That put me in the hunt for a subwoofer. One reason II settled on the SVS SB-1000 was because of its small footprint.I also preferred a sealed design, which matches my acoustic suspension Heresy's. Right then I knew SVS was the right company to do business with.So I'm using the SB-1000 exclusively in a 2-channel stereo system and I'm perfectly happy with it.One feature I like are the detents on the adjustment knobs are great for tactile feedback when blindly making adjustments. And here are my only quibbles: The spiked feet are too short to make floor coupling through my low pile carpet. The SVS won the competition easily, with an audibly smoother frequency response. The KEF subwoofer has a peak at 50-60Hz that coincides with a room response peak at the same frequencies, and I wasn't able to control this with placement, so I had to choose between unnatural emphasis at those notes or weak response elsewhere. The SVS helped that a lot by avoiding a pile-on effect.I set the SVS's to LFE mode, left the phase at 0, and matched the volume to the KEFs around 30%—this subwoofer is more than powerful enough to pair with them, for all their 230 WPC active amplification. I moved the KEF's default "subwoofer on" crossover control up from 80Hz to 95Hz, which I think subjectively is better sounding; at high volumes the KEF LS50W seems to exhibit some treble glare that I think might be caused by the tweeter being located within the woofer's axis when there's high woofer excursion, and I think this ameliorates that.My test equipment was a calibrated Dayton Audio mic, the AudioTools pink noise track from Amazon Music HD via USB-input into the KEFs, and an iPad Pro with the AudioTools app.Test tracks via Amazon Music HD included "Hotel California" live, Dave Matthews Band's "So Much To Say," Rob Wasserman's "Ballad of the Runaway Horse," the "Gnomus" track from Mussorgsky's Pictures at a Exhibition as performed by Jean Victor Arthur Guillou, Jose Carreras singing Ramirez's Kyrie from Missa Criolla, and a lot of miscellaneous world, rock and pop such as Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Midnight Oil, Mickey Hart, Holly Cole (yes), Clannad, Yanni live (yes, yes, I know, but it's actually good)... the SVS's never disappointed with taut, musical, even underpinnings for all of this. The smooth responsiveness and tight grip was especially audible on songs with staccato "walking" bass notes like "Billie Jean," "Hotel California," "It's My Life," etc. I spent the better part of two days listening to alternatively the KEF subwoofer ($650) and the SVS ($500) and I'd say the SVS is worth twice the cost of the KEF. I'm keeping the SVS and returning the KEF! The SVS rounds out my KEF LS50W's perfectly and together, for $2500, they outperform systems I've auditioned at more than 10x the cost! It's a match made in heaven.

Great subwoofer! Purchased a SB-1000 to replace a huge, black subwoofer with something less conspicuous. Wanted something small and white, but without sacrificing performance. And it fits the bill perfectly! It’s SVS’ least expensive model, but it’s the only one that’s offered in white. The sound quality is great and it has plenty of output for my medium-sized room (25’x20’x8’). Fit and finish is outstanding. And setup was easy using my receiver’s audio setup function. Just two little shortcomings, the auto-on isn’t very sensitive and the power/status light’s a little bright. Neither are big deals, but if they bother you, do as I did and use a trigger for the auto-on and a little piece of cardboard with a hole punched in it to tone-down the light. Their 45-day risk-free trial, 5-year unlimited warranty, easy returns (shipping paid), Customer Bill of Rights, etc. show they’re confident in their products and that they care about their customers. And their customer service is excellent. E-mailed them with a technical question and they responded in 5 minutes, with the right answer!
I'll preface my thoughts with this explaining that this is for a secondary home theater set up in our bedroom so a sub with a small footprint was what I was looking for. The SB-1000 fit the bill. The rest of the speakers in this system are SVS Ultra Center Channel & Bookshelves. I replaced the factory power cord with one from Audioquest. For music the DTS Sampler Disc #4 with 5.1 audio is a good demo disc. The mid and low bass was punchy, tuneful, and well defined versus just hearing/feeling "boom". In the Hotel California video you can easily hear the different timbre as the drummer quickly switches from congas to timbales. In Black & White Nights the SB-1000 puts out a lot of mid and low bass energy and bass notes can easily be followed making this a good sub for both music and movies. This sampler disc also has the last battle scene from Saving Private Ryan. The sound of the German Tiger tank shook and rumbled the house. The sound of the bazooka fire and explosions from the tank firing generated a lot of satisfying LFE.Check out The Bourne Identity drone strike in Chapter 5, likewise shakes the room. The four stock rubber feet on the bottom do a good job decoupling the sub from the floor. I was going to hook up a 12-volt trigger cable but the auto shut off feature works after no signal is received so I decided not to run another cable in the room.
My new pair of speakers grew into a 5.1 theater system without quite intending it. First, I had picked up an SB-1000 subwoofer from the SVS Outlet. It was intended to (barely) fit under a desk and help two little SVS satellite speakers atop the desk. Then I picked up a pair of Ultra bookshelf speakers on sale at the Outlet, replacing the (still good) 1990s KEF speakers. So the little subwoofer joined the new speakers, mostly to good effect, except that, probably due being tucked in a corner with lots of furniture, its deep sounds were persistently locatable. It was also a small subwoofer for a big room. I emailed SVS with a measured drawing of the room. The and response was to add an identical subwoofer where I’d suggested. It was also a small subwoofer for a big room. I emailed SVS with a measured drawing of the room. The and response was to add an identical subwoofer where I’d suggested. There was an Outlet special on undamaged specimens at the Outlet, so the second SB-1000 arrived shortly after I’d found an $18 patio table for it to hide under.Setting up proved decently easy. It and two satellite speakers needed wireless connections, and the inelegant solution was to use a Best Buy wireless device to power the satellites and an SVS SoundPath Audio Adapter for the subwoofer. To minimize interference, I placed the two transmitters 8 feet apart, which seems sufficient. A 5 meter SoundPath RCA cable proved useful, in part because it’s relatively stiff, making it somewhat easier to hide behind furniture. And an RCA Y adapter. Subwoofer settings so far are what’s suggested in the Owner’s manual.Initial testing with noisy Blu-ray movies is encouraging. The lower bass now seems evenly distributed, and it’s fuller, even with the subwoofers only at 50% volume. The overall sound has a very definite movie theater quality. One other aspect of the new system: the new (also Outlet) Ultra center speaker is proving great for movie dialogue, as promised. I think that for a lot of classical music, the system can be cut back to just two or three speakers.
I went with dual SB-1000 subs. They are positioned along the same wall on the inside of each front main speaker. My room is approx. 2000 cubic feet and shaped like a rectangle. The TV and LCR speakers and subs are on one of the short walls. They are hooked up to a Yamaha RX-A2040 with Wharfedale Linton Heritage as the front mains. They replaced a single Yamaha NS-Sw300 which was powerful and compact but did have port noise occasionally, and I wanted to go with sealed subs as I listen to mostly music anyway and wanted something more punchy. The Yamaha sub went back upstairs to the smaller room.I initially set the gain on both subs to 12 o'clock position and commenced to using the YPAO calibration procedure on my receiver. The Yamaha sub went back upstairs to the smaller room.I initially set the gain on both subs to 12 o'clock position and commenced to using the YPAO calibration procedure on my receiver. The 12 o'clock position seemed to be too low as YPAO was setting the trim level for the subs up to +5 and I could barely hear them. It took awhile but I found that for my setup, the best results were moving the gain on both subs to the 2 o'clock position. (one of them I went one click past) Then when I ran the YPAO setup, the trim levels of the subs were within a .5 of the left front speaker with was 0. YPAO set the trim level of the front right speaker at +.5 I seemed to get the best blend of sound when I trimmed (on the receiver) both sub levels to the +2.5 position. This seems for me to be the best set it and forget level and offers the best balance between various musical styles and movies.Once set up, I was very impressed with the amount of bass these things produce for their size. Nice and light and easy to move yet room vibrating bass. I also bought the separate isolation feet add on. I'm so glad I went with dual subs. I'm not sure one would have cut it, but two is just right and I still feel like they could get louder if I pushed them. Overall excellent product, in my opinion.
I've had this for a little over a week and it has exceeded any expectations. While I've owned a surround system off and on for a long time, I haven't owned a Subwoofer for nearly 2 decades since college where I had a subwoofer as part of a home theater in a box kit. I was always hesitant to get a subwoofer because of the "boomy" nature of what I thought bass from a home subwoofer was supposed to sound like. But after all the reviews, and considering room logistics, budget and having small kids, this sub seemed like the ideal compromise of price, size, and power. It's paired with a Polk Audio Signature Series S30 Center Channel and 4 S15s as front and surround speakers. I have hard wood floors so I also got the isolation kit. It's paired with a Polk Audio Signature Series S30 Center Channel and 4 S15s as front and surround speakers. I have hard wood floors so I also got the isolation kit. I've only had a few opportunities to really test out different movie scenes and music, but this subwoofer is nothing less than astonishing. The "boomyness" I'd long associated with a subwoofer has been replaced by crisp, clear, and really beautiful sounding bass. Watching the T-REX scene in Jurassic Park transported me back to the first time I watched it. Additionally, it not only sounds amazing, but it also makes my other speakers sound so much better too. I didn't try the subwoofer without the isolation kit, but with the isolation kit, it's astonishing to get such powerful bass and not get any of the associated rattles. I haven't taken advantage of customer service support, but look forward to doing so to make sure I've set up everything as best as possible.
SVS has an impeccable reputation and a great company to do business with so it pains me a bit to give it 3 stars. I wanted a sealed sub for music only, no HT. The first thing I noticed was the light weight cabinet which is a negative in my book. I doubt it is anything more than a thin walled cube given the weight of the driver and amp. It vibrates a lot even though I only listen to music at moderate levels. When I listen to music I would rather hear music than the cabinet. On the positive side, the sub is punchy. Very punchy, so much so that it calls attention to itself a bit more than I would like. I imagine it is awesome for movie special effects, music not so much. Ultimately, it was not an upgrade to my old infinity sub so I returned it. Ultimately, it was not an upgrade to my old infinity sub so I returned it. A few days after I got a good deal on a PB1000 from Crutchfield. No complaints about the cabinet construction here. A better value if you can accommodate the size. However, the amp was defective, the standby switch position did not work, it stayed on all the time. It was a real pita to return due to the size and weight. The inserts were also quite inadequate, the styrofoam was broken into little pieces when I got it making the return a bigger challenge. So there you have it, not a good experience for me, I really wanted to like them but it was not mean to be.
I needed a powered subwoofer that would fit into a small location at the front of my living room. The room is approximately 20 x 12, with TV Stand on center of long wall, along with bookcases and speakers. The sub had to be tucked on floor in the space between my existing speaker and tv stand, but could not extend too far out into room. This was a hard requirement due to "she who must be obeyed"From a size perspective, the SBS-1000 fit the space requirement perfectly. With the in-home trial, I figured why not give it a shot?Hooked it up, ran Audyssey on my Denon, and gave things a whirl with some movie scenes that havesome scenes with low frequencies.1) The scene in Ready Player One where the explosion occurs when "forcefield bubble" goes downPrior to haveing ... MoreI needed a powered subwoofer that would fit into a small location at the front of my living room. With the in-home trial, I figured why not give it a shot?Hooked it up, ran Audyssey on my Denon, and gave things a whirl with some movie scenes that havesome scenes with low frequencies.1) The scene in Ready Player One where the explosion occurs when "forcefield bubble" goes downPrior to haveing the SB-1000, this scene always gave my older tower speakers and Denon receiver a hard time.Sometimes the receiver would clip trying to handle the bass. After adding the SB-1000 to my configuration - the problem is GONE.Solid, smooth, clean bass fills the entire living room.I am quite pleased with the results.2) Godzilla King of Monsters - several scenes literally shook the windows.I may have to add the SVS isolation feet, but that will have to come down the road.3) Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring - opening battle scene where the ring is cut from Sauron's fingerAn amazing "oooooooooooooooooooooom" fills the room. If you've seen it the movie you know what I'm talking about. If you need even more lower end, then you may want to try the ported models.Bottom Line:This is amazing performance wrapped up into a very small package. It fits my requirements perfectlyI am very pleased, and highly recommend this product!
