I love these small ATEMs and I have 3 including this one. The best part of this thing is the suppersource. The other thing that I really love about this thing is the 2 HDMI outs and the 2 USB-C outs which was a drawback of the ATEM mini. I bought the ISO but it is really not necessary for me as I don’t really need to record large live events, if you do the ISO may be worth it but getting just one stream of recording is plenty for single use. One thing to keep in mind when using this thing is that it is a small computer so there are some limitations to how many things you can do at once with the Upstream Keys. For example, you can have only 1 flying key running at the same time and there are similar limitations to how many luma keys you can run at the same time. But this is by no means a deal breaker as you will have a hard time utilizing all that this ATEM has to offer.

This board, like pretty much every product I've ever dealt with from BlackMagicDesign, has several caveats. If you're leery of the brand, or just the amount of money being spent, think carefully before you purchase.Pros: It does everything you've heard it can do. 8 Camera plugins (that mostly work, more on that later), 2 microphone plugins, 2 USB-C outs, an ethernet jack, volume controls for each individual input, chroma and luma keys, transition affects, and even the software that you can install for free is pretty easy to use.Cons: I don't understand some of the problems with this board and why they haven't been addressed. Out of the box you'll find there is no on/off switch. Huh? Yeah, plug it in and it's on, unplug it and it's off. No big deal except this ... MoreThis board, like pretty much every product I've ever dealt with from BlackMagicDesign, has several caveats. Out of the box you'll find there is no on/off switch. Huh? Yeah, plug it in and it's on, unplug it and it's off. No big deal except this thing heats up pretty quick so you better turn it off (unplug it) when you're not using it. What is most frustrating about doing this is that it does NOT remember settings when you unplug it. Like a different fade transition? Better remember to always change to it when you turn it on. Have to adjust the gain/compressor/gate/volume settings on your mic channel? Better screenshot your settings or have a really good memory because everything goes back to zero when you unplug it. Always leaving a chroma/luma key on to overlay lyrics? Too bad, open the software every time you turn it on and turn the key back on.Which this leads into my next complaint specifically with the Extreme model. There are buttons for the chroma and luma keys ON the board. They don't work. Maybe mine is defective, but I have to go into the software to turn these features on/off. When I use the software, I do see the buttons on the board itself "light up" and I figured oh, I can just push those on from the board, but no they don't do anything, it's weird.Lastly, and this is very specific so it probably won't affect many people but it's still worth mentioning, is that if you have a PTZOpitics brand camera, you can't use slots 1 and 2. I plugged mine in, and had a green bar appear across the top of my image. Upon researching this issue I found on BlackMagicDesign's own forum support page, that this is a known problem and that you just have to plug it into a different port and it goes away. Annoying, and if you have 8 PTZOptics cameras you're going to take serious issue with this, but what really matters about this to everyone even if you don't have one of these cameras is the companies SERIOUS lack of support. I emailed them about this issue and their response was "Since it is a known issue, I would expect a fix in an upcoming firmware update." Upcoming?!? When is that? You "would expect" yeah that's not a guarantee. I've had previous correspondence with their support team (which take a week to reply by the way, for a company of their reputation I consider that pathetic) to which they are of literally no help or just simply say that it is just not compatible with my equipment (even though it should be) and therefore since it works with other equipment it is "working as designed."All these complaints and I still give it 3 stars and do recommend it. Why? Because it still CAN do what it's supposed to, it's just a pain in the rear-end with too many work-arounds that'll probably never get fixed due to lack of support. Coupled with the fact that other brands sell boards with less features for more money. I'm starting to think that while BlackMagicDesign really isn't making the best products persay, they have built the name they have simply because they can do more for less. That's the tradeoff. If you've got the money, I recommend a more reputable and stable brand, but if you're tight on cash and don't mind dealing with constant little issues, this will work, you just have to deal with it.

Blackmagic Mini Extreme is a must have if you want to take your production to the next level and keep up with this ever chaning media landscape. I would highly recommend it to anyone, it is very easy to set up all of the buttons make sense and are lined up for easy use. Great product
Have been using this and a MiniPro for two years now. No issues, these switchers are amazing. The Extreme adds more inputs, two outputs and two USB C connections. The super source is awesome. Flawless, silent, and reliable. Any time I've had questions, Blackmagic support has been available quickly and gotten me straight. Never had any issues, has always been user error (especially at first) or simply not knowing how to do something. I'm a blackmagic customer for life now.
We have been using obs and high end computer and camera for live-streaming but always have issue with computer overloading. With the atem mini extreme our live stream have been smooth. All the encoding is done by atem mini extreme . With so many features atem is a must have equipment for live-streamer. Make your like easy.
This switcher has some amazing features considering the price, but the streaming function is horribly glitchy. Over a three day show I experienced 7 instances where the switcher would freeze when trying to either start streaming or stop streaming. Neither software control nor the hardware button would respond. The only solution was to reboot the switcher. This was terrible in critical moments when moving from one stream key destination to another. It is easy to love everything else about this switcher, but be very careful depending on it for streaming unless you have a single stream destination and aren't dependent on timely on/off air transitions.

Once the country started opening back up fully, I decided to go ahead an unbox the ATEM Mini Pro in July 2021 and set it up for use. It was then when I realized that this device had some limitations for our needs. It was also at this time that I found out that Blackmagic Design released a new device, the ATEM Mini Extreme and after looking at all the specs, this device appeared to do everything we would need and then some. It has two USB outputs instead of one. It has two HDMI outputs instead of one and it is way more versatile and capable than any other ATEM Mini device. The main reason I am giving this review 5 stars is because I absolutely love this device and every day I learn something new that it can do but I also never shared how we got to this point and this is where B&H's customer service comes into play. A friend of mine and I were talking about the ATEM Extreme and he told me that he was able to exchange an ATEM Pro ISO that he purchased prior but was just outside the 30 day return period and he advised me to try and do the same so I started an e-mail string with Zev M. and they looked into it for a little while and after about two weeks got back with me allowing me to return the ATEM Mini Pro that we purchased 4 months prior in exchange for the ATEM Mini Extreme so I cannot say anything bad about this company because they go above and beyond to keep their customers happy. They definitely have a happy customer here. Thank you B&H!!!
I can't stress enough how much this (considerably affordable) device has improved both the quality and simplicity of my workflow. If you're considering, go for the Extreme and get all the added features. The buses are fantastic to have on the actual device, and the addition of macros makes doing really complex maneuvers happen in less than a second (and they're easy to write/record). Only wish there were more on-board macro buttons, but I think you can add lots more in the software. Gets a little hot, but a laptop cooler beneath it solved that for me. Love this thing!
I have been using the entry level ATEM Mini for the last 2 years. It has worked well for 3 camera and 1 laptop international Zoom set ups. But, I needed a way to record (not just record to Zoom) and a few other inputs for other cameras or computers. The ATEM Mini Extreme made this so smooth! I was able to record out to a 2TB SanDisk Extreme (which gave me 400+ hours of space to record!!) and use the second USB out to go the MacBook M1 Pro for a webcam. This set up allowed me to easily switch between 4+ cameras and 2 presenters laptops. The added PIP effects are nice as well. Happy with the purchase!
