Canon zoom lens EF 24-70mm F2.8 L II USM This lens replaces the previous high quality L-series 28-70mm f/2.8 lens, with a lens of even greater caliber. The range has been extended to cover an ultra-wide angle of 24mm, which makes it ideal for digital as well as film shooters, and the optics are even better than before with two Aspherical elements and a totally new UD glass element. It's now sealed and gasketed against dust and moisture, and a new processing unit makes the AF faster than ever. Internal Focusing The internal focusing mechanism allows the front of the lens to remain stationary and to easily accommodate specialty filters, such as polarizing filters. Two Aspherical Elements A lens design incorporating elements ground so the curve of the surface does not describe an arc of a circle. Especially useful in reducing distortion in wide angle lenses. UD Element UD glass is one of the new technologies to open new possibilities to develop the zoom lenses with low weight and high optical performance. UD elements make it possible to correct chromatic aberrations whilst maintaining low weight.

Great every-day carry lens

I bought this lens for it's useful focal length range and its constant 2.8 maximum aperture. It is my daily carry lens, and suits a range of uses. I use it on a Canon 90D which has a crop sensor, so the focal lengths I get are 38mm-112mm. Decent for landscapes, street photography, and portraits, and the Boca is nice. This will likely remain my primary lens, followed by the Canon 70-200mm. The locking feature on the lens that prevents it from 'zooming' while carrying it in the downward direction is a nice feature. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the Canon 70-200mm lens has built-in image stabilization, whereas this lens does not. For the price, that's unfortunate. Overall though, I think it is a solid lens choice and a good buy if you're serious ... MoreI bought this lens for it's useful focal length range and its constant 2.8 maximum aperture. This business goes above and beyond. I am really young, still in college, learning about gear, and don’t have the money to own a lot of my own equipment. Not only has lens rentals been such an amazing resource for my creative outlet, but it’s also helped me build my knowledge and experience on using different cameras. I get so excited to be hired for a project because I’ll come straight to lens rentals and look for a new camera or a new lens to try out. But they just don’t stop there. The customer care is absolutely unbelievable. When I’ve interacted with employees on the phone or over email, I can just tell that they love their job. They are so kind and understanding. So terrible in fact, I noticed Adorama included a free 'strap on' hood made of stiff material to compensate. That doesn't function well either. I tend to only use it in studio. The new hood, the redesigned zoom and the fact that it doesn't do extreme closeups as well, is what prompted me to only give this lens 2 stars. ALL of my equipment is Canon and I love all of it......except this lens. I continue to use my old 24-70's for some things and I would use them more often but they're getting old and I'm hesitant because the focus issue may occur again without warning and ruin a shoot and are now used for light duty only. CANON needs to design a better lens hood.....which I understand is not possible because of the redesigned zoom mechanism. I think they should go back to the old design all the way around. Buying second generation of most products usually means something better and newer features. I did not find that to be the case with the EF 24-70 f2.8 II USM Lens.

Super sharp EF lens on Canon R5
7 April 2023

The EF Canon 24-60 2.8 Mk II lens is a very sharp lens with excellent contrast and is reasonably fast. I've tried the RF version but frankly dis not see enough improvement to justify a change. The In body stabilization in the R5 works wonders with this lens. I did have a Tamron 24-70 with stabilization before buying this Canon. For whatever reason, the Tamron's stabilization did not work properly for me on the R5. Also the Tamron had a different color balance compared to my other Canon lenses. If you have both DSLR bodies and R bodies like the R5 or R6, this is a superb all around lens.

Superb lens for newer stabilized Canon RF bodies
20 January 2023

With my Canon R5, I compared photos taken with the new RF 24-70 2.8 L to the EF 24-70 2.8 L II lens. With the R5 the difference in these lenses is quite small. The in body R5 stabilization is excellent with the older EF lens and for me the RF lens based stabilization did not support slower hand held shutter speeds. This may be different for you. Both lenses were very sharp and comparable in the corners. The RF lens does allow you to get a bit closer to the subject, but for me this is not that important. If you are using a non stabilized RF body ( original R or RP ) I would recommended buying the new RF lens as the built in stabilization is very handy. Both the EF and RF lenses are impressively good. In closing, if you have a stabilized body and own the EF 2.8 24-70mm II lens, I would find it hard to justify an upgrade.

Support Employee not competent the to be in a service busniness.

My recent rentalYour support person's reply to my complaint about the un-equal quality of this version of the 24-70 2.8 II was so stupid and thoughtless I had to delete it rather than reply...until now. It's not my job to test and verify the sharpness of a lens before I start the job..that's your job!!! Get the picture here?! What we pay for when we rent a lens from your company is a lens in professional working order. It's your job to see that the lens meets pro standards before you ship it to the customer. This lens did not, it functioned more like Version I of this lens..hit or miss sharpness. Be advised, a service business' good reputation can be undone very quickly.KL10/5

This lens is my absolute favorite lens. It's on the top of my bucket list. It is the perfect run a gun lens. It is recommended for videography but honestly makes a great run and gun lens for photography as well. Especially if you like a lot of variety. The autofocus is spot on, never have issues with it. My images are always so crisp. I love using this lens when I shoot elopements in the Tetons.

The star attraction to this L series (Luxury) Canon lens is photo detail clarity which is amazing! This 24-70mm is an EF lens series meant for full frame bodies. I am using it on a cropped frame Canon EFS series so that gives me an effective 38-112mm lens which works great. The automatic focus is fast and nimble, and the barrel action is tight giving testimony to high quality seals. The deal breaker for some is the lack of IS or image stabilization. If you have shaky hands, consider a different lens with the IS feature. It may also be a good lens for fast action shots using a higher ISO and shutter speed. I only use this lens on a tripod to photograph artifacts and for that purpose, I could not find a better lens. The next morning I did a quick walkabout around the neighborhood & took a few random shots. As anticipated, the auto focus performed efficiently & very well in daylight.Upon returning home, I wrote some notes down in my photography journal. I commented on how solid the build was yet discretely lighter than my old 24-70mm lens. I also noticed the new lens was slightly less than half an inch shorter. The biggest thing I was impressed with was the standard zoom out direction from 24mm to 70mm - my old lens zoom out direction was reversed from 70mm to 24mm. And although the filter size is 82mm (instead of the usual 77mm), I am convinced the larger optics lends itself to its excellent performance.I have already done several test photoshoots up & down Hwy 111 of several vintage iconic signs & buildings. I have only uploaded them onto my external hard drive hopper for review. However, my initial cursory reaction was - WoW! I can't wait to get hopping when it starts warming up!So, my overall impression of the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens so far - although I am still grieving over the loss of my old lens, I know this new lens will be my new fav field lens for test shots. In fact, maybe I will steam line my process & eliminate the step to do final shots w/my prime lenses! Thanks B&H for yet another excellent shopping experience!

Worlds Better Than Tamron
1 May 2019

I have been frustrated using my Tamron 24-70 f2.8 (with image stabilization) and finally bit the bullet and upgraded to the Canon f2.8L 24-70 ii (without image stabilization.) The lack of stabilization along with the stellar reviews for Tamrons equivalent is what originally drew me away from purchasing the Canon. However, I have had nothing but issues with my Tamron - extreme backfocusing (despite sending it in to Tamron for calibration), soft focus, terrible AF when photographing moving subjects, etc. So I finally got over my concern about the lack of image stabilization and got the Canon ii. Wow! Its worlds different! First off, photos at every focal lengths are tack sharp. Being a perfectionist, this made my heart happy after dealing with soft focus images from my Tamron. Then I tested it out on moving subjects, and whereas my Tamron would give me nearly 75% of my images out of focus, the Canon gave me around 95% tack sharp images. Ive also hand held this Canon in some fairly low light situations, with slower shutter speeds, and I have yet to run into an issue with camera shake from the lack of image stabilization. I truly believe it is not a necessary feature on the lens of this focal length. I, however, I do appreciate it on my canon 70-200 f2.8L ii. As always, my order from B&H was smooth sailing, and I couldnt recommend them enough. They also had a fantastic deal that allowed me to get a 4 TB Western Digital Passport hard drive for free with the purchase of my lens which I loved. Usually lens kits come with 75-80% w/ things that you will never use. I am absolutely beyond thrilled with my purchase, and Im so happy to not deal with the stress of wondering if my images will turn out, like I did before. I shouldve purchased the Canon to begin with, but I thought with the savings of a few hundred dollars plus IS, that the better option was Tamron. I was wrong.
