As I stated to the rep I am a novice at photography. I wanted a Lens where I could take indoor and outdoor shots. I specifically asked for and 85MM lens , but I didn’t get a lens based on my need. I think I received was an 85MM non- telephoto lens. When the tech told me about the lens , however I was shocked by the limited amount of depth and length that experienced. I ended up taking better photos with my iPhone and my family’ member’s android phone. The sad part is that I got great advice on my first rental and not so good advice on this rental……. I was hope that Lens Rental and the staff shared the same consistency in my second or as they did with my first rental. One disappointed customer

Great lens. I always wanted a lens with low F-stop and shallow depth of field for portrait work. I mostly shoot studio work using strobes at F11. This lens is good for when I shoot daylight portraits and when I am in low light situations. I find it a perfect portrait lens at the 85mm focal length. Great for all you Bokeh lovers out there. A perfect lens to learn with and get comfortable with before you upgrade and migrate to the L Canon glass. I am looking forward to using this lens for video as well when that time comes. Getting this on sale during special events or Holidays was the best time for me to buy it. I also love how Adorama throws in the extras at no cost. The filters are very handy and useful along with the lens hood.

Can’t say enough positive about LensRentals.Loved my Cannon 85mm f1.8 for a men’s gymnastics meet. Dim light, fast action, with limited shooting area from the spectator areas. Fantastic shots. I was pleased, the boys were pleased and other family members loved the shots.I read the tips for this lens before hand and it was right. It took some getting used to with the tight parameters of this awesome lens but once you get the feel for the settings, they turn out great!! This lens was able to stop the motion while letting the light in!!!!
Purchased this as a replacement of a 5 year old same lens that got trashed on a recent photo shoot. I immediately tested it and found it acceptable so I competed the registration card. A few days later while performing my normal pre shoot maintenance I found it to be extremely dusty between the inaccessible front and rear element groups. This lens is not an L lens and therefore is not weather or dust sealed. The dust doesn't seem to affect photo quality but it is unexpected. And since I competed the registration card the lens was no longer returnable.
Ideal focal length for portraits on a full frame camera such as the Canon 5D series or 6D, although on a crop sensor body, the effective focal length becomes 136mm - still usable, but you'll need some separation from your subject. The lens is compact and quite lightweight, with a reasonable amount of plastic around the body and lens front. It's durable enough though. The ultrasonic motor makes for pretty quiet autofocus and the focus itself, is sharp. If you need or want manual focus, this can be achieved by flicking the AF / MF selector, or just twisting the focus ring - it will override the autofocus, but of course, if your focusing is coupled to the shutter release, the auto will reinstate when you press the button. I use this lens on a 6D, and it's my new favorite lens. My first impression was great, it feels solid and has a huge piece of glass up front, but it's also compact. I was instantly at home with it; the working distance is ideal for me when I'm shooting people, and I couldn't be happier with the image quality I get with it.I was very happy with how fast it autofocuses. It's easily sharp enough for my uses wide open and you can really throw the background out of focus with a little planning, and by F4 or so, the subject is quite sharp.The depth of field can be pretty narrow, so I have to be careful to make sure entire faces are in focus when I'm at F1.8.I have seen some of the purple fringing people sometimes mention in reviews, but there are a lot of ways to ... MoreI use this lens on a 6D, and it's my new favorite lens. I really like the subtle telephoto zoom, and the amazing bokeh is impressive. Compared to a 50mm, I can definitely see why this lens is a preferred choice for portrait photography. It really brings you a lot closer to your subject without physically having to move closer. I’m excited!!!
Ive been out of photography for some time. Getting back into it, Ive purchased a new camera (R6) and five lenses (mix of EF and RF glass). This, my most recent purchase, was to fill a somewhat sentimental gap in my setup. I had the FD version years ago and it was one sweet lens. I was in high school then and I remember it costing more than the AE-1 I was using at the time (and a serious drain on my meager teenagers bank account). It was an investment then and, while Ive just started using it, I can tell its going to be a winner. Its a good size even with the adapter, fast focusing, and the image quality is on-par with my L-glass. For the money, its a fantastic value and is really useful on non-cropped cameras.
