I've been using the Brilliant Retexturizing Gel for years on my curly hair. I use it with the Light Elements Defining Whip while my hair is still wet. I use about a quarter size amount of each,emulsify in my hands and work through my hair root to ends. I have short hair and this amount works great for my hair. I let it air dry while finishing up my makeup and then slightly diffuse to finish. It leaves my hair with perfect curl definition without leaving it feeling or looking crunchy. Looks just as good the 2nd day by just using a spray bottle of water to refresh! The most important thing to remember is Not to touch your hair while it's drying that will cause frizz!! Couldn't live without this product and it lasts a long time.

For curly frizzy hair that needs management, this product is great. It's a rather thick gel (think phlegm) that you have to smush around your palms and then apply throughout your hair or where you want control . It dries stiff but then just crunch your hair with your fingers. Your hair will be soft but controlled. It's been extra humid these past few days. This product won't keep your hair from curling if it's super curly but it will keep the frizz under control.

I did not realize I should pair this with the Phomollient to add additional hold to my twists. The best part for my natural, African-American hair is that there is zero alcohol! Whenever products contains alcohol denat. and other types of alcohol, it proves to be much too drying for black hair since our hair does not produce its own oil. Bottom line: I bought several because my twists last even longer and they're shiny and springy! Love it!!!

While I have quite a bit of hair (grateful for that!) it is fine. I typically style my hair using a round brush while blow drying. I only used a little bit of the Brilliant & unfortunately, it set very quickly, making it very difficult to style my hair the usual way. It was so bad, I could barely get a comb through it, after round brushing dry. Felt like it did more damage than good, as I had a lot of broken, ripped out hair from styling on the bathroom counter. Needless to say, the bottle (thankfully I purchased a travel size $6 just to try) hit the garbage can. Not sure why Aveda can't manage/master a medium hold. Purchased the ... I was looking for a "gel type" product. My hair is fine, but I have a TON of it, i needed something at would hold and structure but not weigh it down. This is perfect. A little goes a long way, hair has great texture (feels thicker), no sticky residue and my hair style lasts for ever. I can use this on day one with air control hairspray and it lasts all day, plus. By day three I need a little dry shampoo, but really- three days with fine hair and it looks great. I am hooked

I use be curly cowash as my shampoo, be curl conditioner, smooth infusion styling cream and then this gel for when I wear it curly. For me it works way better than the be curly styling products. Probably because I want to tame my curls more than enhance them. This gel is fantastic. Smells great, very little crunch, great hold and my hair is soft when I wake up in the morning rather than a rats nest. My only complaint is I wish there was a larger size. When I wear my hair straight (flat ironed) I still use the be curly cowash, smooth infusion hair mask, smooth infusion styling cream and smooth infusion naturally straight. I also like that the product is not too stiff and will hold the style all day, but still combs out leaving the great fragrance in your hair. My original tube is getting very low, so I ordered two new tubes, one for me, and the other as a gift for a friend. When I went to use one of the new tubes I immediately noticed the wonderful fragrance was no longer there, and it had a very subtle or non fragrance that was not even close to my old tube. Needless to say I was very disappointed, and too embarrassed to give the other tube to my friend since I was bragging about how good it smelled. It is very sad to have a company change their ... This is a nice product overall, but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. I have the same problem with the Brilliant Universal Stylying Cream. I will leave the tube sitting upright, and then when I go to use it there is a ton of product that has leaked into the cap. What a waste of product!
I stopped using the Shampure because you changed the formula and I come to find out that you did the same thing to the Retexturing Gel! This used to be the only thing I used on my hair. I noticed the smell was a little bit different but it's not like the original product. Aveda, stop messing with the original formulas. You're losing some loyal customers. I was a lifer with your products, now I need to go elsewhere and that makes me sad.
