CineStill 800 Tungsten Color Negative 35mm Film - 1 Roll

I think a lot of people like the idea of 800t. A high speed film, tungsten balanced so you can shoot under artificial light? Who wouldn't want that?! Everybody is pulled to the idea.But I find the execution to be sub-par. It's filling a much needed gap (especially in medium format), but it's not what I want filling that gap.It's a cinema film being cross processed in C-41, and not only that, it's being under exposed to 800, finally, topping it off with the removal of remjet, which means yay, it can go in minilabs, but oh no, now any highlights will be in a wash of red light. (Also reports of rampant static issues in earlier batches, and light leaks or not fully removed remjet. This isn't so much of a worry now as they're now ordering the film from Kodak directly, without any remjet to begin with.)I appreciate what they've done as a company to reinvigorate film photography, but this film has too many problems for me, and their actions as a company, going after Amber 800T (now T800 because of cinestill) just really puts me off.If you can, for 35mm, shoot the real deal stuff from Kodak, because Vision 3 rocks.In 120, there's really no other choice for something like this that doesn't involve shooting 65mm stocks. So it's either halations, or sprockets (that come with light leaks typically.) So, keep on with that until something better comes along.Honestly though, if you like it and you keep getting great results with it? Ignore me and keep shooting it. These are all just my two cents.

You can DIY and play around with Kodak Vision but remjet aside, Cinestill gives you the opportunity to produce nostalgic shots often suited to nighttime work.However, this is not a great all-rounder. It's also not super fun for beginners. Cinestill advise you use a 85 orange filter. I can't stress how much this helped improve my work. However, if you're new to colour or just want to shoot casually stick to some cheaper fuji stocks. I've shot Fuji C200 in low light with neons etc and theres not a huge difference.The high ISO of Cinestill is also more likely closer to 500, going of the original stock. But exposed correctly, you can really get some amazing night work. Overall, its a fun, but expensive way to experiment with a timeless look.

CineStill is effectively Kodak 500T motion picture film with the RemJet layer pre-removed so that it can be processed in regular C41 chemicals without any added steps. This alone makes it interesting, and something I think most photographers should try out. The fact that it is tungsten balanced is also unusual in the 35mm world. In practice, the film is pretty expensive, and can produce fairly bland results if you don't have the right conditions. This can be a great film, but don't go into it expecting that all of your shots will immediately turn out like something from Blade Runner.
