Beautiful Derwent charcoal pencils in variety of softness including white charcoal and a sharpener. All encased in their own tin keeping them safe and undamaged. Excellent value for money.

Although I like these they are hard charcoal so I have to use a though paper with them, as cheap paper doesn’t stand to the pencils. They perform like charcoal without the mess of charcoal sticks.

On opening the outer packaging I found the tin to be dented and one pencil had broken its top. Its going to be a gift so will try to exchange for same. Haven't got the receipt tho......

These pencils are fantastic because it allows me to have a much more specific type of Mark making in my drawings which are specifically charcoal.I am a professional artist so it’s important they work well .Even BETTER; they are in their own tin , which keeps them contained and protected ! More than that they have their own pencil sharpener which means i don’t have to go looking for one !An excellent product for sure.
I haven’t used charcoal pencils in a very long time so decided to get this set when it was on sale. I like that you get the white tinted charcoal and the different hardness. They don’t sharpen that well but I didn’t really expect any different from charcoal. The tin doesn’t really close that well but I don’t really see these as something I would take out
This is a nice little set. Bought in a sale so the price was fantastic. Derwent pencils are always nice to use.Little bonus that I didn't realise when picking the card box off the shelf is that the charcoal pencils are in a metal case and include a sharpener. The sharpener isn't mentioned on the contents list but is a happy inclusion
Great quality and range of shades. Have to be very careful sharpening, but this seems to be the same for any charcoal pencils I have used! Fantastic price in the art event so I stocked up as I get through a lot of these.
These worked ok in an emergency, but they wouldn't be my first choice. They are student quality, not professional artist quality. The charcoal is full of scratchy particles that leave scratches rather than marks on the paper. Sharpening them is a nightmare: this is the third time I've bought this product and every time it's the same: you get to use maybe one half of the length of the product, because the charcoal core is always so broken that you have to sharpen at least a centimetre to find a usable point. The tips are just repeatedly loose broken fragments. Whether that's because they are badly made or badly handled in-store I don't know. I bought them because I ran out of charcoal and had a deadline to meet, but these would definitely not be my first choice.
These charcoal pencils are easy to blend and doesn't give a smudged look to my drawings.They have a good grip and draws smoothly and effortlessly with little smudge.Overall they're the best charcoal pencils I've ever used. They have made my drawings look more amazing and they're great for drawing eyes!I especially like the darker shading it brings to my drawings. I'm so glad that I found them at Hobbycraft!
Having always veered away from using charcoal, I recently made this purchase for use at an art class. After initially reluctantly trialling it in my sketch book, I discovered that it is a fantastically versatile product, presented beautifully and exactly what I needed for the charcoal class. After some practice applying the charcoal using different skills, I turned out the best piece of art I have ever completed and was so proud! I would highly recommend this charcoal set to any level artist! Thankyou for reigniting my passion!
