D-Link DWA-X1850 AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 USB Adapter

A good price with no problems. Using a newly installed Vodafone 500 Fibre 6e Hub and Booster with AX via my PC, Win10 and USB3.1. Very simple to install and picking up the faster speeds very smoothly.

I live in a basement apartment. Average speeds were 7mbps down and 2 mbps up... Just painful.After plugging this in and moving the adapter closer to the fibre box (with extension usb) I am at 238.5 down and 172.9 up.Do yourself a favour: Buy it.

Bloody awesome lil piece of tech that works very well in my current setup. So convenient and unobtrusive but most of all it does the damn job. Easy to setup and use, no p***ing about which is exactly how all tech should beI'll be purchasing another for the next PC rig

An easy upgrade

I am still working from home after all these months and throughout the pandemic I've been upgrading things here and there. (Chair, monitor, keyboard, router, etc). I bought a Wi-Fi 6 router a few months ago and has been an improvement for everyone thankfully. My PC had an old wifi adapter that was ok but slow and was causing lagging through zoom calls. This adapter was super easy and took literally 2 minutes. Click setup and done. I am now able to get almost the full speed from my provider and zoom is perfect now.

Connection Problems

Have had nothing but problems with this since I got it - the wi-fi router is literally in the next room about 15' away and it has a hard time connecting. Once it established a connection, it was usually fine until I was done using the computer, but every time I would wake the computer from sleep, I would have to keep trying to reconnect for 2 minutes with the door open before it could connect to my wi-fi again. I ended up popping up some ceiling tiles and running an ethernet cable, and won't be using this junk adaptor again.

Connection problems

At the startup it takes about 5 minutes to connect to wifi and then afterwards works fine. sometimes cuts out for whatever reason. ive tried everything to fix the startup but nothing ever works. just bought a ethernet cable. never buying something like this piece of junk again

Great But Buggy Windows Driver

Drivers for Windows 10 cause occasional connection problems and I have to uninstall and re-install the adapter in device manager. Probably to be expected since the WIFI 6 standard for wireless adapters is rather new. Other than that the adapter works great, able to stream 4k content.

Headed in the right direction but not quite there

OK...I thought I'd go ahead and move forward as my current devices were rather old by typical standards. I bought this new wifi 6 adapter with high hopes of greatly improved speed/performance. Well, it sorta worked out but not completely. The thing is, the adapter works pretty great WHILE THE PC IS STILL SEEING IT. Yea...the darn thing has a tendency to drop off line and just simply disappear; come uninstalled if you will. I have spent a great deal of time just reinstalling it over and over. Its mechanism of operation is strange to me as it carries its driver with it permanently as an embedded item. WHAT? you say??? Yea, whenever its not installed it behaves for the most part like any other jump drive. It come up in My PC with a drive letter and the whole bit. You can open it like a jump drive but all that's there is a folder with the windows driver installer app. You can access that to run it but that's all. You cannot write to it or anything like that. Once it is successfully installed its role as a jump drive simply disappears and now its exclusively a USB wireless adapter as you might expect to see it. Its a bit strange really and I'm still not sure what I think about it. Actually thats not true thinking twice...because when you pause long enough to remember the very high cost of this thing i'm just not sure its worth the hassle in the end. It cost 3 times what a comparable linksys adapter goes for but does NOT work 3 times better. In closing my personal experience would have to be that its just not quite ready for prime time all things considered. Get the 20-something dollar linksys/cicso adapter because just yet, the hassles make this D-Link not worth the high price. I actually returned mine; didn't even keep it. Hope this helps.

Pros: The manufacturer, D-Link’s description says it all and is correct. No problems setting it up and using it.Cons: Beware! Having a VPN can give slow download/upload speeds. In my case, using Firefox VPN. Without a VPN this device works perfectly.
