Worth buying. I picked this up a few days before Mr 27 came back from his 2 month overseas holiday. The way the meat was packaged allowed it to sit in the fridge until he was ready to use it. He ate it in two sittings and chose to season it and cook it in a pan with baked potatoes and steamed veggies. He found a noticeable amount of gristle on every piece. For a family of four who eat meat this would be a good option for a weekday meal. As I am used to meat being sold by the price per kilo, meaning each packet is a different price because each packet weighs a different amount, I am still thinking about the fact that this is a 600g pack, which means it sells for $15. 50 per pack. I liked the that the graphics on the packaging are simple but am amused that the recommendation to rest the meat before serving comes before the picture on how to cook it. Yes we would buy this product again.

Delicious but pricey. I had this for my lunch today with some air-fried chips. I don't recall having had Oyster Blade steak before. I really don't eat a lot of steak due to the price so it was nice to trial something that is usually out of my price range. Normally I'd see a price tag of $15. 50 for 4 steaks and my eyes would glaze over and quickly move to chicken or mince. I fried the steak - I had to guess how long - around 8 mins on each side. It would probably have been almost well done to the Mastercheffy types but I didn't mind - it tasted fine to me. The wrapper says it is "Tender. Juicy. Tasty" and I found that to be true. It is 100% Aussie Beef and just as well - we don't need to import our beef - especially when I live within 40km to the beef capital - ... MoreDelicious but pricey. Although the wrapper didn't give me a cooking time guide (like another steak sample I had recently) it did say to "rest for 5 mins before serving" and yes I have heard that quite a bit from watching the cooking shows - but I have no idea why it's done. I did let it "rest" in the turned off frypan while I sorted out putting my chips on the plate but all the resting does for me is make my food cold. So I ended up shoving my plate of steak & chips into the microwave for a minute anyway - tasted fine to me. I added some salt & pepper and a bit of BBQ sauce - I enjoyed the steak very much even if I cooked it like an amateur. The wrapper also tells me that there are no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives but the tray (and film) both go in the bin - ie: not recyclable which I find disappointing. Due to the price I most likely would not buy this again but I do recommend it to anyone else with a healthier budget than myself.

Pat’s birthday treat! . I didn’t receive these as a bunch sample but last week I bought a packet of these steaks for my brother for his birthday wrapped them up and handed the cold parcel to him. He felt the shape of the packaging and gave me a strange look and asked why I handed him a cold book. Then he opened up the present and was absolutely ecstatic to see these juicy steaks staring back at him. He even gave his ‘un cool’ sister a hug which he never gives willingly. So that night my dad and my brother cooked up the steaks on the bbq with some sliced onion and mushrooms, my mum cooked some chips and I made a salad to go with them. I actually had fish instead of the steak because I don’t really like steaks that much, but my family absolutely raved about how juicy ... MorePat’s birthday treat! . I actually bought another packet yesterday as a surprise for my family, it has a good used by date and my family is very excited to have these steaks again.

Oh my! Oyster blade steak with the row of gristle in the centre toughens when cooked by dry heat but it’s a perfect choice for moist heat cooking such as stews, casseroles and slow cooking which was my choice. The browned steak went into the cooker with some onion, carrot, celery, herbs and a little stock and there it sat on high untouched for three hours as the most delicious aroma filled the house. The result was so delicious! The four 2cm thick steaks had cooked perfectly. There was so very little fat and the steaks virtually fell apart without being dry. The delicate beef flavour was still detectable but not overly so like gravy beef or chuck steak can be. The vacuum pack of these steaks allowed me to freeze them for a couple of weeks before cooking with no adverse affect on quality. A great choice of cut for winter meals.

Quality Steak. Last night we decided to treat ourselves for dinner with this generous sample we received of oyster blade steak. I located the steak in the meat department with no worries as plenty in stock and packaged with clear writing with four generous pieces at a reasonable price of around $15 I can’t usually afford steak so very fortunate for the sample with Bunch as also received eye fillet the other month. I pan fried the steak but thought I should of barbecued for better taste but anyhow added the necessary seasoning and olive oil and was pleasantly satisfied with the texture and taste also surprisingly didn’t take long to cook. Also was wondering why they call it oyster blade steak as no oyster flavour unfortunately maybe the tech flavour. Overall I would recommend it to my bunch family without hesitation as we enjoyed the quality meal with much gratitude for receiving the sample.

Tender blade. Beef area was well stocked with lots of different cuts to look through. Clear tray shows off the four good sized and very thick steaks with lots of marbling. Film peels off a dream as label suggests. Smelled fresh and no blood or juices ran out. Removed the fat off edge and chopped into chunky pieces and put in pressure cooker. Once browned a little added mushrooms, spring onions, gherkins and paprika spice mix to make a goulash and served with rice. Have never had Oyster Blade before and thought it would be a tougher cut but meat came out juicy and tender. At $15. 50 it’s priced nearly the same as the heart smart diced beef which is what I would’ve normally used. Although being steaks these are better value. Mouth watering - delicious. Cooked this in a slow cooker on high for a few hours. The aroma was sensational and the meat just fell apart. We enjoyed this cut with all its amazing goodness particularly the soft gristle centre strip. In the past, I wouldn't buy this cut since my family would not eat soft gristle. Now everyone loves it and I think it's due to the new understanding about the nutritional value of meat with gristle and even fat - as my son used to say "the globulous bits". Dr Ken Berry on Youtube has been very informative in educating us about eating meat with all the fat and gristle. It's good for you! Will definitely buy again.

Budget beef. I’ve never bought oyster blade beef and was quite skeptical as I don’t usually like slow cooked beef cuts that are this marbled. However, I am now a convert - what a great, versatile and economical cut of meat!!Found in the meat department, this beef was easy to locate and looked lovely and fresh (red) in the vacuum pack. Each pack is a standard 600g, and works out at $25/kg. Not that cheap for a slow cooked cut of meat but that’s just the prices these days I guess? I would ordinarily just buy rump when it’s on special instead. The package was easy to open, with the plastic film just peeling off. Slow Cooking Is Best For This Cut. I had to Google what to do with this to be honest. I usually purchase much leaner meat, also generally prefer pork and salmon over beef. Oyster blade is not a protein I am used to cooking with. Google kindly told me this meat is best for slow cooking, pot roasts, camp ovens. Low and slow methods of cooking basically. So I diced the steaks and made a beef burgundy stew with mushrooms, carrots, onions, potatoes, etc. Came out fantastic! I removed and thickened the liquid section, broke down the clunky leftovers a little with a fork, added back the thick gravy and made homemade pies. These turned out stunning too. Maybe if these steaks were on special I would purchase them. I am not confident with this protein and Google is saying low and slow. I'm not sure how it would turn out if I cooked it like a traditional steak. As a side note, the potatoes I received as another bunch sample went into the stew, and these turned out fantastic. Highly recommend! *This was not a bunch sample* I was looking for a budget friendly steak for the family and thought I’d give this a try, and I absolutely recommend it! Even though this particular steak contains gristle in the centre, when it’s cooked right it is incredibly succulent. This is a somewhat tough cut of meat, however I find the following tips really helps to tenderise the steak:- Leaving the steak to rise to room temperature- Salting or marinating the steak (e. g. butter or worcestershire sauce)- Slowly cooking the meat (I use the air fryer 200°C for 8 minutes for medium well or less for medium rare, no turning)- Allowing the steak to rest before eating.
