Great product, loving the high def audio though Tidal, makes my low def files sound the best they have. Would like a faster OS & longer batt life. Very happy though & Minidisc we’re great to deal with

Sound quality of the standard ESS9038Pro DAC is very good.I needed a portable audio, for times when i have to travel and cannot enjoy my home audio system.The Astell & Kern SE180 offers a good comprises.Although there are more advanced models, like the SP3000.Of the 6 chips, only 3 is servicing the balanced audio. Hence paying a premium on hardware that doesn't get utilised.The SE180 has a removable DAC and amp. It is the only model that makes sense, as the quad core CPU is fast enough to support the UI and the display is bright and clear. It makes sense to reuse these components and just upgrade the DAC as technology progress.I'm not a big fan on the oversampling ESS Sabre based DAC, that utilise a less steep digital filter with fewer artefacts.If processing ... Good Dac/Amp sem2 Middle High and Bass Balance Good Sound
Having used and own several high end units, the se180 hits it out of the park. Currently using stock amp and the detail coming out of this unit is astonishing. Im waiting for the sem 2 amp to arrive. In the meantime grab one of these if your can. Its that good!

- Great DAC, awesome sound.- Interface is really slow and old. Navigation menu is really bad. Not intuitive, complicated and …. Soooo slow! To access Spotify or tidal you need to press 3 times from the home page.- wifi struggles to connect when iPhone is with full wifi connection next to it. You need to be really close to the router.- battery life are not good but ok for short usage. Battery are often empty if you don’t turn it off completely and it takes 1 min to restart the device.- an update is really needed…
