I bought this because my carpets are not very old and I have an active Labrador who loves getting into the water and mud. A while back I had an orange round vacuum/wet Vax. When cleaning the carpet with the older model (used in Australia) it was not necessary to hoover first. This new model requires the carpets to be vacuumed first. As my carpets are only 1 & 3 years old and I clean them almost daily, I wasn't expecting to find that they were that dirty. The used water after cleaning was a milk chocolate colour. The carpets did not dry in one hour, despite doing extra dry runs over them and turning the heating on. You cannot keep the wash solution in the machine between uses as it does leak. We, my husband and I, bought the Vax Platinum SmartWash Pet-Design Carpet Cleaner because we have a dog, 2 indoor Siamese cats and a lot of human traffic coming and going in our house. We have a multi purpose sitting room that is used the most for the pets, family and friends. It was amazing the dirt that came out of the carpet in this room as you can see it clearly in the dirty water tank. It has a separate tank for the clean water which is great. It also has a wand which is part of the handle system. This can be removed easily and used to remove stubborn stains. Accidently, a diffuser fell off the windowsill and stained a area on our carpet. It also has a button you press for dry only to give a further dry. You are advised to hoover first before using the carpet cleaner which makes sense so that hairs, fluff etc do not clog up the machine. It was great to see even more hair/fluff being picked up by the carpet cleaner. I can't thank Vax and the engineers for producing this wonderful carpet cleaner. I would advice you to read for yourself what it can do and compare with other carpet cleaners. Not all carpet cleaners have a dry mechanism which means your carpets will take longer to dry. Lastly it is a carpet cleaner that actually cleans, washes and dry's. Gives excellent results. Is easy to assemble and take apart for cleaning.

We purchased this vax to replace the carpet cleaner we have had for some years now which had been manufactured by a different company and are we glad we did . The improvements over the years are quite remarkable. We got our first vax in the 1990s when it was just like a large cylinder vac with a hose and tools so you got a good workout when cleaning your carpet . These modern ones make life so easy . The one which our new vax replaced was ok but it was impossible to clean fully after you had used it but this new vax is so easy to strip down and clean it is almost a pleasure cleaning it after it has been used. You can see a lot of thought as been put into its design. I've now cleaned two 20 x 12 foot living rooms, 2 hallways and a kitchen (with the help of my hubby). It's easy to do forward for solution and back to dry with the additional dry only button. I did find I like to lay my water down and agitated then dry as this allows the solution to work. So going forwards only is our only option. The machine is quite big so small areas are tiresome on the wrist and arm muscles. I do like the way the machine comes apart for cleaning, by lifting off the front and removing the brush bars meant we could remove all fluff and debris. All I can say is well done to the Vax R & D team who have worked miracles for both the machine and the cleaning products. I even like the cleaning solution it does not leave an overpowering smell afterwards, which can be an issue with pet birds, it just leave beautiful cleaning carpets, dry in no time. The only issue we had was the pet wand sprayer ( is built into the handle ) it took a long time to prime, so much so we thought it was broken, it does say it takes time to prime but it took many attempts to get it to work, when it did it came out more like a small spray then a fine spray, it did the job in the end, and when you look at the video its as shown.So our carpets look like new, and curtains don’t need replacing, so glad I bought this, don’t miss out of the offer, it’s s great package. 6 years warranty, and it paid for itself in the first use!
Let’s start at the beginning with the next day delivery. As promised it arrived the next afternoon in a big but easily manageable box. A smaller box contains the free spot shampoo. Opening the big box to discover a readymade product with only the tanks and the spray handle to slide into place, easy peasy so far. Having a Vax XL Ultra I’m used to pushing this type of machine around and the quality of the wash so I was looking forward to making the comparison. Very quickly I’ve loaded the Vax Platinum antibacterial solution into it’s dispenser and the water into the tank, I’ve even managed to open the box of Vax carpet guard and get that into it’s receptacle and all within 5 minutes. After giving my carpets a good going over with my vacuum cleaner I proceeded to use the new Vax Platinum SmartWash pet carpet cleaner and first impressions were of the pressure needed to use it, very little in comparison. It was almost gliding along with the greatest of ease. Why almost? Well the double brushes do their job extremely well, in fact I found that they were far better that the brush head on my vacuum. When drawing the Vax cleaner backwards it automatically goes into dry mode and it vacuums and brushes the carpet with tremendous vigour leaving the carpet quite dry and visibly cleaner of cat fur, clumps of it being lifted that my vacuum should have, and boasted, that it would have. I started with the traditional Vacuuming type movement, short back and forth while moving along the carpet and was getting pretty good results, the living room carpet looked brighter and smelled fresher straight away. Emptying the dirty water took merely a minute and with plenty of Vax Platinum solution left I aimed squarely for the hallway. Long and wide I decided on a different approach, I would walk SmartWash down the full length then turning it off I’d return to the start and do the same again. Having let the Platinum shampoo do its job for a few minutes I then switched to pull mode and dry the carpet. I honestly think that giving it a chance to settle onto the fibres of the carpet it cleaned the area brighter. Proceeding to complete the hall carpet using the same method took no longer than the traditional up and down up and down the carpet, but I did feel it was more productive, it gave a brighter clean and therefore a fresher smell. There were a few heavy marks close to the front door which required using the easily removable handle dispenser to spot spray them, i done this before starting the hallway to give it time to work, and work it did, they completely disappeared after going over the carpet as above, I was delighted. Having impressed me with its controlled usage of detergents I then decided to go all out dry mode and test out the dryness when finished. The fun part was, I could watch all the water getting sucked out of the carpet and when no more came out I moved to the next bit, astounding, it done everything it claimed. In under an hour my carpets were dry. I gave it the paper towel test at the 45 minute mark and it passed, bone dry. Not only did the Vax Platinum SmartWash Pet Carpet Cleaner live up to its advertisement, the new technology being employed by far exceeds previous machines of Vax and dare I say the other market leaders too. I feel happy saying this as I have used other brands in the past, but no longer. This machine does it all, spot cleaning, upholstery, stairs and carpets, all with equal degrees of cleanliness, this makes it one of the best buys on the market now, and for the foreseeable future too.
We needed something more flexible to replace the rather cumbersome 6151 and it certainly is that. It is easy to operate and not too heavy to handle. The double rotating brushes, strong suction and automatic detergent mixing make the whole cleaning procedure more efficient. I really like that I can select "dry" allowing me to get most of the moisture out of the carpets and reduce drying time to 1+ hours, so far.Cleaning the machine after use is easy, except for the nozzle where debris tend to cling to the small bars at the front (they won't just wash clear but can be easily removed manually.Cleaning the brushes is straightforward as described in the user guide. The housing less so as debris and dirt collect in and around the framework and are not easily removed. may be placing the machine outdoors and washing down the brush housing with a hose will work, but I think a bit too extreme!I haven't yet tried using the hose and tools, so can't comment on these accessories.I have been really pleased with the results so far (3 carpets) and have not found the need to use the rinsing option available.I am anticipating finding piece of mind in that I can confidently clean carpets more regularly than waiting to justify the expense of calling in professional cleaners to remedy grubby carpets.
Excellent easy to use carpet cleaner with some real power behind it. Just remember it is not a vacuum and the motions needs to be done very slowly. My carpets and rugs are coming up a treat.My only gripes are : no rinse button, and the spray nozzle trigger on the hand held pipe sometimes reopens whilst cleaning letting more detergent and water out than necessary. If you are busy scrubbing a surface you don't always realise when this has happened as it's only when you lift the head up that you see the spray jetting out....However, these are very minor problems and the cleaning power of the attachment heads and main unit are great. Dry only function is wonderful too!
