Vortex Razor HD 4000 Rangefinder

There are mixed reviews of this online and I have tried and owned different brands over the years.These appear to be a very quality body, better than I expected and the glass is as bright as I could hope for. As it is 7x magnification it’s hard to directly compare but in terms of light gathering and clarity it is up there with a pair a Leica Trinovid at 8x.The reviews I read that were negative seemed to not understand how to use the various menu items to give readings in different scenarios, I have tried them all with different subjects at known distances and it is spot on. Best Rangefinder for the money

Crystal clear glass that yields a bright picture unlike most other rangefinders on the market, simple to use, superb rangefinder. I looked at Sig, Leupold, and Bushnell before purchasing this. I use this for long range shooting, hunting, and golf. There is not a better rangefinder on the market that will perform at this level in this price point, not to mention the Vortex warranty is unsurpassed!

Does everything that I want and is accurate

Moving up from my old rangefinder was worth it for me. I like the clarity, the magnification, being able to change the brightness, and other features. My old rangefinder didn't have a scan feature, and I like being able to select 'first' or 'last' when things are on top of each other to be able to find the furthest or closest object. It's accurate, too.I have tried it on dark trees many, many times, and got a reading all but one time aiming at the base of one particular dark tree. All of the other shots always returned a reading. It passed this test with flying colors. My old rangefinder fails here.The readout appeared blurry one time, but I realized that I was hot from walking and climbing, and it was cold out. I wiped the lens and it was fine. I have it 2 weeks straight for bow hunting so far and have ranged out to 100 - 120 yards from a treestand. (With my old rangefinder, I would have ranged a few trees from my stand and would have put it away. I kept trying it out.)The magnification is nice, but I found that I did have to switch to my binoculars to be able to see a third point on one side of antlers to be able to legally shoot a deer where I was hunting. I wasn't expecting to be able to see such a small object, but I tried it nonetheless. It doesn't replace my binoculars, but I didn't expect it to.I ranged further distances while in camp checking it out. It's a little bigger than my old rangefinder in my hand, but it's not unwieldy. About the only thing that I didn't like was the handstrap. I'll be replacing the small, coiled strap that it comes with with a longer strap that I can put around my neck or attach to my pack.LIke I said, it's accurate, and I like it. It's also easy to switch between functions. If I don't lose it, it's the last one that I'll buy until I can't hunt anymore.

Good performance even better with a tripod.

Great features: first, last, scan and ELR. These can be used interchangeably to really narrow down a specific distance. The measurements line up very well with ballistic data charts. How much more accurate can it be when using an app and it says adjust such and such for a certain distance this range finder displays that same distance and the two intersect? Great for situational awareness. While on the open range another group showed up. They were off in what appeared to be the not so far distance. Concerned that we would be too close, the rf had them almost 2 miles away. It also comes in handy for laying out long distances into smaller manageable sections.

Great Rangefinder. Best Warranty.

Bought the 4000 rangefinder not to range out to 4000 yards, but to make under 1000 so much easier. I took it to the dunes overlooking Lake Michigan. It would not range the water looking down, but it did range individual seagulls on the water out to 650 yards very easily. I ranged a fishing boat out to 1500 yards. The furthest reading I was able to get a while freehand was a building at 2500 yards. After hitting seagulls at 600 yards, I know it will be fine for me ranging deer out to 500 yards.

Great range finder

I had a 10 year old, cheaper, range finder that wasn't cutting it any more. I wanted a range finder that would work for long range shooting and my normal hunting needs. This one has been great. Super clear image and I love the red reticle. I've ranged out to 2200 yards, but haven't tried anything further yet. I looked at some other options, but went with the vortex one for the warranty. It fits great in a marsupial gear large range finder pouch.

VORTEX HD 4000 Rangefinder

I never used rangefinder as such hence short listed this one after doing little homework. Cost wise it is slightly on higher side but after using it for several days I can say it's value for money. Built quality is very good, light weight & has minimum controls which makes it easy to handle/operate.7x25 gives good coverage & magnification. As long as the object can reflect the rays this has excellent range. Quality of the lenses used gives excellent night vision too. Storage case provided by the manufacturer is too good. I purchased this few days back hence can't say anything about Battery life, but hopefully it should be okay as it's Lithium Battery.

Very Impressed With This Unit

I am loving this rangefinder. I haven’t had a chance to get this thing out in the bush yet, (adulting has been getting in the way) but I’ve been bringing it to the office and I am seriously impressed with it. The optics are bright & clear and the 6x magnification is surprising effective, but what’s truly impressed me is how easily it ranges distant targets. Just standing and using it freehand I’ve ranged a building over 2km away. Not so spectacular since it’s a large flat surface, I suppose, but I also managed to range a single tree trunk at over 1200 meters, freehand, and that impressed me a lot.I’m really looking forward to using this in the fall while chasing whitetails around the BC interior.

I would highly recommend this rangefinder. I wanted one for both rifle and archery but always backed out of the purchase due to very mixed reviews. Glad I pulled the trigger on this though. Solid, clear display. I’ve used it hundreds of times with established distance items and it’s always dead on. Foggy mornings don’t hamper its performance either. Can’t wait till bow season begins. Super unit although a bit pricey but hey, in this case you do get what you paid for.

works but max range was 2150

So far it seems to be a nice reliable piece. I recently used it on mountain goats and moose in BC. The farthest I could get a range was 2150 yards on solid rock. This seems fairly typical with rangefinders (roughly half of the distance on the box) but was hoping for at least 2500 yards on reflective targets
