So to use this product you have to keep the button on the side pushed in with your thumb for it to read the wall and will tell if you on an edge and it will tell you when it is stud. It beeps and on he screen will show up edge,stud,or wall. When you are straight up and down on the stud a red straight lazer light shines out of the top of the stud finder. Simple to use. The only thing that would make this a better product would be if you didn't have to hold down the button and the light stayed on longer if you wanted to make a mark on the wall. We only have two hands. The beep is not very loud and there is no way to turn it up or down. It's not an unpleasant beep and it's at a comfortable volume to me. I'm one that don't really like a lot of loud noises I actually keep my phone on silent most of the time. This is a great product for someone that is a carpenter,handyman,new home owner, or someone that plans on making improvements on their house.

It also has a feature that detects AC wiring, but I never saw an alert for wiring. Therefore, I either did not scan it across any wiring or that feature did not work for me – hard to say which. There is also a “deepscan” mode that is activated by pressing the power button twice. This detects studs, etc. that may be 1.5“ behind a wall. Again, since my studs are right behind the sheetrock, I did not have a need to try out that mode. For the low cost of this scanner, there is no excuse for any homeowner not to own one. It can save a lot of time and headache no matter what you are attaching to your wall. Works well for the price.

Not only is there a laser that shows you exactly where the center of the stud is located, but there is even a screen that shows when you are passing over the stud in the wall. The Zircon i65 works on both wood and metal studs up to 1 1/2” wide (2”x4”) and at various depths. It is really fast and easy to use this stud finder also. All you need to do is press the button on the side and wait for a second or two for it to calibrate to the wall. Next, slide it along the wall and it will show you on the screen when you come to the edge of the stud. When you are in the center of the stud the laser shines on the wall. Very fast and simple! There is even a signal strength indicator that distinguishes between shallow and deep targets. If you are having difficulty detecting the studs due to the type of covering material, simply change the sensitivity mode to high sensitivity. This Zircon i65 will scan through freshly painted walls, wallpaper, extremely textured walls or acoustic ceilings using a thin piece of cardboard on the surface, wood flooring, subflooring, and gypsum drywall over plywood sheathing. The tool is not recommended for lath and plaster due to irregularities. Keep in mind that the stud finder may only display one or two bars when the tool locates a stud through thick surfaces. What is really neat is this stud finder has an AC WireWarning Detection Indicator to let you know where the electrical wiring is in your walls! The entire unit runs on one 9V battery that is included. Zircon also provides a limited one year warranty. This will be a tremendous help while I continue my remodeling project. This is a great item to have in your toolbox and I highly recommend it. As usual, Walmart is selling this cool little device at a great, low price!
