Builtin grinder One drawback of having a grinder separate to your machine is that ground coffee can sit inside the grinder and lose its vitality prior to extraction. An integrated grinder means your coffee is extracted immediately after it is ground, preserving all the oils for a rich crema. There s a unique grind setting to accommodate every type of roast. Choose your coffee size This machine features buttons for producing both single and double shots. A single shot of coffee is 30 ml, so a double shot will give you a 60 ml of espresso for when you need that 3pm pickmeup. You can select your setting and then walk away, as the machine will automatically stop once the appropriate volume has been extracted. Preinfusion Forget the idea that water can only dilute. This coffee machine is programmed to release small spurts of water prior to the pouring of each shot. Although subtle, this process of preinfusion primes your ground coffee for optimum espresso extraction, resulting in a richer cup of coffee that is crowned with a full, flavoursome crema. Pressure gauge While pressure itself is not a variable in producing a fine cup of coffee, an awareness of how much pressure is behind your extraction will allow you to become more consistent in your brewing. By looking at the pressure gauge on your machine, you will know if your grounds are appropriately compressed or if you need to change your grind setting.

I bought this back in 2018 to replace a K-cup coffee maker. I was so tired of the annual heating element failures that seem to plague every brand of k-cup maker we bought. Finally decided to stop messing around and go for this Barista Express. My wife and I have made espressos, and lattes with our machine every day, several times per day, for the last 4 years. It still works as well as the day we bought it. About 1 year ago, we had our first and only part failure, the group head silicone seal that only cost about $5.00 to replace (ordered direct from Breville). The week we spent waiting for the seal to arrive, we couldn't use our machine. We broke out our Miele K-cup maker as a fill-in... we then realized we had become coffee snobs as both of us had to just pour out ... MoreI bought this back in 2018 to replace a K-cup coffee maker. We tried Starbucks but that was just as bad as the K-cup coffee. It was a day of celebration when our group head seal arrived. I've since ordered a second seal just so we don't have to wait if that seal should give out again. Just to be clear, this seal is expected to wear out and be replaced. This is not a faulty part, it just got used up. The day our Breville fails hard is the same day I will be out buying a brand new one. What a great product and breath of fresh air in this day and age of short-life kitchen fashion machines that look pretty but are built to the lowest quality they can get away with - looking at you, Kitchen Aid and Viking.

Decent Home Barista Machine

Used it for 3 weeks, and finally got the grind right and the extracted espresso taste beautiful! The reason it has an average rating is mainly because the machine sometimes take a few tries to get the steam wand working after making multiple espresso. Steam wand pressure is a bit lower than expected, hence frothing milk takes longer. Also, the tip of the steam wand is not removable which makes cleaning the tip of the steam wand a bit harder. (Normally you can get a screw on tip).Another thing I find a little bit annoying is the drip tray has lesser capacity than expected. We have 5 people in our house and normally I have to tip it after the 4th cup (this includes purging after each extraction and frothing). This would be a perfect machine if we can make espresso ... MoreUsed it for 3 weeks, and finally got the grind right and the extracted espresso taste beautiful! The reason it has an average rating is mainly because the machine sometimes take a few tries to get the steam wand working after making multiple espresso. Great, When It Works

I have had my Barista Express for over a year now, originally purchased from Williams & Sonoma. I love this little espresso machine and use it every morning! My biggest complaint and one that makes this machine almost unbearable is the fact that every time I change out the beans, it suddenly cannot pull shots. I specifically buy espresso beans for machines, clean it regularly (descaling, filter etc) and have no issues AT ALL until I change out the beans. It takes me going through half a new bag of beans to mess with the knobs to find the right setting and sometimes it never pulls shots at all. The frustrating part is when I try to switch back to the original beans, it suddenly doesn’t work with the old beans either even though it had worked perfectly fine with ... MoreI have had my Barista Express for over a year now, originally purchased from Williams & Sonoma. For something that almost costs $1000, I would expect it not to be so finicky. i bought this machine to save money on my espresso drinks (Starbucks every morning is expensive), but trying to figure out this issue has me going through an entire 30$ of beans with no pulled shots. If I could do it over again, I would have spent a little more money for a barista machine that was more consistent.

Yes - this machine is the perfect balance of manual and automation for the home barista. You get to pick your grind coarseness, tamping pressure, pretty much everything. The best part: it's all a breeze. As an older millennial I do enjoy my morning avo on toast with a beautiful coffee. I might actually finally afford to buy a house as this machine now eliminates the need for those overpriced almond cappuccinos and avolattes. You can do all at home, without waiting on a queue, without dumping coffee cups into the environment, and just cuddling with your cat next by the fire in a cold winter's day. ;)The pump is spot on. I'm quite picky on pressure and when you find the balance for your coffee beans type, you're set! -- coffee purrfection right there. The steamer wand does give you good, hot steam and not watery stuff as other machines, meaning that you can froth that milk exactly how you like it and/or perfect your technique over time as it is very consistent.Impress your guests, girlfriend, boyfriend, or anyone with an amazing cup of coffee, right at home. The build is great, durable and no cheap-O parts. The magnetic hold on the tamper and on the dipping tray shows the level of craftsmanship that went into this machine.Having everything to fit in such a small footprint is great. I have a small kitchen and the machine doesn't take any valuable space from us. I used to grind coffee beans by hand with a manual grinder and it took quite a while, plus setting the grind coarseness was a bit of a pain. Not with this machine. The portafilter is also of great quality. I had other machines from other brands with a light, lower quality one that would simply not allow for good results. It is important that it's made well as the shape, materials and overall build will yield different results. You can use a knockbox without fearing of breaking it (I've done it in the past). The portafilter will also remain warm, ready for your next cup.It could hold more water, it could have the option to be plumbed in, but at this price point it is an insanely strong contender, if not the best one of its level. Great quality at a great price. I've seen some people with this one for more than 4 years, without any problems. So if you're thinking about it, don't think twice. If you like coffee, it's an investment with a very short payback period when compared to spending $5 per coffee.

Where do I start!?If you want a quick coffee, or prefect your latte art, or anyrhing in-between, this machine is for you. Its gracefully designed, compact and a statement pieces for any kitchen. 10/10 would recomend.I am a barista, I love coffee. It's an art, a love language, and a passion.I've previously owned an espresso machine that did not have a hopper/ grinding feature... it is 100% worth the additional cost.If you're not sure, I'll remind you that you get what you pay for. Having owned a less expensive espresso machine with less "bells and whistled", I was a I was a little intimidated by the features, but having used this machine, I'm so excited about, and thankful for the upgrades. Literally seconds of recovery between steaming/hot water and pulling shots (this helps keeping your drinks at a Cafe level tastyness). This machine is very user friendly, easy to set up, and a breeze to clean. I cannot speak more highly of it. My only hang up is that a black & copper color isn't offered, but the performance of this machine has me forgetting it doesn't match my kitchen perfectly.Additionally, customer service is top knotch! My machine was purchased through a third party and I had an issue. They offered kind trouble shooting over the phone, answered all my questions, and made me feel confident I had set everything up correctly. They quickly replaced what was necessary, providing a return label and apologizing for the inconvenience.Safe to say I'm a life long customer, now.

Wonderful little machine wrapped in excellent customer service

I bought this machine several months ago. I was having an issue with the steam knob and reached out to the Breville support team. They were unbelievable. They replaced my machine so now here is my review after a few months of using the new one.First and most importantly, it makes amazing coffee! The crema that you get from this machine is just lovely! It is easy to use and the dial in the middle makes it easy to know if you are doing things right. I know they have more automatic models, but I am a bit old fashioned and want to be somewhat involved in the coffee making process. The machine is easy to clean and as a reminder, you should read about descaling the unit and cleaning the portafilter regularly. As a bonus, if you register your machine with Breville, they give you zoom class where they discuss how to use your machine to get the best results. If I had to critique anything it would still be the steam knob. This one is easier to turn but if I had to design the machine, I would replace the steam knob with a button. (I also own the smaller Bambino machine and I find that much easier on the hands. The Bambino is missing the grinder so I would still stick with the Barista Express as that grinder is awesome!)

my FAVORITE purchase of the last two years

I bought this product two years ago and still use it every day. This is the best price for an espresso machine with all the necessary parts included (grinder, espresso, steam wand). I worked as a barista for years, and I love that I can make all the coffee drinks I want right in my apartment. I use this machine for my daily morning coffee, afternoon tea lattes, and when I entertain guests. (And it’s saved me so much money on my monthly coffee bill!)I love that the milk wand is manual because it allows me to texture my milk just the way I like it. This machine pulls delicious shots and allows for a lot of customization in grind size or amount. The pressure gauge is very helpful in tweaking your settings to make sure you’re pulling great shots. The grinder has a sizable capacity and can store 2-3 weeks worth of beans. The included cleaning cycles are very thorough, and the indicator lights help keep me on a regular maintenance schedule.Breville’s included one-year warranty is also great. I had an electrical issue 9mo in, and Breville honored their warranty and fixed my machine at no cost. It’s been working perfectly ever since. I really value when a company stands by their product! If you’re a newbie or, like me, a barista who wants to have lattes at home, you can’t beat this. Cheaper models require you to buy grinders or milk wands separately (trust me, you’ll want them all together), and more expensive models add a lot of automation that isn’t worth the money. If you want a machine to consistently make awesome espresso drinks, this is it.
