As a photographer who uses a wheelchair this lens has been a great addition to my collection. The zoom on it is sufficient for me to be able take snappy and clear wildlife photos as well as crisp macro shots of insects and flowers. The focus is fast enough for me to be able to use it at club sports games.Overall an excellent addition for someone looking to continue developing their skills.

This is, by far, the best budget lens that has the same quality as the more expensive lens. You get professional photos/videos without breaking the bank. The results are just as good as the thousand dollar lenses. Plus the stm makes it the perfect vlogging companion lens to the 55mm stm lens. It pot picks up where it leaves on and compliments it perfectly. Highly recommend this lens! You don't need to spend a lot to get professional results!

Having had my lens for three years and taken over six thousand shots. Using canon 60d and 750D,images are absolutely brilliant and the lens shows no sign of use. Being careful with the kit and correct use will mean no problem. Shoots done in freezing temperatures, hot weather, windy as well this is where image stability comes in. Nothing blurred, also no judder panning at all, lens seems to know when to act because of racing cars wizz past and lens took it in its stride. Video mode and auto panning up down side to side didnt bother lens and using class 10 card means broadcast quality tbh. I think canon opted for better optics such as they did for the 18-55stm and carried it through. Going straight to manual focus is a dream come true, you turn it as you want, there is ... MoreHaving had my lens for three years and taken over six thousand shots. Light and high quality plastic build, also has engineering plastic for the mount. I bought the hood to eliminate stray light and protect lens. Utterly brilliant, lens but keep it away from damp and rain Inc dust. I have tamron 18 -270 vc pzd. I'm baffled as to why canon lens brings image closer than tams 270. To finish off, much brighter than any similar lens, faster, instant wake up and refocus (lens goes to sleep ) you will see how decent this lens is. Be aware and make sure it says STM, especially if you can see images.

I've been taking some bird pictures in my yard lately and decided to try this newest version of Canon's 55-250mm lens after reading some reviews that stated the new optics had improved the sharpness of the lens over previous versions, especially at the long end (above 200mm). I own the original IS version of this lens as well, and have been pretty satisfied with it. However, after trying out this new version for a few days, I must say that it's definitely sharper than my older version at 250 mm f/5.6 (which is what I was hoping for). Autofocus is also very improved and it hunts less before locking on as well as being nearly instantaneous when focusing. Silent motor as well, which should be great for video. Autofocus is also very improved and it hunts less before locking on as well as being nearly instantaneous when focusing. Silent motor as well, which should be great for video. Manual focus took me a little bit to figure out, since it's electronic vs. mechanical. I have to keep my finger halfway down on the shutter button to override autofocus with the manual focus ring, but it worked great once I figured that out. With the autofocus switch off, manual focus seems to work similarly to my previous lens. I doubt I will use manual focus much on this lens anyway, since the autofocus is so outstanding and fast. The key for me with this lens is sharpness at the long telephoto end, and I'm thrilled with the results I'm getting. Birds move fast and are quite twitchy in their movements. You don't get much time to focus and I generally take my pictures at or above 1/500 shutter speed, so improved autofocus and sharpness at 250mm, wide open (f/5.6) was important to me. This new lens has really delivered in both areas and has improved the quality of my pictures noticeably from my former IS version, which was already a pretty decent lens.I suppose a person could critique the build quality a little with the plastic vs. metal mount, but the counterpoint to that in my opinion is how light this lens is, and it still feels very solid to me in build quality. You can carry this thing around all day and not get tired at all, which means more pictures taken! Sure it's not made for heavy weather and rough conditions, but I'm not a pro so I don't shoot in those conditions anyway. I'm absolutely okay with trading the heavy duty build for lightness in this lens, and its optics seem outstanding to me.The price for this lens new is already an absolute bargain, and there are some lightly used examples out there that you can get for the price of a good dinner at restaurant! In my personal experience with this lens, it's improved noticeably in every way from the previous versions, from autofocus to sharpness, to the non-rotating front element for filters. Thank you Canon for keeping us amateur photographers in mind with these outstanding lens offerings at great prices.I absolutely love this STM version of the 55-250 lens! If you need a telephoto lens at a great price, don't even hesitate, go find one of these today!
A compact high-quality lens fit for most photographers who don't yet want to spend 2,500 on some plastic and glass for an already pricey camera body.Picking up a lens hood is recommended to reduce flaring, haze, and feathering while offering protection from collisions. The Canon ET-63 at $25 fits perfectly with no vignetting.Pros:-Quick Autofocus-Built-in Image Stabilization-Decent focal range for $300-Small light and compact-DurableCons:-Large F-Stop numbers (Average for the price)-Not as sharp as I would like, but unnoticeableunless you zoom and stare at itOverall, a balance of price and functionality, affordable for most photographers. Not impressed. I recently purchased the Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM Telephoto Zoom Lens for my EOS DSLR and have been disappointed with its quality. I was under the impression that it featured an automatic zoom adjustment, but it does not. Additionally, the lens slides back and forth too loosely, which affects its usability and overall performance. For the price I paid, I expected much better quality and functionality. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations.
Like other reviewers, I had a Tamron lens that was older (2009) and lacked clarity, particularly when zooming in or cropping. It also made way too much noise and slow when autofocusing. Enter the Canon. It was so fast and quiet that I didn't realize it was already focused. And the quality is great - I backed off the ISO and the details just popped. Didn't happen with the Tamron. In the images below, I was actually shooting through (clean) window glass and it still had great resolution on the feathers. Looking forward to using this on an upcoming trip - very happy with this and my previous Canon lens purchase of a wide angle for my 80D. B&H is fantastic, items always quickly shipped and well packed - never have to worry no matter how careless the delivery agent is.
If you have a Canon EF/EF-S mount product, you cannot find any better telephoto lens for travel. Look no further and get one of these. For just 13.23 oz or 375g with pack of latest technology, merely $300 is the bargain of the century. Unlike other Canon telephoto lens, stealth capability is at its best. I took many winning images among those professionals who proudly own big "white" lens with a "red" stripe. I am so happy to own this, and, as a matter of fact, this is the second copy in case the first one is worn out in the near future.
Best telephoto lens for a budget. I used it with my Canon eos r10 and managed to get great shots. In daylight, photos are sharp and autofocus is excellent. However, dont expect good lowlight results. Around sunset it can be verry difficult to avoid noisy or blurry images. My biggest complaint however, is that when I received the lens, some of the pins must have been damaged since whenever I take photos at the lowest aperture, I receive an unavoidable pop up warning. Other than that though, this lens has been the best investment in camera gear ive made since buying a canon ef 50mm lens.
