If you buy from a big box store immediately check the serial, see when it was made, and if your warranty is current or expired that way you can decide if you want to keep it or send it back for a refund. Hope this helps.5 stars for the controller being a genuine Microsoft product but 2.5 stars for Walmart for the condition the box came in and for not disclosing that this was a used product.

Best Regular Xbox Controller to Date!

Best regular Xbox controller on the market right now. I had one of the Elite controllers previously and honestly wasn’t really a fan of that one, so I have to say this feels like the nicest controller Microsoft has delivered so far. The textured controller grips and textured trigger buttons are a big improvement, it helps the controller feel more solid overall. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows however - I won’t ding this review too badly as I’m hoping this controller lasts longer, but I will caveat things by noting my previous controller that came with my Series X died on me after 10 months of heavy use (faulty right trigger button, starts to stick when you depress the trigger and won’t pop back out) and this was purchased to cover me while I waited for my ... MoreBest regular Xbox controller on the market right now. I’ve noticed both sticking trigger buttons and broken bumper buttons tends to be an issue with the general controller design MS uses, and it was an issue on the older Xbox One X controllers too, so that’s a bit of a bummer to see the new ones continuing to utilize that same general design internally.I have both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 - One thing I will say is that I prefer the size/shape ergonomics of the Xbox controller a bit more in terms of comfort after longer gaming sessions, but the Sony controllers definitely feel more premium and have greater functionality, which to me helps justify the price in my mind more. The Xbox controllers are quite expensive, and given how many I have gone through over the years it is a little frustrating to either need to repair or replace them as often as they’ve needed so far. We’ll see if the latest gen Xbox controllers hold up any better, but I’ve had my PS5 as long as my series X and my PS5 controllers are still running solid as a tank… but this is already my 2nd Xbox controller in 10 months. :(

Might last 3mo if lucky. Defective Joystick Module
23 August 2023

I've bought 3 replacement Microsoft Xbox series s/x Controllers since buying my Xbox Series X. Every Controller sooner or later had the same problem! The left joystick would drift upwards. I found out that when you buy a Microsoft Branded Controller via a 3rd party retailer (Walmart) the warranty goes into effect when WALMART purchased the Controller NOT when you purchase it from Walmart. Microsoft gave me an incredibly hard time trying to get them to honor the warranty! I spent hours on the phone with them and sent numerous copies of my Walmart receipt in multiple formats. I dont usually post reviews, but Microsoft definitely earned a 1 star bad review! QC issues. Would go with a different option.

I will start this by saying I have bought 5 Shock Blue controllers thru various retailers since it released and they all seem to have Quality issues. The first one lasted about 6 months then stick drift. The second and third had buttons that would not make consistent contact with the pad on the mother boardwhich caused non registered button presses. The forth one was sent used to me, instant return.Changed my mind on this one and sent it back.I love the shock blue color, just don't understand the issues with the manufacturing and QC.Reported to Microsoft about the issues. So if you do buy this one keep the box and receipt and if you have the same issues just contact Microsoft who can repair or replace. Honestly I wasn't completely sold on this. The design is a bit minimalist for this price point. I bought it due to fear of missing out. I have the 20th anniversary and FH5 controllers and once the limited edition controllers sell out they don't make any more. (Not to be confused with the special edition controllers such as daystrike camo, mineral camo, stellar shift, stormcloud vapor, etc... ) Previously the FH5 was the best feeling series controller that I owned. The Starfield controller is the new champ. They put rubber on the handles and it feels incredible. Not just the outside panels, but where your fingers rest. Textured bumper buttons and triggers are a nice touch. Even the surface of the face plate has a different feel. Now that I own this controller the ... MoreHonestly I wasn't completely sold on this. Worst controller
7 August 2023

If you want an honest review, Xbox's are great and really fun, although there are many downsides too! However, when it comes to the controllers, the build quality is terrible! The plastic shell breaks easily after one drop and stick drift is inevitable (although they're better than Nintendo switch joy cons). The worst aspect of the controller though is the battery life. Xbox controllers are powered by two AA batteries which last the controller a good 20 hours of playtime (not 40). If you're someone who spends a decent amount of time on games, these controllers die so quick it's better off buying Sony's PlayStation; because those controllers are rechargeable. Less hassle, rage and better for the environment.
