TLDR: Decent value for money and amazing aesthetic but if you're looking for better performance the same budget can go further elsewhere.I have a LOT to say about this. I've always loved coffee and am not an expert for reference, but I hope my experience below helps :)- Value: The price is good for what you get however there's a lot of details SMEG have overlooked (drip tray storage not great, the drip tray rattles whenever you make espresso and the vibrations can cause normal cups to move easily when brewing on their own to name a few)- Colour: The aesthetic/colour I love and stand by this. Minor added bonus is the outer housing and some other parts are plastic where appropriate, making this slightly lighter than other high-end machines that can be all metal ... MoreTLDR: Decent value for money and amazing aesthetic but if you're looking for better performance the same budget can go further elsewhere.I have a LOT to say about this. Minor added bonus is the outer housing and some other parts are plastic where appropriate, making this slightly lighter than other high-end machines that can be all metal and even heavier- Custom Settings: There's custom settings you can adjust easily including: testing and pre-setting a water hardness mode to reduce how often you need to descale, brew temp adjustments (although anything less than 'hot' is ice cold), auto-turn off timing modes and a few more which are great. However, these only go so far being the tradeoff of easy to adjust, and other machines at a similar price point offer better customisation for less money- Brewing: I don't own a pressure gage tester but have noticed this to be inconsistent even when keeping my dosing volume and grind size consistent (after dialing this in), with a lot of over extraction. Usually it brews around 11-13 bars which is a fair bit higher than the typical 9 bars you'd want (there's also no numerical markers on the dial itself)- Grinder: Generally I'm pleased with the grinder but there isn't much information on what type and size of burrs it uses which will be an issue when they need to be replaced in several years.- Grind Settings: There's no factory setting to re-adjust how many grams of coffee you grind for a 'single' or 'double' espresso and this has been an issue as it grinds far too much when using the double button (luckily if you press and hold the single button it will grind a custom amount until you press it again to stop it)- Heating Time: I'd strongly reccomend getting a smart plug to turn the machine on by itself at certain times as you'll need to allow at least 10-15 minutes for it to heat up, even on the hottest setting, to reach normal espresso brewing temperature- Portafilter / Baskets: The portafilter baskets aren't the best, I'd stick to using the dual wall baskets and investing in better baskets if you can. A bottomless portafilter option would've been great as the dual spout isn't easy to clean especially if you're using regularly. I regularly use a puck screen too and not had a single issue here so if you're curious about this you should be fine. Even without a puck screen, no matter how you tamp or adjust your grind size, the doubleshot basket can't fit the standard 18g of ground coffee which is very strange (believe me I have tried everything) maximum 17g at best.- Credit where this is due, they've improved VS previous models to ensure there's no plastic components inside the portafilter handle (this is 58.5mm diameter) and the handle has a better shape and matte finish which is MUCH better.- Steam wand is good and I like the functionality of this (push lever back for hot water, pull forward for two steam settings: medium & high intensity) although the medium setting never seems to get warm enoughNote: I have not done any descaling yetOverviewFor the money, I'd expect almost all of these issues not to exist so beware that a large part of what you pay for goes towards the brand name but with that said the machine does make good espresso. If you're really into your coffee it might not be the right choice for you if you want a performance-focused machine.SMEG have definetly made some improvements over time and I love the aesthetic and colour so top marks here. If you're really keen on the look, aren't too bothered about the performance side of things and want quality, easy espresso I'd definetely reccomend.

We really wanted to like this machine, but it has a design flaw that makes brewing consistent espresso much more difficult than it should be. Issue is the last bullet point but here’s our full review.Pros:-The dual thermoblock is something we were looking for in a new machine. The steam does indeed heat up extremely fast. But for those having trouble finding this answer like I did at first—there is only one pump so espresso and steam still has to be done separately.-The design is beautiful! And a lot of functions are well thought out-It did make really nice espresso but only after some significant adjustment to dosing, grind, etc. not an issue—I just too often see reviews for “semi automatic” machines expecting them to make great espresso out of the box. This is a manual machine and it needs treated as such!Cons:-it is an 58mm portafilter, which we expected to have lots of aftermarket options for. But it is a three ear group head. Super common for 54mm breville style filters. But we could not find an aftermarket option for this. I wish they just had a standard E61 group head. Not a dealbreaker but a disappointment.-the dealbreaker for us ended up being the design for grind adjustment. It’s a part of the funnel system. I expected you could twist the funnel to adjust grind but there would be another way to take off the funnel. I was wrong. You have to twist the funnel all the way through its coarsest setting to pull the funnel off. Meaning if you want to switch beans before you’ve run out, you are always moving the grind burrs to empty the basket, grinder, and purge the grinder. Other machines I could easily find a setting for our regular beans and our decaf beans. We noticed almost immediately that once you switch, the reference point for the grinder seems to be thrown off. Even with purging and an additional grind to help remove these movement variables, and EVEN WITHOUT SWITCHING BEAN TYPES, the numbers on the grinder end up being meaningless for predictable grind size. Essentially throwing off your recipe every time you need to remove the funnel. Obviously you could mitigate this by always using the same beans and just reloading from the top. Or if you’re a person who weighs pre ground beans and completely purges the grinder for every dose and every shot. In my opinion it is a design flaw making a fine precise adjustment tied to a dynamic system on the machine. This sort of thing was never an issue on our breville machine since the funnel removal and grind settings are not tied to each other. As a conclusion, I think Smeg went a little overboard trying to simplify the design on this machine. Only four buttons and an analog pressure display—fine. Removing the hot water spout to make it come through the steam wand—kind of weird and slow but also easy to live with. Tying the grind setting to the funnel removal for the sake of having one less dial/adjustment/etc? Fatal choice for us. A little too much form over function in this case. At this price point—Breville and Delonghi both make a better machine IMO.

Coffee grinder container is clear so easy to see when beans are low. Also further user details are available on line which is useful. The steam wand makes perfect latte coffee , care has to be taken placing the wand in jug correctly otherwise milk can froth over jug. Water heats quickly and milk is hot. The water container is at the back of the machine, easily fillable and large. Descaling is efficient it is advisable to clean milk off wand quickly after use with a damp cloth, harder to remove when cold. The machine makes whatever type of coffee you require expresso, cappuccino and latte to a high standard. Popular with family and friends ,aroma of coffee beans makes every cup special and gives the equivalent to a high standard coffee in your own home. Added bonus it gives the kitchen a wow factor!

This coffee machine makes an amazing coffee, "coffee shop style".We liked the style of this coffee machine so much, we ended up buying a matching kettle and we are looking to buy a matching toaster to ensure we have a full setThis coffee machine is compact and therefore it doesn't look like it is taking lots of space in a small kitchen, like mine.I love we can choose the strength of the coffee, by selecting the level of grinding the beans and make a strong coffee in the morning and one that's a bit weaker in the afternoon. I found the original SMEG Videos to be extremely useful in terms of learning how to set up my machine (which took no time) and learning how to make different types of coffees. My preferred coffee choice is Americano, my partner enjoys espresso but on occasions we also enjoy a Cappuccino or a Latte. This provides an opportunity to play and create great coffees and at the same have lots of fun while doing so.Individual parts are heavy and look like great quality. i have been using this coffee machine several times a day for the past 3 weeks. Cleaning and maintenance is easy and doesn't take too much time. The are 2 points, which in my opinion could improve. The machine is really loud, when grinding coffee and making coffee. In my case, this isn't much on an issue as my kitchen is on a different level to the bedrooms but I think this could be an issue for those who share a flat and whose kitchen is close to the bedrooms. The other negative is that it is quite "messy". The messiness occurs when I am emptying the portafilter. Here again, it is not an issue for my kitchen as I found a space next to the sink and I can tidy up the mess and wipe down the surfaces as soon as I made my coffee but the fact I need to do it after making every coffee bothers me a bit. I like my kitchen spotlessly clean so I don't think this will be an issue to everyone :)Overall great experience and highly recommended to coffee drinkers.
I have really enjoyed using this coffee machine. Having had several coffee machines varying in quality over the years this is the first that has both the look and the performance. So starting off with setting up, the instructions are fairly easy to follow with both diagrams and word versions. I like the way that it comes with the water testing strip allowing you to enhance your coffee making experience. The bean dispenser and water container are both large, meaning you don't have to regularly faff around filling them up. The design is simple but also very clever with a place for everything. The drip tray cleverly has a hiding place for storage of all the spare filters and cleaning parts. The drip tray cleverly has a hiding place for storage of all the spare filters and cleaning parts. On top of the machine is a dedicated slot for the tamper.Making the first coffee is simple, the fineness of the grind can be easily altered with a smooth twist. This means that you can change depending on the beans and your personal preferences. To make a simple Americano style coffee water can be added using the steam wand. Although not as simple as some it is still simple enough. Where this machine comes into its own is by adding milk. I have never found it so easy to make super smooth milk with a great microfoam. It has been a while since I have played with Latte art but feel this may become my new hobby! There are a few things that I would improve. First you are unable to switch bean hoppers before empty which means if you wanted to switch for example to decaf it is not a smooth process. The other is that the machine includes items such as the milk jug which are not mentioned in the description. The SMEG website has a much fuller description of the machine.Highly recommend.
I was a bit sceptical ordering this coffee machine because of other reviews but decided to watch a few videos of others reviewing the machine and they convinced me it was a good machine. I'm so glad I ordered it as I've been using it every day since purchasing and it's been a great purchase! I was a bit worried having the SMEG name, it would be more style over substance but it's actually a great coffee machine. Just a massive plus it looks absolutely beautiful in the kitchen. It's really easy to use especially if you follow the SMEG YouTube videos on how to use. I still need to master the art of making milky coffees with the milk frother, but making an Espresso or Americano is super easy! I have been a satisfied capsule-machine user for over ten years, so was interested to try this machine but not necessarily looking to swap over. However, I've been very impressed with this product and haven't used my old machine since receiving this one. I was pleased to see it arrived with a milk jug as I didn't see that in the product description.Having only used a capsule machine, I found this very easy to set up and use - instructions are included but I preferred to view the Smeg video on YouTube. You can select single or double espresso, it grinds the beans into the coffee holder (I haven't had the issue other reviews noted about mess) and then you move the holder over to dispense the water for the shot. I found the espresso water temperature hot enough in under a minute, but have mainly been drinking lattes with the steamed milk. The steaming wand is highly effective and makes for much better lattes than my previous machine. It took me a couple of tries to get the right consistency and temperature (you tell this by feeling the temperature from the outside of the metal jug) but it became easy quite quickly.Major change from a capsule machine is a few extra steps to clean it - dispose of the grounds, clean the coffee holder, jug and wipe down the milk wand - all straight forward, just takes a little longer than I'm used to. The drip tray is also simple to pull out and rinse. I haven't yet descaled it.Feedback from guests is unanimous that the coffees are delicious (and improved from my previous machine, which remains in the cupboard). I would personally recommend it for the great taste of the coffee alongside the bonus of how nice it looks. An investment, but worth it for coffee lovers.
We had been thinking of getting an espresso machine for a while now, and decided to once we saw this new Smeg machine. We are so glad we got it!! It ticks all the boxes. :)It is a very beautiful espresso machine and looks AMAZING in our space in the cream colour. We are also impressed with the little touches of this machine as well, the accessories feel high quality, and the hidden storage compartment under the drip tray to store the extra filters & brush is a nice bonus. We’ve only ever had a Nespresso at home, so we’re complete manual espresso newbies. However this machine turned out to be very user friendly and we got the hang of it in no time. However this machine turned out to be very user friendly and we got the hang of it in no time. The pressure gauge is really helpful in determining how we need to adjust our grind and tamp to get great espresso, and the built in grinder and steam wand is a huge plus. We don't have a lot of space so having everything built in is a nice benefit. The grinder is really clean too which is a pleasant surprise - all of the grinds fall directly into the portafilter and there is never any mess on our countertop.Overall I would highly recommend this espresso machine. The machine is even more beautiful in person, and we've been enjoying delicious lattes & americanos daily since we got it 3 weeks ago. Both my husband and I are enjoying the brew process, and are enjoying trying different kinds of beans to find our favourites! It's safe to say this is our favourite purchase of the year. :)
I have many years experience with making coffee and drinking it and I find this machine very easy to use. It is well made looks good and makes great coffee. Mine is pastel blue and looks great in the kitchen, adding some colour without being too bright. The bean hopper is a good size, not being too big that beans would go stale, and you can adjust the size of grind you need and prefer. Where the grinds come out a light comes on so you can see what is happening and switches off after the grinding process has completed. There are different filter to make coffee for different tastes, this is something you have to try for yourself depending how you like your coffee. The steam wand is sturdy but easy to manoeuvre and control when steaming/frothing milk. I am experienced so had no trouble making a cappuccino, but again how you like your drink is preference and practise. The lever on the right of the machine has two options and can be used to just warm the milk and not just steam it.The drip tray is easily removable and easy to wash, there is also a handy little storage for the other filters and cleaning parts, so everything is contained within the unit and you wont lose the bits in the kitchen drawers. Also no need to worry about leaving the machine on when running off out because after a few minutes of inactivity it switches itself off. On off switch is on the left hand sideIt comes complete with the SMEG branded steam jug and tamper.I am often put off items like this because of cleaning, but this is easy to clean and all parts to be cleaned are easily accessible.Overall a great machine.
Having a weakness for retro styling lead to buying this top end product. All style and no substance does not apply here. The machine is a quality build with professional standard functionality which is fun and very satisfying to use - once you've dialled in the settings to get the type of coffee you enjoy. For me, its espresso and the machine churns out my daily 'wake me up' that equals the best that the high street can offer. Cleaning is a doddle and all the surfaces are wipe clean with a damp cloth. Topping up with water is easy as the resovoir at the back of the machine slides out and can be carried to the tap. There are a host of easy to follow videos online to help set up / descale (if you are in a hard water area - like me). Best of all though.
