimentary focus distance scale.It's compatible on Pentax cameras that feature the KAF3 mount onward (so make sure your model has that mount). Any of the older KAF mount cameras will not give you full functionality with the lens, but it can still be used to some degree on every Pentax DSLR.My only minor gripes are the lack of weather sealing and, the f/6.3 maximum aperture at 200mm, yet these are by no means deal breakers- at least for me.With Pentax continuing support and development of DSLRS (K3 Mk III for example), there's reason to believe that fact alone will help to support purchases of these lenses in the future. Therefore, Sigma should highly consider making a new version of this lens to include sealing of some sort (preferably throughout the lens) ,and at least an f/5.6 max aperture at 200mm. Many would gladly pay the resulting higher premium for these improvements, including myself.Pentax and Tamron should resolve business tidings so as to offer a either a rebadged Pentax version or a Tamron version of a lens in this class. This would give more choice to Pentax enthusiasts and help to bolster the brand. Pentax are now one of the last manufacturers to support DSLR development and will continue too in the future.Pentax/Tamron/Sigma, please consider offering more lenses in the Pentax mount in the future.
I already owned a Nikon 18-300 mm zoom lens which is pretty good. It's a bit soft at 300mm though and using it at 200mm gives similar results when enlarged in photoshop. I thought I'd buy a Sigma 18-200mm in the hope that it might be sharper at the top end. The Sigma pros are that it's significantly smaller and lighter than the Nikon. The lens quality is good and it would make a good all purpose standard lens. The Nikon pros are that it's slightly sharper than the Sigma, and it also makes a good all purpose lens. I'm afraid we just have to accept that with such a wide ranging zoom we're not going to get pin sharp images at the top end. I haven't yet decided which lens I will use as my standard - we shall see!

In the intervening years Sigma has made many improvements and added FOUR super low dispersion glass and THREE aspherical elements along with macro capabilities to this updated version that ultimately make a discernible difference in terms of sharpness, chromatic aberrations and distortion. I could not see any CA.Sharpness was high at center and at the edges shooting wide open at 200mm, and the Macro focus bolstered by the Optical Stabilization of this lens is impressive to say the least.Is it a perfect lens? No. While it is impressive in terms of sharpness and color rendition the image stabilization (OS) in the lens is nowhere near the IBIS (in-body-image-stabilization) of an Olympus E-M1. To make the most it it requires a body with stabilization as well to work in tandem. I used it on a Sigma SD Quattro that has no IBIS, and while the OS in the lens is a big help you will not get 4 stops of stabilization (or more) that is now typical with so many other systems where lens OS is aided by IBIS.Beautiful, very sharp, image stabilized, and well balanced, the Sigma 18-200mm had a couple of deficiencies that made it completely unusable for wildlife shooting, which was my intended use. Its shortcomings: very slow AF, and in combination with the Sigma SD Quattro it added up to nearly a 2.5 second delay from AF acquisition to actual capture. The narrow AF/manual focus ring at the snout of the lens actually rotates under your fingers during AF travel, IN AF MODE, which means you have to adjust your grip on the camera to avoid disrupting its auto-focus function. Manual focus is difficult and awkward due to the short Macro-to-infinity travel distance of the ring. Macro to infinity ring movement is just One-and-one quarter inches (8cm) in length.Another issue is the bokeh, the out of focus areas in the background lack smoothness, and are very busy and distracting, especially in the highlights.Overall the lens is well built, and compact. Although it is somewhat light in terms of weight, one can assume a good deal of plastics rather than metal (or brass) has been used, but this seems to be standard in terms of production costs and savings. Image quality was excellent.If AF had been very fast I would been temped to keep it because of its excellent image quality.
I needed a fairly compact outfit to photograph on road construction projects. I put this on a Nikon D7200 and I am quite well pleased with the result. Most of the time I shoot a Nikon D850 with a 70-200 f2.8 which weighs a ton compared to this combination. While not quite up there with my high-end Nikon lenses, the lens is very responsive and gives me very good quality for the work I am doing. The images are sharp, the focus is crisp. I'm usually stopped down in the middle range and the photographs appear to be very clear edge to edge. It is good value for a lens that give me great range for many difficult situations. I recommend it.
