The new model BCG200 is larger all round and hence occupies more pantry shelf space which is an inconvenience and is a waste of materials over the smaller CG2B. The top does not screw or fit on to the rim securely for better kitchen handling, as Breville has replaced the separate on/off button on the CG2B with a push down action on the BCG200 lid, activating 3 power switches placed around the rim. An improved top plastic moulding could easily have included a twist action tab and groove to secure the lid assembly during transit (without depressing the power switches). Ground coffee needs to go in to the machine, not be washed away by unit cleaning. The previous CG2B model was a very easy unit to clean and my unit worked for 12 years until the power cord wires broke where it came out of the base (always a flawed design, with no supporting grommet). Breville could have continued the CG2B with confidence; it was a great small grinder.

Never missed a beat. It is so simple to clean and due to it's compact size, packs away neatly. If it ever does wear out in the years ahead, I hope that Breville will still be making them because I'll go straight out and buy another one.I have recommended the machine to other friends who just wanted to grind coffee and those who took my advice are also very happy with their purchase.Over the course of many years, we have learned that Breville products are great quality and excellent value for money. The Coffee & Spice is a prime example. Thank you.

This little grinder is terrific value. I use it for herbs/spices/seeds/fried coconut etc. For the price it is very good. The grind mechanism is blades (not burr) so ground coffee beans are somewhat inconsistent. Depending on what type of coffee maker you have a burr grinder (at much higher cost) may be more suitable. I think this would be ok for plunge coffee makers and the like - but not really suited for espresso makers.

Pros:Can grind really hard spices and even salt to powder like consistency.Easy to use and clean.Very quick.Cheap and really good value as a grinder for spices. Can last years if properly used.Cons:The blades can snap of if you overuse it quickly. The plastic cover can break easily if dropped by accident.Overall:Great little grinder and good value for money. If you need to grind hard spices and coffee beans into powder this is the one for you.
This is a very basic grinder. If you have any inclination to make GREAT coffee, this grinder will NOT help you achieve that goal.Yes, it’s simple to use, but the grind is inconsistent, and without any sort of levels or gauges, it’s impossible to create a truly even grind. If you want a very find grind, just hold the lid down for ages until the whole thing is powder… but if you want anything other than dust, forget about it. Sure, you can grind for less time, but you won’t get a consistent coarse grind - some of it will be powder, but there will still be big chunks in it.I would NEVER buy this grinder again, or recommend it to anyone. The reason I gave it 2 stars is because the removable grind container is handy to clean, but not worth it in the end.
Having never had a coffee bean grinder before I can't compare this one to any other. However, it did the job. And it made the kitchen smell inviting. The push down lid for accurate timing was a good feature.I certainly won't be grinding just enough for one cup of coffee, which means that putting too many beans in for one grinding can lead to unevenly ground down powder.
I bought this grinder only 2 months ago therefore can’t comment on its durability. However, it seems to function quite well when I used it to grind dry spices. I normally dry-roast spices on very low heat prior to grinding, that gets rid of any moisture and make spices brittle (and also fragrant), hence easy to grind in fine powder. It’s small size suits me as I like to grind only small batches of spices to maintain freshness.I have several Breville appliances in my kitchen and have always been happy with them. I’m sure this little grinder will also give me trouble free service.
Love it! The detachable cup won me. Easier to clean and pour the content into a container. Powerfull motor and not too noisy. Ground my coffee every morning without fail. The lid feels a bit fragile though. Haven't dropped it yet, hopefully never.A must for coffee lovers.
We have several Breville products (water jug, coffee machine, etc.) and are Very happy with those. So when our old trusty spice grinder died we've decided to buy this coffee and spice grinder from Breville. This was a mistake and we've hardly used it since we bought it about a year and a bit ago. This is a spectacularly bad product design. The fact that one can't just turn the grinder on but has to stand there with the hand on the lid is a bit inconvenient but not a deal breaker. The problem is the grinder doesn't seal and every time one uses it a huge mess is created during grinding (small particles and powder escape from under the lid). Upon lifting the lid a whole lot more of the contents spills out onto the benchtop - the rim is covered in spice and the lid is ... Upon lifting the lid a whole lot more of the contents spills out onto the benchtop - the rim is covered in spice and the lid is full of it. It is impossible to avoid the mess and the wastage. This is a very poor, badly designed, impractical product. It is a mystery to me how this product has passed any sort of quality and functionality test. It's not an overly expensive product but In my opinion every cent is wasted. Very disappointed.
Got it out of the box, read the instructions, made sure all the locking mechanisms were set properly, put some spices in, No Go! - The appliance would not start. Checked cords, tried different power points, checked locking mechanisms again. Not a thing. Very simple to use - just doesn't do any thing. Back to the shop....
