Calcium chloride is much more effective at absorbing water.Since calcium chloride turns into a liquid as it absorbs water, there is a liquid byproduct you must dispose of in the trash or the toilet. Damp rid products are designed to collect the liquid which is good.The only downside we have found to this product, is that if you spill the liquid on carpet is is hard to remove.The 2 lb 12 oz = 44 oz pouch holds enough damp rid to refill the damp rid cup 4 times.

We place these 11 oz. containers in our bathroom, under the kitchen counters, closets, any where there is a possibility of dampness. The product is very easy to use and lasts easily for a month at a time.They have a new decorative design that is nice but not necessary for it to do it's job. The directions on the shrink wrapped cover may be hard to read but once I scissor off the outer wrapper, directions are printed on the inner container.Do not let the product contact leather or metal, avoid contact with your skin or eyes. Exc product that does its job of controlling excess humidity. You already know this because you are buying refills.But the plastic bags it comes in are TERRIBLE (re-seal strip never works). Either use ALL at once to refill about 5-7 containers, else know you'll need to seal any remainder in a high quality Ziplock-type bag, because this refill bag's sealing strip does not adhere to the inside of the bag - ever! The adhesive DampRid uses to attach the strip just doesn't stick! Tape or staples also do not adequately keep moisture out of the remaining product. I find that a "Ziplock Double Zipper" bag work best, and - at least - can be reused many times.
