I give the binoculars 5 Stars: the image stabilization is phenomenal as is the image quality. What I don't care for is that I bought pair of Nikon Monarchs that just feel like they are better quality. The Nikons came with 4 lens covers (pair for the ocular and optical lens) that stay attached when removed, the EXPENSIVE Canon came with only 1 pair for the ocular lens that only fully remove, so they could be lost. I also worry about the rubbery grips on the Canon that have been blasted for longevity. Only time will tell how long mine last. Not sure if it's in my head, but I can see how that material can diminish.Did I mention the IS is fantastic?! It is. THE binoculars are great, but there are many things that my lesser expensive NIKON's did much better.

I’ve had these binoculars for a couple of years now and absolutely love them! If all of my observation equipment, I use these more than anything else. I can easily take them anywhere and I frequently use them to identify objects to look at later with a telescope. The image stabilization feature is fantastic and word very well so that I can easily get away with the 18x magnification. The glass is clear without any aberration providing a crisp clear view. Love them!

My very first IS binos. Absolutely incredible. These units are high power so would be worthless without IS or a tripod and a tripod would be a detriment to functionality. I was so impresses that I bought the 12x36 version for my bird watcher wife. She's even more impressed than I am. There are many negative comments about the rubber coating turning to goo after a period. I hope this does not occur obviously but that would be the ONLY thing I could complain about. I have top end Nikon, Boush & Lomb, and Swarovski binos. These out perform them all.

Buy it for the image stabilization, not the optics. The glass is just not very good with lots of purple fringing and just okay brightness and color. The Canon IS binoculars are all over the place in terms of quality. My go-to bino is the Canon IS 15x50's. They are consistently great. But some of the models are ungainly to use and some are not worth the $$$. The one Canon IS with good glass, the 10x42 WP's are not comfortable or ergonomically well designed. But for sure you can't beat the Canon image stabilization system.
These have been around for a long time, and I'm guessing Canon have improved the optics over the years (like using better coating, etc.).It's something technology oriented companies do, especially in Japan (called Continuous Quality Improvement - CQI).They are very sharp, edge to edge (flat image), no purple fringing (except maybe slightly at the edges), no ghosting, good colour reproduction, decent contrast, minimal distortion etc. It's really difficult to complain about the optical performance.Yes, they are not as bright as Swarovski, and offer narrower field of view, but it's not a fair comparison.Unfortunately the IS wasn't updated over time, since I assume it will require a complete redesign of the binoculars; so the result is not impressive; they only ... MoreThese have been around for a long time, and I'm guessing Canon have improved the optics over the years (like using better coating, etc.).It's something technology oriented companies do, especially in Japan (called Continuous Quality Improvement - CQI).They are very sharp, edge to edge (flat image), no purple fringing (except maybe slightly at the edges), no ghosting, good colour reproduction, decent contrast, minimal distortion etc. It's really difficult to complain about the optical performance.Yes, they are not as bright as Swarovski, and offer narrower field of view, but it's not a fair comparison.Unfortunately the IS wasn't updated over time, since I assume it will require a complete redesign of the binoculars; so the result is not impressive; they only compensate for small shakes; modern IS binoculars can do 2-3 degrees but these only around 0.7 degrees. It's still effective, and helps a lot, especially with the 16X magnification, but I do wish they had more effective IS.Build quality is superb!Focusing knob is large, very smooth and accurate. The infamous rubber eyecups are not as bad as people say.Lastly, they are not fully waterproof, they can still be used in the rain, but they are not at the level of other modern binoculars, which are not only IPX7 sealed but also have Nitrogen gas inside that prevents fogging. So overall, they are a mix of fantastic optics, superb build quality, proven reliable design, but lack modern features like better stabilization, being complete waterproof, and fog proof. It's only a matter of intended use whether to get these or other IS binoculars; the superb 18X/50mm optics is a huge plus for sure, but using these on a mobile platform, or a boat or at extreme weather conditions can be more challenging.
I bought these as a Christmas present mostly for my wife (thus the smaller version/lighter weight) because of the frustration I've observed with her use of lesser products. She has never experienced the joy of large aperture, flat field, pro optics.Combined with my decades-long experience with Canon's vari-angle prism I.S. tech and their follow-on technologies, I KNEW if purchasing something this expensive, I would do it from Canon.I am not at all disappointed in this product:If I were buying JUST for me, I would have gone with with one of their more expensive models with higher magnification AND a larger aperture primary lens.Focus is crisp, easy, very flat across the field of view, and then when holding the IS button, the stabilization is so obvious and ... MoreI bought these as a Christmas present mostly for my wife (thus the smaller version/lighter weight) because of the frustration I've observed with her use of lesser products. She has never experienced the joy of large aperture, flat field, pro optics.Combined with my decades-long experience with Canon's vari-angle prism I.S. tech and their follow-on technologies, I KNEW if purchasing something this expensive, I would do it from Canon.I am not at all disappointed in this product:If I were buying JUST for me, I would have gone with with one of their more expensive models with higher magnification AND a larger aperture primary lens.Focus is crisp, easy, very flat across the field of view, and then when holding the IS button, the stabilization is so obvious and clean it makes me wonder if I need to see a doctor about hand tremors... ()It was especially gratifying to watch my wife use them the first time and notice how easy it was to focus on objects of varying distances. Then as a I told her to spot a more distant object, she was able to frame it, and describe the details to me. It was here where I introduced her to the IS capabilities by having her hold her view steady while letting me guide her finger to the stabilizer button. Her reaction was priceless...I also bought (for me) a tripod mounting kit and a smartphone adapter for an eyepiece.CANON SHOULD INCLUDE LENS CAPS, even if as an extra cost option. Depending on aftermarket parts for this critical piece is short-sighted {see what I did there?} at best.
I bought these for a hunting in Alaska. We have a 10x Canon IS we bought about 17 years ago to use on our recreational Trawler, and they were great. When I saw these, they immediately went on my wish list. I'm extremely satisfied with the 18x50 IS. Just know, to carry these and a spotting scope is redundant. And if on a mountain hunt, you'd probably not want the extra weight, these do have some mass and are considerably heavier than their 10x. But, if you aren't carrying these on a pack trip, I think you'd be very happy with the clarity and the stabilization function, and would recommend the purchase. The challenge for me is, I carry a large handgun in a chest rig for bear protection and ease of flying my bushplane, trying to find a way to stow them for easy access ... MoreI bought these for a hunting in Alaska. Image stabilizing works wonderfully. Because of the stabilization, I can see more detail than with my Leica 8x32 Ultravids. It is like having the binoculars on a tripod. Although the image quality is not equal to the Leica, it is surprisingly comparable for such an inexpensive pair of binoculars. There is no rain guard provided, but I found the the rain guard for my Leica 8x32s fit perfectly.
I have Canon's 10x42 L IS WP binoculars which I love. Brilliant in every way. Was looking for a little extra reach and thought these might be the ticket. Very disappointed. The focus is poor, colors are muted, view is dark, and the IS unstable. The stabilizer also seems to stay on very long even after you lower the glasses, so I would expect short battery life. Nothing good to say about this product. I returned it.
I've had these for over ten years and though they're an earlier model, the only difference is you don't have to hold down the button to engage the mechanism on the newer models. Otherwise once I engage them, everything in the sky "slows down". They're very clear and enjoyable to use, though a little on the heavy side. The Canon 10 power is lighter, I prefer the 15 power.I've always owned quality optics; IE. Questar telescope, Bausch and Lomb pocket vino's, and these canon's.
