A few improvements would make this 5 stars

I have two of these grills as I cater an annual event for my division at work. The heat efficiency is incredible. I use this as my daily grill and only need one chimney of coals to cook for my family of 5 with plenty of room to maneuver. When I cater with this grill, I still have plenty of room to cook different items (and I cater for gatherings of 120+) directly and room for indirect cooking as well. Here's what I think would make this a 5 star grill: 1) where's the thermometer? This grill should have one if not several at this price point. 2) no cover? Even though my oldest is approaching 10 years old and sits in the elements with no signs of rust except on some of the bolts, I would like to see a cover made for this as an accessory (if not included with the ... MoreI have two of these grills as I cater an annual event for my division at work. This grill does not have a way to truly remove the ash unless you shovel it out. I'd like to see an ash catcher on this model like some of the smallerkettles.

Decent but overpriced.

The grill has been good so far. Initial setup was hampered by one piece missing and one leg being incompletely drilled through. Contacted support including pictures of the problems and the missing part number and haven't heard a word from them in 6 *weeks*, so if you have a problem you're on your own, despite spending $1500 on a charcoal grill. The grill itself is very large and once you get the hang of the damper settings and the amount of charcoal you're going to use, it has been great for grilling and smoking. It's the SUV of grills: expensive, huge, versatile and guzzles fuel, but if regular grills just aren't big enough this is probably what's you're looking for.

Good but headaches and weeks before it was built

Double of main leg shipped so could not assemble. Got sent a replacement but the main bolt that should have been included with 2 washers and nut was not shipped. After waiting 2 weeks AFTER receiving the $1500+ grill i just went to menards for the hardware. I currently own 4 weber grills/smokers and have owned another 2 grills prior to these and this was my first bad experience. But as the 2nds most expensive grill...id hope it was packed right.

Great Purchase
20 August 2020

I've used the Ranch Kettle several times and am overall pleased. I use the Slow 'n Sear inserts which really work well. The only reason I give 4 starts instead of 5 is the ash removal process. Removing the grill grate and the lower grate is pretty cumbersome due to their weight, but I expected that with a grill this size. If you're going to grill this large you have to be able to handle the parts. My problem is actually with the small vents in the lower bowl. I use a mason's brush to clean out the ashes. A large, central opening with a slide door would be better to brush the ashes out.I typically make entire meals for my wife and myself. A large, central opening with a slide door would be better to brush the ashes out.I typically make entire meals for my wife and myself. This grill allows me to have multiple zones for direct and indirect cooking, cast iron cooking, slotted vegetable pan cooking, desserts, pizzas, flaming romaine lettuce, wilting spinach, warming/cooking bread, etc. In addition, I can grill for large parties and no longer need to have 3 grills going at once.I just think a slight modification of adding a large central opening with a slide door in the bottom bowl would complete this grill. I don't think the One Touch system would work too well in a grill this size, plus I have found that system quits working well over time due to heat warping the metals. I don't mind brushing the ashes but think the opening would help a lot. I've tried scooping the ashes but the curvature of the bowl makes it difficult. You can use a shop vac as long as the ashes are not hot, but that can be pretty messy.

Great Smoker As Well
18 June 2023

This is my second review. I have owned the ranch kettle for over 25 years and it's a 10. I forgot to mention in the first review that it's a great smoker. Although I only the 18" smokey mountain smoker, I often use the ranch for smoking. It's amazing !!! Just use the indirect heat with charcoal in about 1/4 of the grill and use the Minion method. Can't go wrong.

It's different
12 January 2018

I have a 22" kettle I have owned for a few years amd have dialed in the vent settings I need for low and slow cooking. Forget what you think you know about setting the vents with the Ranch. Fully open top vent lets all the heat out, i stead of getting it up to temp. About halfway open is where you want to start. I love the Ranch for smoking large amounts of butts, briskets, etc. I use the same BBQ Guru PartyQ on both kettles, which helps tremendously. Also, if you are going low and slow, don't use the lid holder, which lets all the heat out. Instead, lift the lid and set it flat on a hard surface, and your cooking temp comes back right away.

The Beast Grill

This grill is a well made beast. You can easily grill for a large group. I have been wanting this grill for years and it was worth the wait. I only wish it had a dome thermometer and that Weber sold a cover for it.

Will WOW your neighbors
17 June 2024

I have been cooking on my Weber Ranch Grill for a few years and when I throw a few butts on or a few briskets I always have room to put another one on for all the neighbors. It’s so amazing to cook on!I can put charcoal on both sides and I never get any flair ups. It’s so fun to cool on

Wonderful BBQ, charcoal grate could be improved
9 January 2024

I've had this Ranch Kettle for many years. It stands outside, uncovered for years, all seasons, remains spotless. The way it cooks is amazing. Not only high quantity but quality as well. Here are some pointers or improvements for Weber to consider: I wish Weber made a cover for the Ranch Kettle for obvious reasons. The Charcoal Grate sags in the middle over time. Becomes bowl-shape. It's got to be the heat softening it and the weight of the coals exacerbated by the total width. Wondering if you added a vertical post for the middle of the grate in order to add support. Maybe larger holes in the bottom? What currently exists is the same as in the 22" model. These are minor points. I bbq approximately 3-4 times a week. I'm thrilled about the Ranch Kettle!

I’ve had mine since the early 2000s. I used to be a chef and I am also the owner of a catering company. I use this at home. It’s just a big Weber, which means it has all the same quality as the standard Weber or the Smokey Joe. I wish I could get a baby Weber but I guess they don’t actually make those.
