SVS SB 1000 Subwoofer Gloss Black

I have a pair of Klipsch Heresy speakers. While these beasts can easily tingle the floor joists, they're only rated down to 50Hz. I didn't think much of that number until one day I connected my Klipsch passive subwoofer to my system (rated 36-150Hz) and realized I was definitely missing some low end! It was going to pain me to have a sub consuming power when not in use, but when I calculated the SB-1000, in Standby Mode for an entire year, would cost me a whopping 36 cents, I was satisfied that glowing red LED wouldn't mean I was pissing money out the window!I had a question or two prior to purchase and was impressed when their customer service manager promptly and honestly answered my e-mails. Right then I knew SVS was the right company to do business with.So I'm using the SB-1000 exclusively in a 2-channel stereo system and I'm perfectly happy with it.One feature I like are the detents on the adjustment knobs are great for tactile feedback when blindly making adjustments.And here are my only quibbles: The spiked feet are too short to make floor coupling through my low pile carpet. I'd consider purchasing taller feet if they were available.And I was pleasantly surprised when I received my subwoofer: Inside the box was an SVS t-shirt! I'd gladly broadcast to the world of my SVS love, but they sent an XL sized shirt when I wear a small. ;-(

I did an extensive set of auditions and in-room measurements in a 12x32 foot listening room, well damped by furniture and rugs, paired with my KEF LS50W wireless speakers, versus the more expensive, slightly larger and heavier KEF Kube10b, which has nearly identical amplifier and frequency response specs but a 10" driver. The SVS won the competition easily, with an audibly smoother frequency response. The KEF subwoofer has a peak at 50-60Hz that coincides with a room response peak at the same frequencies, and I wasn't able to control this with placement, so I had to choose between unnatural emphasis at those notes or weak response elsewhere. I moved the KEF's default "subwoofer on" crossover control up from 80Hz to 95Hz, which I think subjectively is better sounding; at high volumes the KEF LS50W seems to exhibit some treble glare that I think might be caused by the tweeter being located within the woofer's axis when there's high woofer excursion, and I think this ameliorates that.My test equipment was a calibrated Dayton Audio mic, the AudioTools pink noise track from Amazon Music HD via USB-input into the KEFs, and an iPad Pro with the AudioTools app.Test tracks via Amazon Music HD included "Hotel California" live, Dave Matthews Band's "So Much To Say," Rob Wasserman's "Ballad of the Runaway Horse," the "Gnomus" track from Mussorgsky's Pictures at a Exhibition as performed by Jean Victor Arthur Guillou, Jose Carreras singing Ramirez's Kyrie from Missa Criolla, and a lot of miscellaneous world, rock and pop such as Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Midnight Oil, Mickey Hart, Holly Cole (yes), Clannad, Yanni live (yes, yes, I know, but it's actually good)... the SVS's never disappointed with taut, musical, even underpinnings for all of this. The smooth responsiveness and tight grip was especially audible on songs with staccato "walking" bass notes like "Billie Jean," "Hotel California," "It's My Life," etc. I spent the better part of two days listening to alternatively the KEF subwoofer ($650) and the SVS ($500) and I'd say the SVS is worth twice the cost of the KEF. I'm keeping the SVS and returning the KEF! The SVS rounds out my KEF LS50W's perfectly and together, for $2500, they outperform systems I've auditioned at more than 10x the cost! It's a match made in heaven.

I bought this sub to enhance the low frequencies of my Wharfedale Denton 8oth anniversary bookshelf speakers. The SVS SB 1000 sub blends seamlessly with the Dentons. I listen to a wide variety of music. For the new age/ambient music, i did not realize how much low frequencies are in this style of music until I added the sub. This sub also realistically conveys a life like sound of the contra bass and tuba in orchestral music. I listen to jazz and blues. This sub is great for the bass guitar and drums. I used this sub with the SVS Ultra RCA cables and the isolation feet to provide a distinct and accurate bass. I used to be a musician earlier in life and grew up in an audiophile home. The SVS Ultra Bookshelf and this sub would make a great 2.1 system for any music aficionado with limited space and budget I suggest also getting the high quality rca connectors and isolation feet. The SB 1000 is not just a sub. It is almost like a musical instrument!
