The very best taste always comes from using quality, freshly roasted coffee that’s ground right before you extract. Coffee is at its peak flavour potential between 5-20 days after roasting, so always buy beans with a “Roasted On” date printed on the bag. Buying beans with a “Use By” or “Best Before” date makes it impossible to know when these were roasted. Always use a quality burr grinder, and grind right before you extract, just like the very best cafes. The Dose Control Pro features 60 precise grind settings for the finest Espresso to the coarsest French Press grind. The precision electronic timer allows you to adjust grind time in 1 second increments for a controlled dose. The stainless steel conical burrs are designed to minimize grinding heat and protect the essential oils in your favourite coffee bean.

Compact, functional and reliable

I bought this coffee grinder to replace the exact same grinder I had purchased around 5 years ago, which finally gave up the ghost. I was happy with its performance having used it at least 5 times a day for 5 years straight and didn’t hesitate to replace it with the same model. We like its size, compact enough to fit in between the bench and shelf above it, and it offers excellent grinding settings and features. I like to avoid digital machines in case they break down and are not as easily repaired. This machine had no problems during its 5 year lifetime and proved functional and reliable with multiple daily use.

My mom bought one of these for espresso only. After about a year it could no longer grind fine enough for espresso, because of plastic internals wearing down. So, she bought a new one. That one broke down after a couple months, failing to grind courser than espresso, and now grinds neither fine, nor course grind coffee, and is useless. Only about 4 months of use.Even at peak performance the grind consistency, retention and such was not great, but it's a relatively cheap grinder, so to be expected. If you are going to buy this, because of brand loyalty or what have you, do not use it as both an espresso and coffee grinder. Regularly changing grind seems to be a death-sentence for this grinder.Positives: Pretty easy to break-down to clean and maintain. Is not the ... MoreMy mom bought one of these for espresso only. Very quick and easy to use. The available range for dose control and grind settings is all you would ever need, regardless of coffee preparation type. We use coffee plunger, percolator and espresso machine, and are able to set the grinder accordingly for each type. There is a small amount of static and some retention of ground coffee in the dispenser, but nothing too significant. Would highly recommend.

Good, with a few reservations
17 May 2023

Had this a few weeks now, and use it several times a day.I use it with a Sage duo temp pro.Pros: it’s highly adjustable and seems to have improved my espresso, without having made any changes to my method other than the new grinder. Previously used a cheaper Krups grinder.Cons: I’m having difficulty grinding fine enough. I’ve adjusted the top burr as suggested, I’ll try that again. After one burr adjustment, the grinder set on 1 still makes it too coarse. The other niggle is how much coffee spills out of the basket when grinding, and also collects on the arms of the plastic grinder cradle. I got the impression from the website that the whole point of grinding directly into the basket was to eliminate the previous faff of manually loading the basket. Great Grinder

So far I have found this grinder to be ever thing a grinder should be.It has a wide range of grind settings from ultra fine to course and the one second adjustment for grind time enables you to grind the exact required dose.It is also relatively quiet and easy to clean.I do recommend using a dosing funnel for a no mess grind. The Breville Pro Dose is ideal for anyone looking for a one dose grinder.

Great Grinder
29 January 2024

This is a great stand alone grinder. I find with the time on 9ish seconds I get an optimum amount for espresso . I adjust the grind between 13 and 15 depending on my bean . It works well in tandem with my bambino plus. I found that with the cradle I could not get the portafilter level which resulted with a spill at the back which is wasteful I find with a metal collar on the portafilter I can simply stand it on the tray at the bottom of the grinder. No waste and an easier tamp. It’s easy to experiment with time and grind with this machine and it’s surprising that small changes make such a difference to the smoothness and taste of the coffee. I enjoy using the machine and it helps me enjoy my coffee ritual !!

Great for value - get it on sale
6 June 2024

Grabbed this at 50% off, very happy with it. Took a while to dial in the settings for my machine and needs minor tweaking based on beans. It’s not super consistent every grind, but it’s never that noticeable. It does spit grinds beyond the portafilter at times onto the bench and portafilter holder, but the removable base makes cleanup pretty easy. It’s not perfect, but this is as good as it gets at this price point. The next step up for grinders gets rather expensive

Great, then failed due to plastic part wear

I bought this in June of 2016, so perhaps in a world where everything is meant to be thrown away I should consider myself lucky that this lasted so long. But I don't. I shop Breville because their design is so good, and their machines perform so well. I have a Bambino Plus Espresso machine, recently purchased, as well as an immersion blender also from Breville, and they are really excellent - so far.The issue with this heretofore excellent grinder, is that they back up the precision machined steel burrs with a cheap plastic impeller. After clearing mulitple jams, and doing some research online, I can now see the problem is this worn plastic part - it is meant to push the grounds into the chute, but when the edges wear, it no longer does so, causing a complete ... MoreI bought this in June of 2016, so perhaps in a world where everything is meant to be thrown away I should consider myself lucky that this lasted so long. For that reason I cannot in good conscience recommend it. Time to find a better brand for my small appliance needs.

Handy little machine, pity its not more durable.
18 December 2023

This is a good value for money machine for home coffee. This replaces my previous identical machine. They do wear out. A plastic "fan" which expels the ground coffee into shute to exit the machine wears. Its replaceable (See Youtube for advice/instruction video) but a complex job, time is money. Cheaper to buy a new machine.

Works well - plastic skin
8 January 2024

The grinder is great, but I was disappointed and surprised when I took it out of the box to find it's great plastic rather than metal like the coffee machine (also great). The photos online (even on the manual cover) aren't distinct enough to signal the difference. Even the (much cheaper) Cuisinart I replaced with it has a metal body. Anyway. Great grinder. Just doesn't look as nice on my counter as I'd hoped :)
