I had another Denon system receiver that had to be replaced because the older model was destroyed by lightning. This is the next higher version. Denon makes a variety of high-end receivers depending on your budget. I read a number of reviews before buying and decided against another model because there were reports of the system overheating and reducing output to extremely low levels. The setup is fairly simple and this model has great reviews. I expect to get the same, great quality that I did from my last Denon receiver. With this receiver, you get fairly high-quality sound that won't break the bank.

This is a receiver that I am purchasing after about 13 years sticking with pioneer Elites. I decided to check out the Denon and was surprised by the sound quality. The music and movies seem to have an immersive atmosphere. I love the fact that it is future proof for 8k content. I am currently at 4k and don’t think I will be going to an 8k any time soon. Setting up the system took some time but if you follow the instructions it is very easy step by step connection process. This is supposed to be the top line of their mid-range of receivers. I am happy with the sound quality and video. The first thing my wife told me after we hooked it up was that even the picture on the tv looked better.

While the Denon AV receiver boasts impressive sound quality and a multitude of features, I encountered a few drawbacks. The sound performance is undeniably fantastic, offering rich, immersive audio. However, the setup process was a bit complex, requiring more time and technical know-how than expected, which might pose a challenge for beginners. Additionally, while the receiver's functionality is extensive, the user interface could be more intuitive and streamlined. Wifi connection doesn’t seem to be perfect. Despite these minor setbacks, the Denon AV receiver delivers exceptional audio quality for those willing to navigate its learning curve.

I upgraded from a 5.2 to a 7.2 receiver. I had a really hard time hookung up the tv to the receiver. I eventually figured ot out, but i thought it works have been much easier switching then out, but it wasn't. Helpful hint, use the HELP menus, it will tell you that's its not hooked up correctly and tell you what to look for. Anither recommendation is to use utube fir additional information. I love klipsch, but they need to prove more information on different connections because it works make the hookup less painful. Also, it shoukd be 7.1 because after i connected 5 celing soeakers and 2 standung klipsch soeakers, it only show 7.1 instead of 7.2.
I was looking to replace an older Yamaha AVENTAGE that I bought used for $300 five years ago. I had 4k 50-60p but no Atmos. This Denon had all the specs I was looking for and the same power as my Yamaha. I thought it would be a fine upgrade. However, I was greatly disappointed. The cheapness of the remote was the first bad sign. I wish these companies understood how the remote is our connection to the equipment. Anyways, after getting it all hooked up I was severely underwhelmed by the sound quality. I fiddled around with it and got it sounding pretty good but it just didn't have that richness of my Yamaha. I was able to get a show sounding pretty good but when it came to music it just couldn't compare with the 10 year old Yamaha. I was able to get a show sounding pretty good but when it came to music it just couldn't compare with the 10 year old Yamaha. I wish I could explain it better but it just wasn't near as rich and full and immersive. The Yamaha truly feels like you are inside the sound and with the Denon it felt like you are standing at the door looking in at it. For most people it will be a great receiver but for someone transitioning from a high-end receiver it may be a let down. Also, I'm not a sound engineer so I didn't mess with the equalizer too much, but with the Yamaha I have never even touched the equalizer. So if this is the nicest receiver you've ever owned you will probably be satisfied with it but if you have a receiver you love but need to update it for inputs and connectivity you my find yourself underwhelmed. Also, I do think it's an excellent value. I think my Yamaha was the 3rd most expensive receiver when it came out and looking at their current offerings would put it around the $2500 price range. So I might be comparing apples to oranges.
Works well, no apparent issues with the hardware that I have encountered. Much better than the cheap HTIAB receiver that it replaced. No 4k/HDR hiccups on this like I experienced with the other receiver.A couple of complaints:1. Did not come with the microphone to calibrate the room (it was supposed to) so I was unable to calibrate. I will have to buy one I guess and they're not cheap.2. The receiver does not automatically go back to the previously used input. The only source I am using is a PC for now and when I turn everything on it does not default to that source. I had to disable all other sources to get it to work the way I wanted it to.Overall I am happy with the device.
i have had Denon in the past and found it to be a good overall receiver for home theater.I started with a 650H, which was great. i had issues where the sound after a few minutes of Bluetooth would get shaky, almost in/out treble or someone turning it up and down. the Bluetooth was connected but would cut in and out for a bit, then completely out.I bought the 970 in hopes maybe the other one was a fluke, however I'm experiencing similar issues with ONLY the Bluetooth now. Sound is doing the exact same thing, but Bluetooth hasn't been disconnecting. I have connected for 20 minutes total, as I listen to music/podcasts for hours, this issue is turning me away from Denon's products.
Previous to this, and only for about a week, I had purchased an Onkyo TX-NR696 that unfortunately didn't meet my expectations, especially given its price point. I picked this unit up in exchange (HUGE props to Best Buy for making this process smooth). The member pricing at the time of my purchase actually put this receiver just slightly less in price than the Onkyo TX-NR696 despite its much higher normal price.Setting this unit up was very easy with the built-in setup guide and I had no issues getting it configured to my room and equipment. Once that was done and I began watching things via my Roku TV, record player, and built-in streaming audio options it was very clear this receiver is in an entirely other class than the Onkyo. It's been a long time since I can recall a single product making such a profound improvement in the sound of my home theater room, but this rose to the occasion. If you're even remotely considering this model, don't walk, run and go get one. It's phenomenal. Huge props to Denon for knocking this out of the park.
Initially, I was passing a signal from a gaming PC, through the AVR, and to the TV but there were issues.1. VRR was hard to get working. I had to agonize over it and fiddle with settings until eventually, it miraculously fixed itself. It should work immediately from the start (like when I connect the PC straight to the TV), but it didn't. Also, it doesn't matter much, but it only supports HDMI forum VRR, not G-Sync or FreeSync.2. There was an odd bug where the AVR seemed to mess up colors and gamma in the image. I have HDR enabled at all times on my PC using the Windows 11 HDR Calibration tool and usually, it looks great. But when passing through the AVR, totally randomly, the colors would become washed out and brights highlights totally blown out. No such problems connecting straight to the TV.3. See the attached video... idk what to say about this oneNow, I have my PC connected straight to the TV and the AVR connected to the TV's eARC port. Everything works fine that way, so if you're attempting a similar setup and having issues, try PC > TV > AVR as opposed to PC > AVR > TV. I would be returning it if not for the fact that I got it at a huge discount.
I scoured the internet for days to find my next AV receiver. Considering the features for the price, no other receiver matched the AVR-970H for my budget. As I was upgrading from a 20 year old Yamaha, produced before HDMI was a thing, I really didn't understand how everything was going to work. And the first day with the Denon was rough.Hard learned lesson: Check for a firmware update before you do anything else! After taking the time to set everything up, including figuring out the Inputs grid, I am extremely pleased with this machine. I worried that the 90W output was too low, I had 110W previously, but it sounds like it drives the speakers harder, which was a nice surprise.I appreciate the flexibility in assigning the second zone. I'm enjoying a 7.1 configuration now, but I'll swap to a 5.1 and put zone 2 speakers outside for the summer time. In which case, the HEOS functionality and app have been a pleasure. They suffer from a lack of basic music player functions, like, why can't I access my Playlists from the receiver directly?!? I don't want to open the app when I'm sitting in front of the receiver, remote in hand. Oh well, once it's playing, it's working well for us.In terms of driving sound, I give this receiver a 10/10. Love it!
