Amazon - Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) - 2021 - Glacier White

The Amazon Show is a staple in my kitchen, a place the entire family spends a lot of time. The 8" screen is large enough to see, read and touch navigate the surprisingly crisp screen without taking up too much space. We use this to watch tv shows while baking and cooking meals. You can listen to music, podcasts, whatever you want. This has all the convenience of an Amazon echo device, a myriad of information at your fingertips. We have our daily alarms set to this device and we have a routine set up so it provides a fun joke for the kids in the morning. At the price point, I am thrilled with what this provides and highly recommend it. There are so many features we aren't using and if you want to have an organized area for the family, this is a great starting point.

 Let me start by saying I’ve owned the echoes for like 7 to 8 years ! I have always love the feature that I can check the weather check the news ask important questions get important news. I can turn off my lights my TVs my fans I mean I couldn’t even start my coffee pot with mine. I mean there’s just so many things and that’s keeping it simple I mean you can go as far as you can control your entire house from your window blinds to your thermostat to your garage door opener I mean there’s just so much, but keeping it simple I control my lights my fans, my TVs, my wax burners stuff like that I do have cameras outside that are you know connected to to my echo I do have cameras inside that are connected to my echo and 55 years old and I’m telling you this technology ... More Let me start by saying I’ve owned the echoes for like 7 to 8 years ! It does a lot for me. I have my Pandora account because I have an echo show eight I have an echo show five and then I have echo dots. I had other echoes but they were so I really do enjoy them and the show eight is a lot better than the show five I mean you can actually watch TV on both of them like different applications like Hulu Netflix prime video stuff like that HBO max now there’s more of them on the echo show eight then there is the echo show five and I’m trying to watch TV on the echo show five that’s too small of a screen for me now if I had to ask you OK with the echo show eight for a little while but you know I mean if I wanted to watch TV from my phone I just give up TV completely but anyways and it has a lot of good features. They can tell you when your orders are coming, you can make phone calls with them. You can drop it on loved ones you can video chat them with the echo shows I mean there’s just it can call the police for you I know it doesn’t have a 911 feature, but it does have page features where you can pay for you know like home protection, where like mine senses when I’m home when I’m not home It’ll sense glass breaking it’ll sense an alarm going off, you know because all my doors and windows have alarms and stuff, so I mean they’re capable of doing so much more than what I use them for. I do not like the advertisements I feel like if I wanna watch advertisements, I’ll subscribe to cable I do not want you to suggest to me what you think I should buy and so on I don’t like that feature either and you can’t turn it off, it’s it’s it’s things like that that annoy me about it now lately I’ve been having problems and I spoke to a lot of other users that are having the others that are also having the same problem where they just do some random thing that you didn’t tell them to do you actually didn’t tell them or ask them to do anything at all but all the sudden it’ll do it and or where it acts like it’s just not gonna work for a while and they’ve never done this before they just started I’d say towards the end of 2022 but I need my daughter has them in her home and they literally control every light every electronic in her house and she’s been having problems too so connecting with other users on the Facebook platform they are having problems too so I don’t know what’s going on with them. It also controls my fire stick. You can also use it as a speaker for your TV and so on so I mean there’s so many uses. I listen to my music on them to it it’s just there’s a lot to it and I would. I don’t know if I had so much is recommend them right now I would’ve before but now that I’m having all these issues I think they need to find whatever is going on and fix it, then I’d recommend it but I mean and they need to get rid of all the ads and stuff like that because I don’t I don’t buy spend good money on things to watch advertisements and so on I want to see what I want to see and that’s it. I don’t want to see what you want me to see you know what I mean but they can be very helpful. They could have a little personality if you say please and thank you they say you know please and thank you so I mean it’s it’s artificial intelligence but you know I was raised with manners so automatically I say please and thank you regardless so but anyways, that’s my review.

Frustrating Echo Show 8

I bought the echo show eight as an upgrade to my echo dot. I set it up and everything was working except for Amazon music. Songs would start play for a little while and then shut down. I went online looking for advice and tried a number of suggestions. I moved it closer to my Internet source. I moved it further from my Internet source. I shut it down turned it on again and repeated this a number of times. I left it overnight tried it again the next day and it would not work. I found on the Internet that they were number of complaints about the echo show having this problem. Eventually I decided I would return it and I left it sitting on The counter for a couple of days. Great device but lacks with lousy mic

Overall this is a great device. The screen is HD, the sound is very good for it's size , maybe a ltl too much bass as the high's are not so crisp. I have ring cameras and if one goes off I like how it pop's up the live camera view on the screen. I bought the stand with it makes it nice & sits level now. My only complaint is the mic. Not very responsive at all. Sometimes have to say Alexa commands twice. I also have two of the Gen5 which have amazing mic's. If you don't need the video screen the Gen5's give great performance as well.

Great little gadget

I really like the Echo Show 8. A few little bugs (I try to bring up security camera views and it never opens them all at the same time) and it is slower to respond than my Echo Dot. Many times I will have to speak twice before I get a response. I also have had to look online for how to fix some issues... it comes preset to have a lot of unnecessary crap pop up on the screen frequently (like suggestions, amazon related items, and other ridiculous tips and comments I doubt anyone cares about). Learned how to suppress those things pretty well so all I see is the essentials (to me). I have NOT been able to get it to make calls to friends/family with Echo Show devices like it is supposed to. Have followed the instructions perfectly but so far no success. For that reason ... MoreI really like the Echo Show 8. I love it life-changing

This was my fourth Echo device purchase. I have two Echo Show 5's, a 2nd generation dot, 4th generation dot and now this. We originally purchased an Echo Show 5 for our kitchen and I loved it so much, I decided to upgrade to the Show 8 and move the 5 to the living room. Luckily, the app makes it easy to change rooms for your devices because a lot of echo shuffling went on after that. It's not stereo quality of course but it's not bad either.It was super easy to set up. I'm talking suuuuuper easy. Other than plugging it in, I didn't have to do anything. I didn't even have to add my wifi password because I was able to set everything up before the device even arrived thanks to a setup email. I didn't buy a stand for it but it fits just fine where I set it. It's not wobbly or unstable. I don't use my echos for phone calls so I can't say how well that works. I also haven't used the camera on this one, nor do I really have any immediate plans to, so I can't attest to that either. I honestly use these mostly to control lights throughout the house as well as the TVs, create shopping lists, set reminders and timers, view the cameras we have set up outside, check to see who is at the doorbell, ask about the weather and use for entertainment purposes. Speaking of entertainment, I have had issues with it opening Netflix. This isn't isolated to this device though. It's something I've had issues with on all my echo shows. You can ask her to, and she'll say she did, but nothing happens. I need to play around with it but haven't had time yet. Obviously not a priority. Other than that, she opens Amazon Prime just fine (of course) as well as Tubi. What's really nice is that I was also able to open my YouTube TV via the internet and scroll through the live guide with no issues.I have Amazon Photos and have made albums specifically for the show. I just did one that is all Christmas backgrounds and it looks so festive! I love it! I've also used their nature one and really like it. The photos are beautiful, although you do get news bits and Alexa tips inbetween. That doesn't bother me. Some of the tips are interesting and the news bits are informative.All in all, I think it's plainly obvious that I love the Alexa devices, having 5 throughout my house now. I'm not even sure I will stop there as I have considered getting one for our shop/garage as well as my workout shed. Time will tell there, but if you like the dots, upgrading to the shows are totally worth it and I'd definitely recommend.

Smart digital frame plus a whole lot more

Purchased to replace an old Bose clock/radio. It has decent sound and voice commands are very helpful. The phone app is also useful in controlling from almost anywhere. Loading digital photos is confusing and the landscape orientation doesn’t work the best for portrait photos especially since I don’t like the cropping options. Occasionally it randomly shows side by side portraits which is nice but haven’t found a method to control or force the option over the cropping option that range from terrible to tolerable. Since it’s in our bedroom we keep camera lens closed but unfortunately the sliding cap is white on an all black echo show. Priced reasonably and overall not a bad purchase.

The Echo Show exceeded my expectations

What is a good for?

It has beautiful photographs that it’s displays among other irrelevant blinking information. I’m not sure what it’s meant to do. I bought it because I bought a ring doorbell. Delay is enough that the person at the disappears. I thought the doorbell would ring and I would see on the screen who was there but that’s not the case I have to wait and then I have to choose it, sometimes randomly it comes up in a small window and I have to expand it to see anything. I’m not sure what the purpose of this is. I was going to put it in my bedroom so I could hear the doorbell but The screen continuously shifts and lights up so it would keep me awake all night.
