Go for an adventure in any weather in the plush Altra Olympus 5 Low GTX. Altrarsquos premium EGOtrade MAX midsole foam gives you light and luxurious performance with a little extra bounce and durability. The Olympus is built with Altrarsquos Original FootShapetrade Fit, which is the most voluminous of Altrarsquos shoes. It also has their signature wide toe box so your toes can splay naturally. Like all Altra shoes, the Olympus has a Balanced Cushionedtrade platform that positions your heel and forefoot at equal distances from the ground (also called a 0 mm heel-to-toe drop), which encourages better alignment and form. Altra redesigned the outsole to make it even easier to run on uneven ground. The Olympus 5 has the grip and traction to take on any terrain thanks to its Vibramreg Megagriptrade, which is a durable and sticky high-performance rubber that works great on both wet and dry surfaces. A GORE-TEXreg upper will keep your feet dry as you hike through puddles or rainstorms, and Altra refined the sidewalls to increase stability while you are on uncertain footing. The premium collar has been redesigned for added comfort and keeps your heel secure. Go ahead and splash in the puddle and hike in the rain with the Altra Olympus 5 Low GTX.

Did the toe box shrink?

This is a very nice shoe. I was excited to find a waterproof Olympus because I love my other Olympus shoes so much. But I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the toe box is smaller, even though all Olympus shoes are listed as having the "original" toe box. It is subtle, but enough for my duck-shaped feet to feel it. It might be that the materials on the waterproof Olympus are just thicker and not that the toe box is actually smaller. If that's the case, I hope they can be broken in to be more comfortable there.

This is about my 5th pair of Altras. I read a lot of reviews for these shoes and some people just hated them, while a few others loved them. I was really mad because, as I walked around, they rubbed at the back of the heel. I kept wearing them (on my day off) around the house, and they eventually stopped rubbing and became really comfortable. (I have no idea why!) I've worn them riding down into the 30s (•F) and not felt cold. Also, my feet don't get clammy, so they are doing their job well and my feet are comfortable all day!My only regret is that I didn't buy the boots! It would have been nice to have some ankle coverage, but I may end up getting a pair of those next!

Good for running decent waterproofing.

Olympus is a great trail shoe so bought these for winter running and especially wet weather as there are no real options with Goretex for bad weather. They seem to remian dry for about an hour in really wet weather. Slow to dry (two days on heated floor). Fit is as good as every and no issues running in these "Hiking" Shoes.Altra you need gator connections on your all weather shoes and a Goretex running shoe. LP All Weather is not that waterproof with the event fabric. But still I wont buy anything else.

Great for all terrains
6 November 2022

I love how these shoes feel while walking. If you are somebody who tends to drag your feet or not the best at heel to toe walking, these are perfect for you. The way the toe is shaped, helps the way you walk. They didn't seem heavy or bulky even though they look like they could be. They were light weight and comfortable. The traction on the bottom is great for all terrains. They held up good while walking a wet trail with steep hills. I know some reviews say they are smaller in size but in my opinion they fit true to size. They are a little narrow where the laces start by the toe but after taking the thin insert out they fit me perfectly. Even without the insert they were comfortable. Great show with some minor cosmetic issues

1) First impression -The kicks came in a typical shoe box.I was actually somewhat turned off at first since the texture of the front/sides of the shoe made them look like they had been pre-worn... Upon turning the shoes over, I realized that they actually *were* brand new and it was just that the fabric texture got fuzzy/scratched up easily (possibly in transit).2) Pros -• Very comfortable. I have extremely wide feet so I tend to experience chafing or too much squeezing near my toes, but these felt incredibly roomy!• Love the Vibram grippy-ness... I had good results near water.• I've had good experiences with Gore-tex in the past so it was nice to see that as a feature on these shoes.• Pull-on loop near the back of the shoe was very convenient since getting ... More1) First impression -The kicks came in a typical shoe box.I was actually somewhat turned off at first since the texture of the front/sides of the shoe made them look like they had been pre-worn... Also would prefer a taller "neck" for higher levels of water.

I like that they are waterproof

I am a long-term Altra fan, and have had two pairs of Lone Peaks as well as the Outroad. I prefer the Lone Peaks but bought this shoe for the vibran sole and GORE-TEX. I wish they had these feature on the Lone Peak. I ended up going up a half size in this shoe compared to what I wear in the Lone Peak. I wear the same size in the outroad as the Olympus. The fit is slightly off: it is a bit uncomfortable for me in the mid foot, not sure why that is. Additionally, the laces are too short and I wish they were flat laces. The heel cup is also too short and I could see it digging in on long hikes. I think softer flat laces might help with this issue. I think Altra made the heel cup short so that the shoe would look like it is not a zero drop, but I could stand the ... MoreI am a long-term Altra fan, and have had two pairs of Lone Peaks as well as the Outroad. I find the way the toe rocker is designed to be very comfortable when walking and makes up for the bulkiness of the shoe. They are a bit heavier than I am used to but it is manageable and not uncomfortable.

Let me say I'M OBSESSED with the Oly 4's - so much so I lovingly abbreviated the name AND have bought 3 pairs! Not because they wear out quickly (although they kinda do) but because they require zero break in period to immediately feel like the roomy glove ??? you were hoping for. Roomy in the toe box and fitted every where else!NOW - you did not come here for a review on those... but that's my preface because I love my 4's so much and they just don't cut it in the winter/snowy/muddy months. I know gore tex shoes are not going to be nearly as flexible but these do a pretty good job of being lightweight AND bombproof. They do however take a minute to break in, and I absolutely hate the laces because they're too fat to adjust easily and double knot (otherwise they ... MoreLet me say I'M OBSESSED with the Oly 4's - so much so I lovingly abbreviated the name AND have bought 3 pairs! Umm... what happened to the roomy toe box??
3 May 2024

I hike in my altras and this has been my go-to for awhile now. I have LOVED this brand and it's shoes! I ordered 2 pairs online this time, one waterproof and the other not, feeling super confident in the sizing and fit after living in my other pairs. But I can't even wear these ones!! They seriously squeeze my toes. I have wasted my money and now I'm a bit lost trying to find a new shoe before a big, thru hiking trip I've been looking forward to all year.Altra, I was here for the roomy, wide toe box. Please bring it back 🙏🏻

Very uncomfortable
18 September 2024

These shoes are terribly uncomfortable. I'm on my 2nd day wearing them and they're just hurting my feet more and more. The fit is strange - super tight across the base of the toes (I have a bunion on one foot), but my heal slips up every time I take a step. They almost feel too long, but I can't imagine going doing a half size because of how tight they are everywhere else. I'm not sure I can return them because they were on sale, but I'd never buy them again. Unfortunately, this was my first experience with Altras and I'm not impressed.

Waterproof supportive roomy and tough!
19 May 2024

I originally bought these for a trip to Iguazu Falls. They worked great for me. My feet were quite warm but it was 107 degrees. Everyone commented on how tough these shoes look. I now wear them for working in my yard, going through wet grass, the woods or over rocks and mud. They get dirty and wet and offer great support and I just wipe them clean. I have bunions and use additional arch support and toe spacers with plenty of room. They fit me similar to my Paradigm Wides.
