This is an ultra wide angle zoom lens which fits my Canon M5 camera. It seems better quality than the kit lens (15-45mm) which comes with the camera, as the base is metal rather than plastic. It has Image Stabilisation and is Macro, which is all good.Viewing the photos I have taken, the optician quality seems excellent. It is slightly larger than the kit lens but still fits the case I use.John Lewis was the best price I could find so that decision was easy with there warranty and good service. It does overlap the focal length range of the kit lens quite a bit and hence the issue is, whether the cost of another lens can be justified or is it a bit of a luxury?

The 11-22mm is mainly reviewed for its video capabilities. I purchased it a few weeks ago. It is the sharpest lens I've ever seen in its class, with excellent corner sharpness and no chromatic aberrations wide open at all zoom levels. For landscape work, this lens will give you razor-sharp images from corner to corner if used correctly. I also owned the Canon 10-18mm, 10-22mm, Sigma 8-16mm. The 11-22mm has the best optics. I also own the Rokinon 12 mm F2; even stop down, there is no comparison. The corners of the Rokinon lens are much softer, and the lens has far more chromatic aberration. For landscape photographers, the ability to have the extended zoom range coupled with excellent optics, I would say that the 11- 22 mm would be a good choice.

Got the lens today. Put it on my M3. Turned it on. Something came up saying I needed to enable the lens. What? I looked at the instructions. Nothing. I finally had to figure out how to enable the lens. So, I looked at the instructions some more. It shows buttons for enabling autofocus and stabilizer. There are no such buttons on the lens. And, get this, it says to align the red buttons when installing the lens. This lens has a white button. This is a set of generic instructions that has nothing to do with this lens. Canon. This is unacceptable. I am sure the lens is great based on other reviews, but you need to do better than include instructions on cheap paper printed in Taiwan that have nothing to do with the lens I purchased!

I know a lot of people have this lens because it feels a need on the M mount that is lacking elsewhere, but this is one of the worst wide angle lenses on the market. People who want to use the amazing tech on the M series cameras and who need a wide angle lens or a blogging lens, your only real other option is the Venus 9mm, which is a bit soft and manual focus, but overall a much better investment. The first issue is with extreme barrel distortion at the lower focal length. This all but makes this a useless lens until about 15mm, which then you might as well use the 15-45 or the 22 f2. Yes it is a sharp lens, but what is sharp is distorted and crooked. I would not use this lens for things like architectural or landscape for this reason. I would not use this lens for things like architectural or landscape for this reason. I am a professional event photographer and absolutely love the M6ii as an event camera. Fast autofocus and high megapixel and some pretty grate portrait lenses for not a lot of money. A wide angle lens isn't a workhorse for me, but used for wide angles of the venue and the crowd. After less than two years of infrequent and light use, the lens refused to turn on. I looked up the problem and apparently it is quite frequent with the this lens, where the motor to the aperture gives out is practically unfixable. The cost of repair from Canon is more than a new lens. I won't be repurchasing and instead looking at a manual focus 12mm from a third party. Beware the people that are writing reviews that this is a great wide angle lens or a great alternative to very expensive alternatives. There are much cheaper third party lenses that have much less distortion.
Crystal clear native lens for EF-M mount. Great for landscapes, stars and other wide shots. Also able to focus in fairly close for macro in a pinch. A bit heavier than expected and only opens to f/4 which for low light is a challenge. AF to infinity never seems spot on so I always MF when focusing to infinity. Tried to upload photos but got error.
I recently purchased the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens to outfit my M10 back-up camera with a Canon brand wide angle option. This lens joins 4 others I have for this camera opening up all the photographic options that I need for my back-up rig in the event that my primary DSLR fails at a shoot. Right out of the box, this lens performed quite well when I walked out on my back deck and shot wide angle across my neighborhood. To protect this lens, I ordered a Hoya 55mm UV filter which did not interrupt the image quality in any way. I'm very satisfied with the quality and durable feel of this latest Canon lens purchase.
wide angle lens -it is good lens for me to shoot buildings when traveling but need to be close to building. light and great quality built. it is sharper in the centre - much better than 15-45mm , but not much zoom. it does have fish eye effect at 11 and unfortunately has great shots only at bright light and do not have easy use at low light (ap 4 at max )...it is made in taiwan, not japan.vblogging is good as it is wide angle lens.switch as on 15-45mm does require some 'training' to be ready to shoot. not point and shoot lens as 55-200mm ef-m one.it has issues on edges at 8 apenture- sharpness goes down on edges, fish eye at 11/4, sofness at 22 (no clear sharp in the centre unless object is further than 8-10 ft), as well as issues with chromatic aberration on ... Morewide angle lens -it is good lens for me to shoot buildings when traveling but need to be close to building. light and great quality built. it is sharper in the centre - much better than 15-45mm , but not much zoom. it does have fish eye effect at 11 and unfortunately has great shots only at bright light and do not have easy use at low light (ap 4 at max )...it is made in taiwan, not japan.vblogging is good as it is wide angle lens.switch as on 15-45mm does require some 'training' to be ready to shoot. not point and shoot lens as 55-200mm ef-m one.it has issues on edges at 8 apenture- sharpness goes down on edges, fish eye at 11/4, sofness at 22 (no clear sharp in the centre unless object is further than 8-10 ft), as well as issues with chromatic aberration on corners - this can be corrected with software.
Pros: Incredibly fast auto focus, great for tracking moving subjects (wildlife, sports, motorsport) Very sharp for a lens at this price, i had my concerns before the purchase but it has not let me down. With an APS-C EOS 800D body i have managed to get a superb image of the moon which has retained an incredible amount of detail even when the image is cropped to fill the frame more. The lens isolates subjects very well and gives great bokeh. I'm very happy with my purchase.Cons: As with most other reviewers I'm disappointed that Canon don't include the lens hood when you consider this is £120 more than the equivalent Tamron lens that does include a lens hood.Canon charge £75 extra for a genuine lens hood for this lens, i got a third party one for £15 which fits ... MorePros: Incredibly fast auto focus, great for tracking moving subjects (wildlife, sports, motorsport) Very sharp for a lens at this price, i had my concerns before the purchase but it has not let me down. A really nice wide-angle option for M6mkII. Takes nice images for scenery, street and for those macro moments up close. It is heavier than I expected but hopefully the craftsmanship and function stand up to use and time. If you're looking for a wide-angle lens but not a fisheye this is a great option for the price.
I decided to get this instead of the 16-35mm zoom for my Sony A7. That saved me about $950. The Canon lens on an EOS-M body weighs about the same as the Sony 16-35 lens only. It was nice to have the second system with the ultra-wide, all ready to go without having to change lenses. (Especially during dust storms.) You do have to expand & collapse the lens each time you deploy it but I found it was worth that small extra step for that extra bit of portability you get. (Could hang a little Lowe Dashpoint 30 alongside the other camera.) I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of use and image quality. I once sent back a Tokina 11-16 for being too soft all over but had no such problem here. I even found I preferred the results with this lens over using an adapted legacy ... MoreI decided to get this instead of the 16-35mm zoom for my Sony A7. That saved me about $950. (Could hang a little Lowe Dashpoint 30 alongside the other camera.) I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of use and image quality. I once sent back a Tokina 11-16 for being too soft all over but had no such problem here. I even found I preferred the results with this lens over using an adapted legacy lens on the full-frame. That is a significant first. I relied on the camera's autofocus system and was almost never disappointed - even for critical pixel peeping lens tests. (The only failure I noticed was with some thin flowers in the foreground - I really should have taken a bit more time and switched to manual, though that is somewhat tedious with this system...) The corners are acceptable wide open but better at f/8 with less vignetting. I found that was a good setting to leave the lens parked on for landscapes. The wide angle, super depth of field and optical stabilization make for a very easy & forgiving handheld shooting experience. Flare seems pretty well controlled, which is of course important for a lens of this type. Sunstars aren't the best but you can get them - especially at f/22 with a full blast of sun through trees. Distortion was present but not as much as feared and it was surprisingly easy and painless to correct. I found I usually enjoyed the wider end of the zoom more - 28mm equivalent has never been my favorite and as I approach 35mm equivalent, I've got a nice prime lens for the Sony A7 that delivers more robust IQ (at least for pixel peeping - I doubt I could easily tell the two apart in a blind comparison with 13x19 prints). The original EOS-M body encourages a certain point & shoot approach which is fun and handy sometimes but not the best for serious output. There are newer, slightly more advanced body options of course - I made do with what I had. (Manual mode helped nail exposure and the tripod helped get tighter compositions.) The construction is a bit toy-like compared to more expensive lenses but with reasonable care I expect it to hold up more than long enough to get my money's worth. (My other EF-M lenses have.) For the price, it's really not a legitimate minus. Perhaps the biggest weakness for this lens for me would be extreme low light. Focusing on stars is pesky but doable with the other stopless electronic focus lenses I've used, but I just couldn't manage at all with this one. Overall I find this is a very solid addition to the quirky yet fun EOS-M system and a great way to dip your toe in the ultra-wide waters. One step down from full-frame IQ, two or three steps down in size and price - what's not to like!
