I have managed to use the tent once since receiving it. The package arrived at the door in pretty poor condition, fortunately the contents did not appear damaged so I did not have to return it. The tent sets us easily enough. Its replacing my ten year old Coleman instant up tent. Its a big step up in quality (but three times the price). Its the same size but feels bigger inside as the walls are pulled tight. I love the awning. So far I am happy with it.

My wife and I had been dreaming about owning this tent for over a decade, so when we finally got one last year our expectations were high. We’ve not been disappointed! We have two young boys and have just finished camping our way from Canberra to the Sunshine Coast and back—a total of 13 nights in the tent with 7 set ups and pack downs. Here are my reflections: AWNING AND GROUNDSHEET. My favourite feature of this tent is the ‘inside/outside’ space created by the awning and groundsheet (which I highly recommend you purchase). Many tents can add poles to their front door and create an awning, but it’s not a true awning because you’ve got to pack it away to close the tent up properly. Many tents can add poles to their front door and create an awning, but it’s not a true awning because you’ve got to pack it away to close the tent up properly. With the turbo series, however, if it’s raining when you wake in the morning you can just step out onto your ready-made verandah! It’s also a great place to duck out of the rain if there is an unexpected shower. As the awning helps you escape the rain, the groundsheet helps you escape the dirt—a real winner with our two young boys. They can get out of the tent in the morning and faff around putting their shoes on, all without stepping on the ground. It rained a lot on our adventure to QLD and part way through the trip we bought a deluxe side panel for the awning. It made such a difference. Instead of huddling in the centre of the awning, amidst all of our kitchen gear (which would splash water on us if it were too close to the edges), we could push all of the gear up against the side panel and keep a clear, dry pathway to the entrance of the tent. It really made the awning a much more functional space in these wet weather scenarios. SET UP TIME. Without the fly, the tent goes up in about ten minutes. This includes clearing the site of rocks and branches and pegging out the groundsheet. To put the fly on and peg out the guy ropes takes about twenty minutes. So, from the moment you take out the tent bag to the moment you put it back into the boot, it’s a thirty minute setup. This is probably my only criticism of the tent—it’s not as quick to put up as you might think. Compared to previous models, it seems Black Wolf added two additional peg loops to secure the fly at each corner. This is an extra eight pegs to put in, making the total 19. This does not include pegging out the groundsheet (min. 9 pegs, max. 12), the windows (4 pegs), or a deluxe side panel (6 pegs). It sounds funny to be counting pegs, but honestly, it is the thing I notice taking up the most time. Fewer pegs = quicker set up. If I were designing a tent, I'd find a way to reduce the total number of pegs without reducing stability. All an all though, I highly recommend this tent. You won't be disappointed.

Id explore cheaper options first then perhaps purchase this tent once your used to the rigmorale of camping. Its heavy, when packed up with all poles and pegs in its bag, it's around the 25kg mark. The instructions aren't clear in some parts with regard to assembly and packing but let's face it, most aren't with tents and you could probably watch a you tube video explaining some extra steps and or tricks.Overall it's a tent for the more experienced camper with one or two kids who's looking to step up to a awesome tent.. You could sleep a heap of people in this tent, probably up to seven but then the comfort factor is gone. I've slept in mine in the wind and rain and it's held up extremely well.Compared to a oztent equivalent it's fantastic value considering you dont have to purchase additional flys for the roof. The only extra flys to buy for this tent are for the front awning and I have not seen the need to buy any yet. Lifetime warranty also: you can't beat that and if it's assembled and used properly the likelihood of needing to make a claim is unlikely.Be aware that the lite version of this tent is just that, a lite version: different materials of lower quality and perhaps less durability.

The tent was thoroughly tested in very rainy and windy conditions and didn't leak. The only issue we had was that the front side poles would sometimes come out of place when the wind lifted the front of the fly.I ended up tying extra ropes from the bottom of the poles to a centre tent peg, as shown in the photo. If it's windy, it's important to exactly centre the fly over the frame and secure the bottom corners of the fly at the 3 points provided, or you get a lot of flapping noise.
Bought this tent for a trip around Australia. It had 3 months daily use and set up and pack up every few days. Set up and pack up were both easy and it served well. I really liked they way the front of the roof has a higher pole in the middle to shed rain, it worked well in light rain.Would not like to have had it rain too much as the fly does not protect much of the walls, but up north in dry season it worked reasonably well. In calm weather it was convenient and practical size for our family as a master bed with dining/ kitchen prep area in the awning. The additional fly screen room worked for mosquito and fly protection when eating - even though its fit is not exact. However, I was not overly impressed with the way the fly flapped in the wind, once again I ... MoreBought this tent for a trip around Australia. Finally, towards the end or our trip, the zip for the front door started opening behind the zipper. When I contacted Black Wolf and Snowys about this, they said we must have put it up wrong and they would not honour the warranty. It may sometimes have been open when we pegged it but we never stretched it overly tight. I feel 3 months use in mostly fine weather was not too tough a test on this tent and it failed. We have followed the advice given and squeezed the zip, but it is still glitchy and annoying. Could be a really good product with a little more thought and longevity.
Though I haven't actually fully erected this tent I did erect the inner tent in the backyard. At over 20 kgs its duffel bag is heavy and cumbersome to carry any distance. I had trouble getting it out of the bag without damaging the bags zippers and though the bad could've been just a few centimetres longer or the zippers extend over the edge of the bag thus giving a much larger opening. It's a hard tent to wrestle out of the bag though once the ties are all undone this baby just pops up within one minute and is so easy to erect for one person. I am travelling alone and am aged 68 and was happy with it. I didn't want to go to the trouble of installing the fly cover but envisage no problelms with that. I am travelling alone and am aged 68 and was happy with it. I didn't want to go to the trouble of installing the fly cover but envisage no problelms with that. Breaking the tent down took me several minutes and was much harder work than the erection. As it seems with all camping gear it didn't quite fold down into the same size as it was before erection and therefore I had a more difficult time wrestling it back into its bag. This put more strain on the zippers as I heaved and pushed. It did go back in eventually but I was sweating a bit afterwards. The tent itself appears to be of good quality materials and workmanship and from my little test of it I feel confident it will give me good service, other than the times I have to break it down and pack it away. Will have to eat my WheatBix on that morning I think. I gave it 4 out of 5 because I don't know what problems/ease I might have had erecting the fly covering. I'd also bought the front and side panels but didn't install them and so don't know how they would have worked but I have confidence they would be satisfactory. As usual the Snowy's despatch team are second to none and the goods arrive much quicker than I expected. Snowy's is my first stop camping/outdoors shop and they usually come up with the goods.
I bought this to use predominantly with my 2 young kids. Absolutely stoked with it! Enough room to accommodate husband if he does come on our adventures. Used once so far for 3 nights. Copped pretty big winds and rain and it stood up very well. I didn’t find the walls to be as sloping as the other reviewer did so didnt need much gap to stop our pillows touching the wall. Very roomy and could stand up easily. The awning was terrific with the walls attcahed for keeping the wind and rain off us. Absolutely perfect set up and i hope it sees out my kids growing up years :) Oh and no problems for me setting it up on my own. I have now colour coded the corners of the fly/tent though for next time as I found the fly takes some working out which way round is the right way lol.
I purchased this almost five months ago and it has been constantly in use since then. I am a short (157cm) experienced female camper. This is definitely the best canvas tent of its size on the market but that's because there are very limited options. If you absolutely must have a canvas tent, I do recommend this tent. The design of the fly is a real problem. It does not handle high winds (or even moderate wind gusts) and acts like a kite. You cannot take off the fly in high winds as the guy ropes for the entire tent are attached to it. You will need extra guy ropes to peg down the three poles but expect your tent poles to take off. You cannot take off the fly in high winds as the guy ropes for the entire tent are attached to it. You will need extra guy ropes to peg down the three poles but expect your tent poles to take off. At one point I had ten guy ropes holding down the front of the tent. During one day of ferocious winds (the ten guy ropes failed) I had to resort to rolling up the front of the fly and tucking it inside the inner. So, invest in a lot of extra tent pegs and make them as long and large as possible and a lot of extra guy ropes. I scavenged some very hefty pegs from an old tent which I use to peg out the inner. You can pitch just the inner for short stays provided you are guaranteed of zero rain. Water not only comes in via the two air vents but also through the door zips. I know this from experience. You will never get the tent back in the bag once purchased but, given the weight, that's probably a good thing. The poles and fly (and the accessories I've bought: sides and front) go in the bag and I wrap the inner in a tarp and strap that together. I'm in the process of buying a separate bag for that. I definitely recommend buying some side panels. They are great for rainy and windy days (especially if it's dusty). I've noticed that the porch is a lot more stable during high winds with the sides up (go figure, you'd think the opposite would be true) as they tend to anchor the two side poles and prevent them being flung around the campsite. The pegs that come with these panels are too small and not fit for purpose. You want the heftiest pegs possible for the panels as any wind will rip them out. I have used the front panel when it's been peeing down but I prefer not to use it as I like a view and it just feels too claustrophobic for me (I bought the standard front and side panels without windows). It is absolutely possible to pitch the tent solo if you're small and female but I wouldn't recommend someone new to camping do this. You cannot push the frame up to pitch, you have to lock in the sides first. The fly requires quite a bit of effort to heft it over the inner. But with practise and patience it is manageable. Take your time, do some stretches, and if the weather is good, pitch it in stages. Get the inner up first, take a break, and put the fly up when you're ready. The door zips have been horrendous. The inner zip (door fly) has been sticky since day one and it died two weeks ago. I'm fending off mozzies while I wait for my screen room to arrive. I figured that was more cost effective (and less bother) than a zip repair. I was very disappointed that the zip failed as quickly as it did. The tent is not dustproof. The windows do not fully close (you can put them down but they are secured in the middle by a small piece of Velcro) and dust can freely enter when the bottom of the windows flap. The mesh for the windows and doors isn’t small enough to prevent this. Not being able to escape the dust has been a new experience for me as I’ve spent most of the last four decades in smaller hiking tents. It’s not a lot of fun. In summary, if you need a canvas tent this is your tent. But, be aware of the issues. Buy a lot of extra pegs and guy ropes and expect your poles to turn into missiles in high winds. If you're a short and inexperienced camper and need to pitch this solo think long and hard before purchase. I would definitely buy the side panels as they are great when it's windy and rainy. This tent is heavy and you'll need two separate bags for it. Start zip maintenance on day one (I wish I’d done this) to prolong the life of your zips. If you can see a dust storm coming your way, shelter in your car and expect a big clean up.
The turbo 300 replaced a lighter duty tent that couldn't take high winds. It's an ideal size for a family of four, with plenty of space, ventilation and durability.Putting it up is easy, as is packing.Do note this is a heavy duty touring tent and it is big and heavy. We have the fly and poles in a separate bag, making it easier to handle when travelling. Roof rack storage is necessary without a ute tray.Great quality all round and even the pegs are high quality.
love this tent- i picked up an older version second-hand. Black wolf has excellent customer support and warranty and even replaced some awning poles that had seized up on me. Have used this tent in all kinds of weather and never had any issues.Packing it is easy once you get the technique down- lay the whole thing down in a diamond with the poles in the middle and the tent filling out the two sides. Then tightly wrap from one side and over the other.Any downsides is the size & weight - can be tricky to get on and off the roof racks.Other than that has been excellent for 2 adults & 1 baby/toddler on our recent trips- would comfortably sleep 2 adults 2 kids.
