Amazing Searing Slow Cooker!

The Breville Searing 6L Slow Cooker is amazing! It's great to sear the meat and leave it in the slow cooker with all the succulent juices. This slow cooker is so versatile. I've tried salmon, pea and ham soup, lamb shanks and ribs in the few weeks since buying it. The pot isn't heavy and hard to clean like traditional slow cookers. The lid locking mechanism is great for keeping in the heat. Love the temperature settings. Absolutely love it!

I have no idea how I managed to find this cooker in a thrift store in the UK, since it appears it l isn't sold here. However, having said that I'm pretty pleased I did! I've used it daily since it came home, in place of using my hob. As you will see from the pic, I didn't actually need another slow cooker, the ones I have being sufficient for all sized family meals. However never having seen anything like this before over here - for a bargain price too - I just couldn't resist! I was delighted to find free online downloads for both opersting manual and recipes too, making it an even more attractive purchase. So far I've cooked potatoes (3 generous portions) in just 24m using the high sear function. Browned off meats, cooked crispy steak cut chips, and slow cooked ... MoreI have no idea how I managed to find this cooker in a thrift store in the UK, since it appears it l isn't sold here. In due course I will be making full meals in it, as I have always done with slow cookers, inc bread and cakes, once I've got used to it. It sits neatly and attractively on the worktop, and despite having greater capacity, it is actually a smaller footprint than the 5Ltr traditional slow cooker shown next to it...gets better and better! If I had any niggle it would have to be how on earth am I going to obtain spares at reasonable cost, at such point it needs them, since I know I'll run this (hopefully) long term?

I was really excited when this was gifted to me. I gave away my old slow cooker and within a week regretted it. This slow cooker just does not slow cook, it seems to just not reach a high enough temperature. I tried a few different meats and each time was a waste of ingredients as the meals were terrible. No bubbling, no nice smells in the house, just watery under cooked food, definitely no tender fall apart meat. As this was gifted to me I did not have the receipt to request a refund or return and after reading a lot of reviews this seems to be a common issue with this model. The concept of this appliance is wonderful and the sear function works great, the steamer is great but the slow cooker simply does not cook, so disappointed.

Doesn’t slow cook well at all.
28 November 2021

I bought this slow cooker from Harvey Norman a while back as it was bigger than my old slow cooker and had the searing function. The first time I used it, I was making lamb shanks and had guests over for dinner. I cooked them according to the directions and they were still tough and not falling off the bone as they usually do when I’ve used my old slow cooker. I stopped using it for slow cooking for a while and just used the steamer function (that works at least) and used my old slow cooker. I tried it again tonight and even cooked my shanks on high for 6 hours and they still didn’t fall off the bone. It is very disappointing. I’m giving it to good will.

Good from afar but far from good
23 May 2022

The unit itself worked well, the searing function and the slow cooking functions were easy to use and did a great job. The insert was a good quality non-stick however the stainless steel finish outside was stained when I opened the box, we have since returned the item as the finish was so poor. We opened 2 more boxes in store and both units had the same poor finish. The good guys gave us a full refund, Ill either buy another one if these units or try a different brand. It needs to look good as well as function correctly. Another point that loses a star, the handles on both sides of the insert bowl have a sliding lock type thing, great if you want to have the lid just a little open to let steam out, but very difficult to clean, one splash of sauce and its impossible ... MoreThe unit itself worked well, the searing function and the slow cooking functions were easy to use and did a great job. Love the all-in-one cooker!
10 June 2021

It sears, it browns, slow cooks, steams, does yoghurt!! it has a wide range of settings, cooks things beautifully. I read the whole manual and was amazed at how many things I could do with the one appliance! It stays on my counter full time now! I love it. Worth the money. Easy clean up. Timer and safety functions ensure a fuss free cooking experience. I can walk away and get absorbed in something and I know that the cooker will let me know when it's done. Highly recommend! Delicious aromas fill the kitchen, like I remember Mumma's Crockpot used to do.. but this appliance will do so many more things for you than the traditional slow cooker. Very happy with the quality, the finish is great, the digital display is easy to read, easy to set. Best thing is you can use it like a frypan you do not have to separate and take the inner pan to a stovetop like all the others have to. That's what won me over with this appliance! Am I a fan Absolutely. So glad I invested in it. Happy cooking. Susie

Old slow cooker model vs the new one
24 August 2021

I bought this product to replace my older Breville Slow Cooker that had an insert that I used on the stovetop to sear meat. We recently updated the cooktop to induction which meant I couldn’t use it on the new cooktop. I’ve found that the new slow cooker although easy to program is cumbersome to go through all the menu items to get to the slow cook one. The searing option takes a long time to heat up and doesn’t really reach high sear for 15 minutes. The high slow cook temperature doesn’t seem to be as hot as the older model. Even though technology can be good I find the old dial type set up to be easier to program. The new cooker is however a good large size.

Searing slow and so disappointed
24 April 2022

Before purchasing this cooker I read several reviews. I thought to myself this can’t be as bad as reviews people had written. I always purchase Breville first and normally really happy BUT this time after owning it for 2 weeks all I can say is I’m not happy, very annoyed and going to try to get a refund. This cooker is not what it could or should be. Searing very slow, cooked a slow cook beef, meat and veg still uncooked after 8 hours. Carrots and celery still hard. Then I tried a slow cooked pulled pork it was terrible!!! I’ve owned a slow cooker for 33 years of married life, I’ve had 2 over those years and the cheaper brands. They were wonderful and never failed me. Could someone from Breville get in touch with me as I don’t want to go on and say more to rubbish ... MoreBefore purchasing this cooker I read several reviews. Very good slow cooker
2 June 2022

This is a great slow cooker. I love that you can sear and saute everything in the pot so you keep all the flavours in. The steam function is great. The timer is perfect so you don't need to be home when the cooking time is up, it goes to warming automatically. My only issue is that the low setting when you slow cook for 8 hours doesn't get hot enough. I can't get the meat to that fall apart, pulled consistency. It's just rock hard. If I used the high setting for 8 hours it works. The high setting is not hot enough to reduce the cooking time to 4 hours.

returned it and exchanged for another item
8 March 2023

I bought this one and was totally disappointed. At first I thought it was me and then came to realize that it was actually the cooker. Its terrible, takes forever to cook anything on slow or fast cook. My old cooker worked way faster than this updated model. I then read reviews from others who had bought this particular cooker and found so many people who were saying the same thing. Ive returned it and and exchanged for another. I am hoping when I get around to using it that i have better luck with this one.
