A New Joy to Ice Cream making.

This machine is a great step forward over my old machine expecially the ability to preset firmness of the ice cream. I feel the breakdown of my previous machine which gave me such joy was perhaps a blessing in disguise. Great product. Heavy and worthwhile having a dedicated spot in the kitchen for it so you don’t need to pull it out from anywhere when you want to use it. I’ve only made dairy free ice cream using coconut cream/milk etc but works well. The only downside is that if you don’t put the maximum liquid in it clumps in the middle and then the outside of the bowl doesn’t really read at what stage the ice cream is at. So the auto function doesn’t really work great when this happens. If you put enough ingredients in to fill the bowl up more it works very well.I would also recommend getting an extended care plan from myer if you get it which is only around $55.

I am an experienced icecream maker. My husband just bought me this machine as an upgrade to my $60 icecream maker with frozen canisters. I’ve tried this Breville maker three times this week and every time the machine takes over an hour to churn and the end result is a semi frozen mixture that is not creamy. Tonight I used this machine and my existing machine side by side and my existing machine with frozen canisters was finished churning in a fraction of the time and the finished product was a creamy, smooth deluxe ice cream. The breville set to the hardest setting after over an hour left me with a loose cream/ice consistency. I had to transfer the contents to my old machine to finish churning and hope to recover the mix. I intend to return this ASAP.

Great Ice Cream; Hard to Deep Clean
7 December 2022

I've owned this machine for about a year and a half, and I use it a lot. I switched from the Kitchen Aid attachment to this machine because I often make several batches over the course of a day or two, and it was not practical to wait for the attachment to refreeze for a day or two between batches. This machine makes delicious ice cream, and it is very easy to use. My only complaint, is that the metal rod that turns the tub is not removable or cleanable. If you own, or purchase this machine, you will inevitably have ice cream that gets into that mechanism, and a disgusting, black, oozing gunk will form. Although it does not seem to come into contact with ice cream in the tub, it is gross, and I want to be able to clean it thoroughly.

Love it. Made too much ice cream now. Freezer full

I have made so much ice cream with this. I love that you don't have to re-freeze a bowl and I can make multiple batches and flavors in one go. Only down side is the bucket can only hold a little less then a litre. I would have liked it a little bigger and it's a little tricky to get the ice cream out after a churn. Otherwise, it's quick, it's relatively quiet, there's a hatch and bell rings to tell you when to add mix-ins. It's great

OK machine, Barely does the job, Let down by weak motor.

Bit of a love/hate relationship with this machine. Overall this seems to be a pretty well-built machine, with a pretty slick design as most ice cream machines are pretty ugly hunks of metal. It has lasted 5 years and its abilities have not diminished.I found the automatic setting to be pretty gimmicky and misleading as the ice cream struggles to reach an appropriate level of hardness. I don't think a machine of this price should require you to store the ice cream in the freezer to harden, it should be able to achieve a decent hardness level on its own.The motor does not have adequate power to mix the ice cream too much over the level of what realistically speaking would be "frozen yoghurt" which is slightly disappointing given that the automatic function ... MoreBit of a love/hate relationship with this machine. I don't think a machine of this price should require you to store the ice cream in the freezer to harden, it should be able to achieve a decent hardness level on its own.The motor does not have adequate power to mix the ice cream too much over the level of what realistically speaking would be "frozen yoghurt" which is slightly disappointing given that the automatic function indicates that it can go beyond that. More often than not, I will hear the motor struggling to push through the mix before it has actually reached a servable level of hardness.I also found that tried and tested recipes with lower fat contents such as the ones for frozen yoghurt or gelato etc are not suitable for this machine, and that the end result is overly icy, unpleasant to eat and very runny out of the machine. It does however do a good job with egg-based/custard type recipes which I've had to tailor to the capabilities of this machine. On a side note, the lid design is quite flimsy and has been replaced after breaking. I think this is a common issue, Be careful when opening the flap on the lid.In summary, I am impressed that the machine still works after 5 years (although it hasn't been used heavily) but I am disappointed that the motor is severely underpowered and will struggle to churn to what most people would consider a decent level of hardness. I would love it if there was an option to upgrade to a stronger motor, as without it, the automatic hardness settings are a bit misleading for they cannot be acheived.I can't say I could recommend this product, as its attractive design isn't quite enough to make up for its capabilities. I think Breville is pretty close to domestic appliance perfection with this one, but the issue with the motor is a real letdown.

Quality is not worth the price

I was so excited to buy Smart Scoop but got dissappointed when I tried to make my first homemade ice cream. I chose auto mode and picked the hardest ice cream setting, everything was going well untill the ice cream started to get harder. I heard a loud grinding noise, similar to gears grinding in a car’s transmission, and ice cream machine started to warm up. I stopped the machine and waited for a bit, then resumed the churning process. Soon the sensor of ice cream hardness went down from gelato to sorbet) and then the same thing happened. It seemed that too much stress was being placed on the motor. At first I thought that maybe I did something wrong but I used different recipes (from Sage ice cream book) but the outcome was always the same. I never got hard consistency ice cream because the machine at some point always starts to do that grinding noise (blades can't turn around properly). Quality js not worth the price or my machine is faulty. I found that people experience same problem as me. Im adding a video which i found in the internet. The sound I get is the same, though it gets to a point where the blades barely even move and the machine warms up a lot

On the spur of the moment I purchase The Smart Scoop and it was the best thing I've done for ages. The box arrived late the other day and I couldn't wait to try it.The next morning I made my first batch of ice cream - Raspberry Ripple. It was so easy to make, easy instructions to follow, and in no time it was ready to eat or freeze for later.I froze it but not before I tucked into a few delicious spoonful's.I'd recommend the machine to any ice-cream lovers. It's simple to use and the ice-cream consistency is perfect.I've since made my 2nd batch - this time without eggs to see the difference. Can't decide which I like best.

I purchased this ice cream maker for my husband for Christmas, and we've only ever made one thing over and over again. Lemon Sorbet. We've modified our recipe slightly to include other juices, but we're in love with this dang thing. In fact, I'm the type of person that likes a clean counter so I intended to prompt place this in the cupboard after our initial batch and to bring out on special occasions. But no. This guy has been on our counter and in use since we opened the box. We've given sorbet to our friends and family... while still eating sorbet nearly every night ourselves. Oo, we're getting better!), and much healthier than buying a flavor off the shelf.Oh, and we laugh EVERY time we hear the "ice cream truck" song. A silly-smart touch that gives you a smile as you run to the machine to get your first taste. Might be a little more spendy than a trip to the actual ice cream truck, but #worthit.
