Breville The Coffee & Spice Grinder

The new model BCG200 is larger all round and hence occupies more pantry shelf space which is an inconvenience and is a waste of materials over the smaller CG2B. The top does not screw or fit on to the rim securely for better kitchen handling, as Breville has replaced the separate on/off button on the CG2B with a push down action on the BCG200 lid, activating 3 power switches placed around the rim. An improved top plastic moulding could easily have included a twist action tab and groove to secure the lid assembly during transit (without depressing the power switches). The cord storage space in the base is inadequate for the length and the side exit groove in the base does not hold the cord in place during transit. The cord storage space in the base is inadequate for the length and the side exit groove in the base does not hold the cord in place during transit. Finally, the internal shape of the lid moulding allows coffee grinds to remain in place, only being removed cleanly with a small pastry brush (not supplied). Ground coffee needs to go in to the machine, not be washed away by unit cleaning.The previous CG2B model was a very easy unit to clean and my unit worked for 12 years until the power cord wires broke where it came out of the base (always a flawed design, with no supporting grommet). Breville could have continued the CG2B with confidence; it was a great small grinder.

I make spice powders, including Ginger, Turmeric, Smokey Capsicum, Garlic, Onion, Chilli, etc, etc. I process all the products and dehydrate them before grinding and sifting them and packaging into jars.I needed a very robust, and durable grinder, with enough power to cope with the rigors of grinding all those products, in quite substantial quantities.I looked online and bought cheap grinder after cheap grinder Some of them worked well and others were hopeless. It is so simple to clean and due to it's compact size, packs away neatly.If it ever does wear out in the years ahead, I hope that Breville will still be making them because I'll go straight out and buy another one.I have recommended the machine to other friends who just wanted to grind coffee and those who took my advice are also very happy with their purchase.Over the course of many years, we have learned that Breville products are great quality and excellent value for money. This little grinder is terrific value. I use it for herbs/spices/seeds/fried coconut etc. For the price it is very good. The grind mechanism is blades (not burr) so ground coffee beans are somewhat inconsistent. Depending on what type of coffee maker you have a burr grinder (at much higher cost) may be more suitable. I think this would be ok for plunge coffee makers and the like - but not really suited for espresso makers.
