I rate most of the things I purchase 5 stars purely due to having researched them beforehand and essentially already being informed of their quality and what not. This Dell monitor however truly exceeded my expectations. I only really bought it as my Asus is getting a bit dated and I wanted a higher quality monitor with an ultra thin bezel. And a second monitor to add to my first. After the quality difference between the two forced me to purchase a second!I only expected a slightly better colour accuracy over my old Asus VN247H monitor. But when I finally connected it up and gave it a go with a number of games (Eve, Dota 2 and Crysis 3) and even plain programs I was truly shocked by the colour quality and deepness of the colours. The quality really staggers belief when playing most games, truly enhancing the gaming experience. A big thumbs up to Dell for the exceptional quality. It also comes factory calibrated for you convenience.I could not compare it to many other monitors when first setup but when I hooked it up side by side to my old one, I finally pegged its true quality over the old. It has almsot no white wash which I have only now noticed on the old one (Old one was also LED). Colours are so much more richer, vibrant and deeper. It is hard to describe the experience over a standard range screen.I have since compared it to quite a few from work to friends gaming rigs and it is the undeniable winner in colour quality quality and features.Don't get me wrong, I did calibrate my old Asus one to the best I could quire recently but I only really got mediocre improvements which were quite sporadic and not satisfactory.Any-who back to the Dell. It comes with an amazingly diverse number of connectivity options as listed in the description which is a big bonus for people with many things that need to be connected simultaneously from mini-display port to HDMI. It comes with a display port to mini-display port cable and a USB 3.0 A to B for the built in hub.Even better it comes with a built in 4-port USB 3.0 hub for easy connectivity to other things on your desk. It works perfectly with my USB 3.0 External Hard Drive on my desk and it has one on the immediate back and another three ports next to the video inputs. So not just an extension to from one port to one PC to screen but a single to a 4-port hub! And all USB 3.0! A huge plus! The ultra thing bezel is another very attractive feature of the monitor. I only purchased the one to add a bigger workspace to my gaming life but I had to order another as I couldn't live with the quality difference when placed side by side. The two Dells are almost seamlessly connected with the thin bezel between the both of them. The finish is a silver one, very attractive not to much I can say about that and it complements the look perfectly. The stand is sturdy and vertically adjustable for height adjustment. The monitor can pivot from landscape to portrait mode in both anti and clockwise orientations. The stand is also a complimentary silver finish just like the monitor itself. The menu functions have great graphics and loaded with extra features from timers to dimming when in screen-saver mode to preferred input functions. Dells software is also as expected exceptional, allowing grids to be setup at your desired style to add extra snapping spaces to compliment Windows 7 and 8's style snapping of active windows. Great for multitasking functions. This is a a personal emphasis of my own in recommendations for next monitor purchase. It may cost an extra £70 over a standard 24" but it I cannot emphasize enough how much extra value you get for the cash.

I was in need of some better monitors for my growing hobby of photography and video editing. After reading many reviews online, I decided this particular monitor would be a big step up without a big hit on the pocket book. Getting a 2-pack like this made it a no-brainer for me.Right out of the box, the quality was great. Each monitor has it's own QA spec sheet showing the testing done. I did a calibration using my SpyderPRO which toned down the brightness and slightly warmed the temperature (white balance). Showing the before/after after the calibration had been done, the test images showed a difference, but not nearly as drastic as other monitors I've seen calibrated. The detail and clarity is definitely there and a very nice improvement for my detailed photo ... I purchased this Dell UltraSharp U2414H monitor based on my 3 years of using a similar Dell UltraSharp monitor. The Dell series of UltraSharp monitors offer really nice viewing with a matte finished screen producing excellent color response. My older UltraSharp is a 1920 x 1200 screen. The U2414H is a 1920 x 1080 screen. Upon receiving this U2414H, I was immediately disappointed with the reduced vertical space for editing photos and working with spreadsheets.I decided to return this Dell U2414H for two reasons: 1) There was a noticeable amount of backlight feed-through in the lower left and right corners. 2) And I really did miss the screen space of a 1920 x 1080 monitor. For the "on sale" price though, I will still say that this is an excellent monitor for both ... The monitor arrived next day, as promised, and in good condition. Do take a moment to read the instructions on the outside of the box about 'how to open' - it is very well packed by an expert in oragami! The picture quality is excellent using either HDMI or DisplayPort. They are a bit hit and miss as to whether your finger operates them but there is an optional 'beep' control that lets you know audibly if you have 'connected'.Stand works well but doesn't raise as high as my previous LG monitor stand. Screen rotates to allow portrait orientation.Size of screen is good for viewing two documents side by side which can be useful when editing and coordinating a series of documents.Colour balance is very good and makes my laptop screen look weak by comparison (which is both a good and a bad thing - perhaps I now need a new laptop!).I recommend this monitor.
Obviously, the few cons I have with this display are not enough to mar my otherwise great experience. I use this monitor for work with Lightroom for outputting photos to the web, and I calibrate my displays with a Datacolor Spyder 4. In terms of sRGB color accuracy and overall image quality, there is little to complain about, so long as you're willing to go through the effort to calibrate this monitor. People looking for Adobe color accuracy might want to look at more professional offerings available. I can't really speak to performance beyond what I primarily use this monitor for, so please look to other reviews for comments on how it behaves when gaming or watching movies (I generally only watch the occasional YouTube video, which always look horrid in full-screen ... I can't really speak to performance beyond what I primarily use this monitor for, so please look to other reviews for comments on how it behaves when gaming or watching movies (I generally only watch the occasional YouTube video, which always look horrid in full-screen due to compression). I also can't speak to using this monitor when daisy-chained to another monitor - though it looks like all one needs to do is read the manual to make that work and not hook it up to a Surface Pro 3. (Why anyone would do that is beyond me, anyway.) The only previous complaint that I can give credence to is the slightly non-uniform backlighting across the screen. This appears to be an issue across most large LED displays, regardless of their origins. Even though I mapped the hot/cold spots on my monitor, just to know where they were, the difference overall wasn't great enough to warrant a mention as a con. Most CRT displays weren't perfect in this respect, either, so the fact that it's still an ongoing issue with LCD panels is nothing new to me. Again, overall, this is a fantastic monitor, and certainly a good value.
I made the decision to purchase two of these 23.8" monitor to replace my older dells at home and I am very happy with the set up. The dasiychain feature (DisplayPort 1.2(MST) connectivity) saved me money as I did not have to buy a new docking station (I would've had to if I went with other comparable brands as most I looked at did not support this). Cleared up a lot of space on my desk with a Vesa stand and I was able to toss my older docking station in the garage. I did use the stands which came with the monitors until my Vesa stand arrived and did not have any issues. Very good build quality. Now I switch between my work and personal laptop by just switching the mini display port cable. They look very sleek with the thin border. Everything works flawlessly.
The Dell U2414H replaces a Dell 2007WFP 16:10 S-IPS Monitor from many, many years ago.It has not been replaced because nothing that has come out in the LCD/LED Monitor market has ever been capable of beating it in terms of greyscale, colour and outright calibration.I've read a review through TFTcentral where they had a very old review of the Dell 2007WFP, and so whatever calibration remarks equalled that, I would try and match that to that.None did for years. Then the P2414H arrives, and it is almost an exact match, with far superior whites, improved input lag, improved latency and improved RTC.I wanted a pre-calibrated monitor, and so I bought the U2414H from Scan.co.uk.The Dell U2414H has exceeding my expectations by a long, long way. There is simply no doubt about that. And the pre-calibration (Minolta's CA210 Colour Analyzer) needs to be selected through the OSD's Colour Setting, and set to sRGB; as it is defaulted to Standard when you turn the display on.Nothing needs to be done other than that - with one exception. No LED Edge-lit is going to beat CCFL tube lighting for a solid and uniformed black background. It just can't do that, but what you can do is have a 40W warm ambient light that lights up the display from behind (or have a directional light that sprays that light across and behind it - and bingo... you get a completely even black background because that's just the way the brain works. You don't need to change the RGB to 0-255. Leave it at 16-255. No matter what other uses say, don't use 0-255. Black is one thing and Contast another, but you're going to have to wait for OLED before that means anything. The Dell U2414H is better than the Dell 2007WFP S-IPS - and that is seriously saying something as it has held its own for 7 years.
This is the only monitor I have supplied for the past 3 years more or less. When they get installed users love them. The height adjust is great, the base very sturdy and stable and will pass any work station assessments. Only twice have I had an issue with no VGA port but nearly every PC connected has HDMI, DP or DVI. I have quite a lot of dual setups using these and with the daisy chaining with DP it makes a tidy install. USB3 hub is handy as well. I have also used the AC511 sound bar to make the install nice if speakers required. The main criticism I have is the lack of Auto input selection (or a one touch button to do). I still get this for time to time on the older ones and waking them up is a pain! Even turning off and on again doesn't do it, you have to unplug the cables and replace in the correct order.Thankfully all the later A03 revisions do not have this issue, making this a truly great monitor. Will continue to buy until Dell discontinues it.
Great product, very few niggles. The "touch" buttons do annoy me - I'd far rather have actual physical buttons. I ended up turning on the "beep" for the buttons since it's otherwise very hard to gauge when you've pressed one (but the beep is also annoying!).Apart from that, it's a great panel.I game on it quite a bit and was initially quite nervous that it might be a big laggy (being an IPS panel etc.) but I'm used to it now and don't seem to have any problems on that front. One minor hiccup which I can't really blame on the monitor is that at first, it wasn't going into standby mode when I suspended my PC - it was saying something like "cable disconnected". I spent ages trying to figure out what was wrong, but then tried replacing the HDMI cable which immediately cured the problem. (I basically replaced a cheap and nasty cable I got for £2 from Scan with another equally cheap and nasty one from one of their main competitors some years ago. Ironically the only reason I bought the Scan cable was because I suspected my other cables might not be good enough quality!)
I had a Dell 17" from back in 2006, and it sucked. It was also an Ultrashap model that had rave reviews. Unfortunately, I received mine with a panel made by AOC instead of LG I think, which the rave reviews were based on. The colors sucked. I stayed away from Dell monitors since then. Fast forward to 2015 (and after getting beautiful wide-gamut IPS monitors from HP, and ASUS, since then), I was on the market for something cheaper to extend my notebook desktop space, but yet still performs decently. Doing a price-feature comparison, this Dell stood out. The deal maker for me was the thin bezel and the decent stand, which provides more than just tilt which cheaper models would be. So I am not complaining. 1 year later, it still performs nicely, and I hope for many more years to come.
