First I cut the slices into small pieces (the process was so easy) then mixed them with my leftover fruit mince from ChristmasPrepared the crumble that goes on top and baked it. As the apples were already nice soft, I reduced the baking time. The result was very niceThe taste wasn't much different compared to the previous time with fresh applesI think fresh apples will remain my first choice, but I wouldn't mind using these apple slices in their absence, even if the South African origin is putting me a little off. A great product I would definitely recommend.

Unfortunately it’s not just the season here, but everyone is safe so that’s all that matters - touch wood! I used these in Apple Pies in our Pie Maker. We usually buy a larger tin in a dearer brand because it’s more cost effective, so to see that Woolworths now have these and them being available in a smaller tin is great when you only want to make enough to serve 4 people 1 pie each. They are also a very reasonable price at $1. 85 for 385g. This equates to $4. 81 per kg vs roughly $10kg for the 400g can in the name brand. The tin also has a convenient ring pull to make life that little bit easier. Valuable Apple Can. Firstly I must credit @supersaversue for the idea to add my sample to a cake mix packet. I was going to make a pie and she wisely suggested she has added canned apples to a cake before and it was yummy. I then decided to make them into cup cakes which suited me better than a cake. was so happy to see a ring pull top which made opening the can so easy. And it was all apple... no liquid filling to spill out and the pieces of the fruit were a decent size and held their shape well. Too big for what I wanted so had to cut them much smaller. But I would far rather this than have smaller mushy pieces. the price of $1. 85 was quite a bargain I thought and do think the tin size of 385g would be so useful for many uses. I’d never buy a can this small, not in 1 million years, so I was interested to see what I was gonna do with it!!Finally one evening, we had nothing delicious to eat for dessert so I decided to use some puff pastry offcuts that I had in the freezer and made some makeshift Apple matchsticks. I patched some pastry together to make some rectangles and threw it in the oven while I opened this surprising little can. It made three separate mini deserts. I can only imagine with the larger can could do!!I’m sold on this can of Apple pie mix and can’t see me peeling kilos of granny Smith apples again in the future. Despite it being a product of South Africa, the quality was sensational and the price is just as good. I would my most definitely purchase this again, over and over. Even just to have it in the pantry as needed. And yes, I’d even buy the small again! It just goes to show that samples we receive really do become regulars in our pantry. Thanks Woolworths!!

From my experience, Granny Smith Apples are meant to be sour and sharpI found this both bland and sweeter than expected - that combination doesn't make much sense I know - but I cannot think of anyway else to describe it. Eating straight from the tin, I didn't like the taste or texture at all. However, once I added in some cinnamon powder, it became edible and reasonably pleasantI ended up using it in a Bread & Butter Pudding, and that combo was super gorgeous when dried fruit, cinnamon and custard was added into the mix. Wanted to try baking it in my air fryer and that’s where the the plans started to derail… I substituted wheat flour for coconut flour which greatly reduced the volume of cake mixture and then it only just covered the large tin surface of my air fryer. I simply placed the pieces as neatly as I could with the pieces I had in the can I'm truly excited by the possibilities of repurchasing and using this product again to bake muffins, pies, or crumbles. I think it would also taste nice if paired with ice-cream or yoghurt.

It was the perfect snack for me - a lower carb snack that feels a little healthier than the type I’d buy in the shop. I put the apples into my little stick blender till smooth, added Woolies brand sunflower seeds, chopped nuts, rolled oats, cinnamon and honey (from my previous sample). Combined it to be a bit stickier than I usually make my muesli. I then pressed it down firmly onto a baking tray and cooked it. Once cooked, I removed it and cut into bite size slices and returned it to the oven to crisp out. These little snacks are AMAZING! I will be buying this can of pie apples on a regular basis now!
