I love this kettle! Have been eyeing it off for ages but couldn't justify paying the rrp. Great value for money! The whistle isn't overly loud my cheap ikea kettle was louder but it looks fabulous on the stove top. The bird plug feels a bit stiff but it you lift it up instead of straight out it is much easier to remove to pour

I have been looking at this kettle for a few years (yes, years!) but just couldn't justify spending so much $$. But when it went on sale it was just enough to make a difference and I ordered it. Like others have said, it makes me smile when I see it sitting on my stove top so I'm a happy owner. No regrets!

This is the third Alessi teapot I have purchased. The first, over 20 years ago, was for myself and it has brought me great joy over the years. I use it daily for afternoon tea, and find it graceful, whimsical and very durable. It sits on my stove top and it is one of my favorite objects. When my daughter moved to New Orleans for graduate school I gave her the identical one 2 years ago. She was thrilled to be able to carry on our afternoon tea tradition long distance. This year for the holidays I purchased the third teapot for my step-daughter, who lives in Toronto, so that all the girls could have tea together!

This is a beautiful kettle and looks lovely sitting snuggly between the Aga hot plates. It boils fairly quickly but not quite as good as my previous kettle which had a more solid steel base. However as long as you let it sit to warm with enough water in it's fine and possibly still a bit quicker than an electric. The whistle is fairly quiet and if it's too full doesn't whistle very well and spits water out but generally a pretty chirping sound.I'm very pleased with it and love the shiny finish!
Can you call a kettle beautiful?I just love the simplistic design of this kettle, the little details make a difference to your kitchen. The whistle top is a bird and I believe you can buy a dinosaur just to switch it up for fun. It's easy to wipe down , not too heavy like a lot of stovetop kettles and boils perfectly well like a good kettle should. It's slightly smaller than my usual kettles but what it does have is style and it suits my kitchen perfectly.
I have my original kettle, which is almost exactly the same, from 1985. The mirror finish wore off and I decided to replace it with a new one. I tried others and there were problems with them such as rusting, needing to be dried after each and every use, etc. My new Alessi has a problem. When the metal heats up, it expands and I can not remove the cover until it cools down and contracts back to its original (snug) fit. I am hoping to have the cover replaced with a better fitting one or to return the kettle for a new one. As stated, I've had this Alessi bird whistle kettle for 33 years and have never gotten tired of it. It always worked beautifully. I've replaced the bird whistle that wore out several times. I needed to get a new tea kettle and at first bought the Le Creuset large red tea kettle. The weight of the kettle once it was filled with boiling water was too heavy to safely use so I went back to my Williams Sonoma store to buy a new one. The only kettle I saw that I thought would be usable was this kettle. Lovely design. Whistles through the bird in the spout. But you must remove the bird to pour the boiling water! In addition, I have had the water burst out of the spout over the cups and onto the counter more than once. I could easily have scalded myself. This kettle is not safe to use. I bought the OXO Pick Me Up Kettle which is plain but safe!
This kettle works well on the induction hob, looks OK and is quirky. However, the whistle needs to be a snug fit, obviously, but you really have to wrestle it on and off. If the kettle has just boiled that's a bit problematic. The lid is the same. It does not feel well finished for what was a pricey kettle.
There is no doubt that this kettle is a work of art. Beautiful but, sadly, barely useable. When water is boiling the steam rises from gaps around the lid to make the handle, which should be heat proof, scalding hot. The whistle is anything but…more like a cry for help from a drowning sparrow. And because of its wide bottom it is unwieldy when pouring, requiring the use of both hands. This now has a place on a display shelf in. my kitchen…never to set foot on a stove burner again.
I have owned this teapot for over 50 years. It is still perfect and gorgeous. I take the birdy out when it is boiling and pour the water before replacing birdy. It is still spectacular. The desigh is timeless...in perfect condition..I give it as wedding gift often.
