The plastic used in the bodies is polycarbonate so it will likely last a long time and resist distortion. I only had to pay $100.00 for these. There are some deals out there for $250 (used Zeiss Terra ED) that might be a better quality but that's a big jump in price. One consideration: Celestron does not extend their warranty ... I was interested in a pair of binoculars after spending more time walking nature trails in my neighborhood and larger community. We normally spot some birds, deer, or other animals on the route and wanted better views. More recently too I had the opportunity to spend a week at the beach and brought them along to do some bird and plane spotting from the balcony. The bins performed admirably in both situations. The modest size and weight reduced fatigue while glassing for extended lengths of time. The good field of view helped with acquiring coastal birds and aircraft in flight. The image quality is good and is free of any unusual color hues or artifacts that would detract from the overall image. The feel in hand is good with all adjustment points functioning smoothly ... These are very nice binoculars. I have the Celestron 8x42 Nature binos that I really like also and the brand seems like a good balance between cost and quality. The image is crisp and bright and the binoculars are easy to focus. As you can expect they can be difficult to hand hold at times given the 12 power but in short durations and on calmer days they great for that extra reach for small shorebirds and far off waterfowl. Rested on a truck window they are perfect. My only complaint is my pair have extremely loose eyecups which I remedied by wrapping them at my favorite position with electrical tape.
Pros: These are phenomenally good binoculars and I am glad that Celestron focused on the optics as the ED glass, Bak4 prisms and the quality of the image are exceptional. Absolutely no chromatic aberration that I can see and these are perfect for viewing stars and the moon. Saw both Jupiter and two of its moons clearly.Cons: These are heavy and a tripod mount for night sky viewing is recommended, which I got at the same time although it is a bit of a pain to fit. Similarly, putting the emphasis on the optics means that the lens caps and the strap are not premium.
Pros: Astonishingly clear image and easy focussing. You think you have got the image sharp and then it becomes sharper still with another small turn. Excellent build quality. Worth every penny!

They were awesome. The focus was quick. Vortex, Bushnell, Nikon, Athlon and Leopold to name a few, for about $250.I finally settled on the Celestron 8X42 DX ED and man I don't regret that one bit!I tried these binos in low light and it work great! and even better in daylight!I could see the smallest details in the nature and I how bright and sharp the image gets! ED glass sure is awesome :)The focus wheel is really good and easy to get the clear and crisp focus.Lens caps are nice and don't get in the way of the lens when hanging down.Neck strap is the only con I can think of. I've owned these binoculars little over a month and I love them! With the clear wide field of view, I am able to find birds quickly and with ease. Images are very crisp and clear. I especially like the fact that I can easily focus on images that are very close in range. I have been missing out seeing birds up close at our feeders until now!! Also, thanks B and H for making it easy for me to find the right binoculars for my needs. I exchanged my first choice and it went smoothly and quickly with no hassles. B and H prices were also very competitive, but with the ease of my exchange, it put B and H way ahead of anybody else. My wife and I will use B and H in the future for all our optic and photography up grades! Thanks again!!
