Denon DP-29F - Turntable
Dust off those vinyl records and put them back into your listening rotation with the DP-29F turntable from Denon. Even if your receiver or amp does not have a phono input, this versatile turntable will play through your system - you don't even need a phono adapter. The DP-29F includes a built-in phono preamp, so you can hook it up to your system through a standard analog connection. But if your receiver does have a phono input, and you'd prefer to use it, a small switch beneath the platter disengages the preamp. The DP-29F features an automatic system that starts the music with a simple touch of a button. When the record is finished, the tonearm automatically returns to its original position. By eliminating the need to handle the tonearm manually, you dramatically minimize the chances of inadvertently scratching your records. There's also a manual lifter mechanism that allows you to place the needle on the record wherever you want, just in case you'd like to skip to a song in the middle of a side. And for solid, dependable playback, the DP-29F has been precision manufactured with rigid diecast aluminum for perfectly stable turntable rotation.

I bought this knowing that I was buying an entry level turntable, however, I didn't expect it to be built with such poor quality lightweight materials. As I assembled it, it felt like a cheap toy. However, it is functionally sound. It is fully automatic and has so far worked without any issues. It looks good too from a distance. I think, with the benefit of hindsight, I should have gone for the entry level Pro-Ject Primary E.

Decided on this turntable, although at the time the only information I could find was technical specs or the odd youtube submission which still left me wanting. It has a built-in pre-amp which I think works great. The sound generated for me is very clear, much better than I had hoped. Automatic operation is a bonus too! I think the rubber record mat is a definite plus point, nice addition. Ready to go out of the box! All leads pre-attached just plug in. One thing you do need to do before actual use is lift the turntable belt onto the drive roller (very easy, instructions included to help if needed). Some niggles are: no power light indicator, on/off button (I switch off at the mains). After finally deciding to start playing my vinyl instead of just looking at it I went for an entry level turntable but with a well known name.I made the right decision with the Denon. It is silent simple and delivers all I need from it.Christened it with my 50th anniversary DSOTM album and loved every second. One bad note was that it arrived in immaculate packaging yet the lid was cracked which could only have happened at the factory.Customer service at Richer were quick to arrange a replacement for me though.

Purchased for use In my office with a powered speaker. Initially attracted by the price but happy with the performance. The unit is fully automated so the needle automatically goes to the start of the record & returns at the finish. This means you cannot place the needle on a specific track at the start of playback but can move the needle once the unit is playing. The automatic mechanism is a bit clunky & noisy but works well. The unit does what I wanted at a good price so happy
Easy to set up. There is a phono stage built in, if you need it, but you can use the one in your amplifier, if it has got one. The sound quality is very good, for the money. You get that warmness on the strings in an orchestra, that you don't get with digital sound. There's a bit of turntable noise in the background, but it is so little, you only notice it on very quiet bits. What do you expect, at this price? If you want no turntable noise, you have to buy a much more expensive deck. Very compact. Overall, very pleased with my purchase.
I bought the turntable about 4 weeks, never having had one before, although the other equipment has always been intact. I was served by Aidan at the MK showroom, who showed how to deal with a customer albeit one of 70 years old and not very savvy! I explained what I was looking for, a starter turntable, and he came up with the Denon, one I had been looking at. No hard sell and the whole process was over in 15 minutes. Can't wait until I wish to buy something else.
As a returner to vinyl with a collection somehow surviving in good shape in the loft for 20+ years, I wanted a budget unit to connect to my Denon DM41. Given my modest home hifi set up and not knowing whether I'd get back into vinyl I wanted a budget option. The Denon DP-29F was the right price and I must say expectations were far exceeded. For the price I am quite amazed. The sound is rich and full and I'd have to say at least as good as CDs, perhaps a smidge better through my system. As others have said, it's fully auto and you can't easily drop the stylus on a particular track. Overall though, sound great, simple, and would buy again if you're like me and just dabbling in LPs again with an intention to buy only second hand LPs in future. My only very minor quibble is to say the built-in cables are a little on the short side but that's a tiny thing
As the title of my review suggests shopping in Richer Sounds gives me the peace of mind that I will always maximize my money. I know that they are specialized in Hi-Fi and any of the products they sell won't disappoint me.This said, I'm 54 and I didn't hear a vinyl for almost 30 years but the Denon DP-29F sounds great. I bought it for my daughter to enjoy our old vinyls collection and she is delighted. I'm sure there are amazing turntables for 5 times more money but for us the DP-29F is all we need. We connected it to the Denon DM-41, an amplifier with Dab Radio and CD that we bought in Richer Sounds too and they loved each other since the first moment.Well done to Denon and thanks to Richer Sounds staff. I impulse-bought this record player as a Black Friday special offer. It arrived at the local shop very quickly. Pick-up was quick, easy and helpful: when asked, the very friendly guy serving me showed me how the cables would have to be fitted to my stereo at home. Set-up at home was easy enough and would have been easier still if Denon had included clearer instructions re the belt and a non-existent ground cable... Managed it, and have been having auditory trips down memory lane ever since, with Mum's old LPs playing schlagers from the 70s, transporting me back to my youth. There's something visceral and sweet about a turntable! Reassuringly analogue in our digital world...
This is a basic functional turntable which works well with my Denon receiver. I use the built in phono preamplifier because my receiver didn't include one. I tested it's speed and wow & flutter. The speed held steady and was just above 33⅓. Wow & Flutter .25% I also use a record spindle weight. I replaced the original belt with an improved after market. Good torque and it doesn't vary in speed. This isn't the type of deck that's going to compete with Rega, Fluance, Project, Clear Audio, etc. You will get good details from a cartridge that tracks at just barely above 3 grams ( measured scale) Tracking sounds consistent from start to finish of record. I'm pleased with the quality of output whether listening with speakers or headphones. It's very quiet, but of course ... MoreThis is a basic functional turntable which works well with my Denon receiver. I use the built in phono preamplifier because my receiver didn't include one. I'm pleased with the quality of output whether listening with speakers or headphones. It's very quiet, but of course you will get record noise with pops and clicks, depending on the cleanliness and record condition. The convenient front controls start / stop make it easy without having to manually move the arm. Press start and it will automatically descend just before the beginning of the first track. This unit will shut itself off just after it lifts and sets the tone arm back in place. You get a convenient, well rounded package that compares favorably to other players in this price range. For those who complain about the cartridge is fixed position, this isn't the deck to be swapping or significantly upgrading your cartridge. The stylus can be replaced. If you're in the mood to upgrade cartridges, you should consider a complete turntable upgrade to another model with a better bundled cartridge. That saves you money in the long run. Personally, you may find if you want to get into playing vinyl, this is a good lower entry option which I think sounds very good.
