I broke my first one by dropping it several times and had to replace it on the 4th drop. I use this with My SONY a6300 camera and it is hands down the best all round lens to use. I take it everywhere and shoot 90% of my pictures with it. I can not recommend this Lens enough. Fast on the count and takes a beating in the field. I have recently bought a a7iii full frame and it works so well with this lens. It gives me a great walk around ability for fast shooting. Flexibility and quality are the hallmarks of having this lens in my bag. I have included a variety of Pics shot with this lens and one of them was from the front seat of a moving bus.

My solution was this lens - a compromise between versatility and image quality for the sake of speed and efficiency.- The most obvious advantage of this lens is, of course, themassive zoom range 18-105mm (27-157mm equivalent). Excellent for anything from landscape to portraits to isolating subjects all in quick succession. Going from wide to telephoto is very smooth with both the zoom ring as well as the easy-to-control variable-speed power zoom which also makes this lens great for video. The rings are smooth, but not overly loose so you get great feel when pulling focus or zooming in videos. And on the telephoto end, having OSS helps tremendously with micro-jitters so you can hold longer exposures without breaking out the tripod. If you want to use this lens professionally, it's also perfect for gimbals with its internal zoom which doesn't throw off your balance. You can switch focal lengths without rebalancing, do zoom shots, and dolly zooms easily with thislens.Now for the not-so-great stuff. Let's start with the butter-smooth rings. Yes, they feel great and smooth and delicious, but they are both zoom/focus by wire. The zoom ring lags and sometimes continues to zoom after I've stopped rotating which can make it difficult to land on the exact focal length I'm shooting for. Itreally takes away from the 'speed and efficiency' of this lens. I much prefer the 'clunk' 'clunk' of slamming into the stops on manual zooms. You know where you are at all times within the focal range. With the by wire system, you can't develop muscle memory because you're always landing in a different spot. My gripe with the focus by wire is a little different, but a little simpler. It doesn'thave as fine of a step as I would like. As if Sony made focus pulling faster just because the lens has a deeper DOF at f/4. Nailing focus manually can be a bit difficult. No weather sealing,c'mon... Not the sharpest marshmallow in the pub, not much of a con since this is a zoom lens, but I've noticed the 16-55mmG is sharper (and it should be for being two times the price). I'll also pick on the minimum f/4. For a full-frame sensor, this is absolutely fine. For crop sensor, the camera is going to struggle before sunrise and after sunset. To be more specific, the moment blue hour starts is around the time it gets too dark for handheld shooting.Overall, I am happy with this lens as it keeps my fellow travel companions happy with me. It doesn't produce the best image quality and isn't the perfect lens, but it is absolutely the most versatile lens you will find for the price, and for this price, it's well worth it.Thanks for reading my book :)

In summary I am very happy with my purchase and I recommend it very highly. Of course with such a large lens area to protect when the lens cover is off I recommend you buy a UV filter to avoid scratching it.

It's a kit lens, so don't expect the best - however, it excels at what it's made to do, cover a long zoom range at a reasonable f-stop. Keeping a constant F/4 throughout the entire zoom range is fantastic, especially when using this lens in a live production situation. It's my primary lens for my FS5. Zoom is very smooth, when controlled either with the rocker on the lens barrel or a LANC controller. Housing is made of metal, and it feels pretty rugged - but it's not super heavy like some Canon L series lenses. The lens is tack sharp, however the only caveat is that it does have a some warping. The centre of the frame does have some barrel distortion, and there is some light vignetting in the corners. You can remove them in Lightroom, but I find the camera lens correction profile can soften that tack sharp image. I actually like the look of the photos without correction. Im an advocate of lenses having character. If youre looking to get an identical photo from any lens you use which is tack sharp with no distortion across the entire frame then this perhaps is not the lens for you. For me, thelens performs best in its f8 to f11 range. Opening it up to f4 produces some nice Bokeh but the images are noticeably softer when pixel peeping. If youre looking for a lightweight versatile lens for day to day photography then this is an incredible lens for the price. If you need something that performs in low light or something which is a little more scientific with regards to the slight barrel distortion this lens produces, then perhaps there are better but more expensive options for you. Its not a replacement for all of my expensive gear. Its not that much of a unicorn. But for a lightweight run and gun lens this gets more use than any of my other equipment. The versatility and the price point make this a 5/5 for me. If I was being harsh Id drop to a 4/5 on image quality just for to the barrel distortion, but for the price thats an acceptable hitch for me.
Initial reaction was favourable. Excellent speed and accuracy of focus and crisp image, but, and it's a massive one, there was intermittent issue causing selective vignetting to top left corner of frame only. All apertures, at any short focal length. Like something was sticking. Returned it. Not going to risk another. Disappointing qc. Will probably stick with kit lens on my a6000, and carry on lugging a DSLR for anything beyond that.

Cinema use is a completely different story but that's why I have a locking PL - E mount adapter and proper cinema lenses and Pelican cases for them all to live in. For the other 90% of the work I do, I need the camera to be ready-to-shoot. This lens does it for me. It's not perfect, but if it took a rock to the front element I'd only be moderately sad.

Took ages a while back reasearching making a decision so as to make the best choice, mistakingly choosing another more expensive Panasonic FZ1000 Bridge on route, two of them having to be returned. The beautiful smooth zooming is a delight particularly for video and with constant f4 you have no exposure re-adjustments to make during the transition.Unlike the FZ1000 lense the Sony is solidly built, you can just feel it in your hands, that builds a sense of confidence in the lens that has only grown with use. I am unlikely to buy other lenses for my Sony A6300 camera, as I don't see myself as that type of photographer, Part of the reason is the facilities on this lens like the FL of 18-105mm (157mm full frame equivalent) along with the camera make for a fantastic combination of quality that is unlikely to have them separated in our household.Moving from long 25x zooms of bridge cameras I realised the number of times you actually take such long high-zoom images eventually is rare. Hence the 8x zoom of this camera is more than adequate with the Sony A6300 camera allowing me a smooth seemless transition to another 4x digital zoom anyway (32x in total) in the rare occassions I might need it, and still leaving me a quality 6M image.One last thing I never appreciated till I got it, the lens does not extend when you zoom, which is great. Yes it stcks out a bit further than other lenses as a consequence of that charactaristic, but it is balanced in the hand and that balance remains throughout the zoom.I love the lens after the huge learning curve to get to mirrorless, will never look back now.
I've been shooting with this lens for the past 7 years. I had a Canon 5D2 at the time with 16-35 f2.8 L, 70-200 f2.8 IS, and some primes, but it was too big and heavy for a lot of occasions. I ended missing shots on occasions when I left part of my kit behind, or I didn't bring it at all. I bought this lens + Sony 10-18 f4 and A6000 with the purpose of taking it on hikes or other outdoor activities, traveling, or going out.This lens has fulfilled it's purpose very well. Combined with a wide angle lens, it covers the majority of my shooting needs. Because of the large range I've also been able to grab more shots and squeeze out a lot more different compositions during the few short minutes of sunset. The lens is sharp across the frame at f6.3-f8 throughout most of it's range. It's not as sharp as a premium lens, but I have no real complaints there. It's just ok at it's widest apertures and focal lengths.If I had to do it over with the choices available today, I'd probably pick the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 for it's superior optics but it's another 100 grams heavier and about 2x what I paid for this lens. The Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is cheap, light, small, and has excellent optics but just a bit short at 50mm without carrying an additional, longer lens.
