OMG. I use my reciprocating saw all the time for wood trimmings (trees/bushes/shrubs) This Dewalt replaced an electric corded saw. No more setting up my electrical cord then dragging it around. I had initial concerns of the power this 20V saw would deliver. No longer. Yesterday I cut down a dead 4" diameter Japanese Maple tree, then moved on to several large lilac bushes. Cutting them down and then reducing their length for garbage pick-up was quick and nearly effortless. Again, the power of this saw for small yard projects is great.

I think a lot of people could justify buying this saw just for cutting brush. It can get into spaces a chain saw can’t and in places where a chain saw just wouldn’t be safe. Since the blade clamp allows the saw to cut up, down, left or right, you can orient the blade to the left or the right, hold the tool upside down, and very nearly flush cut volunteer saplings close to the ground.

Needed a portable reciprocating saw for work around the house. This fit the bill as it included the battery and charger for under$100. The tool alone runs over $150 normally so this was a great deal. Tool works well and I see many years of use.

This is a review for the refurbished DCS387B. Compared to the DCS367B, the more premier item, this one has a brushed motor as opposed to brushless in the 367B and therefore is probably less powerful and eats batteries faster. This is the one they often include in combo kits of which I have no use for. On the other hand, it is way cheaper and so far has been able to rip through anything I've tried -- no problem cutting through thick steel. It's compact and seems really great. Regarding "refurbished" it looked pretty much entirely new to me, although I assume it is refurbished in some way. What a steal! I used it for about an hour with a 4Ah battery and it only went down about half way, so depending on how much you plan to destroy at once, a 2 or 5 Ah battery may be ... MoreThis is a review for the refurbished DCS387B. Like all of the XR series, this unit is well built, powerful, and does what is expected of it. It is not exactly lightweight, and vibrates a tad when in use, so prolonged useage would not be advisable, unless taking a short break now and then. The short form factor enables you to to work in tight spots, and the four positions blade is a real plus. Changing blades is quick and easy and the led light at the front can be useful. All in all an excellent product that I would have no hesitation in recommending to prospective buyers.
Not having to lug a long extension cord around is a luxury this saw provides; as well as having 4 directions you can quickly place the blade for side to side or up/down cutting. I have two batteries and needed the second one as I was cutting a short 12" thick palm tree and the first one lasted about 10 minutes of continuous cutting. The form and fit in my hands is also quite nice - unlike previous saws I've borrowed from my neighbor that stressed my hands after a while. Be aware that this review is based on a one-time usage. Time will tell if this saw makes me forever happy.
If your looking to upgrade, add on or purchase a cordless reciprocating saw, you cant go wrong with the DeWalt compact. I have a bunch of reciprocating saws Of all brands and this one does not disappoint.
I have always had traditional-style saws with the motor in-line, and when my old red-brand one gave up I was excited to get a 20v Max unit. Went for the compact version, and am very happy I did! It is well-balanced, has awesome power - just as good as my old corded unit. The compact design fits well in tight spaces, and losing the cord is amazing. The four-way blade clamp works flawlessly and is handy when cutting in tight spaces. Great saw and held up to a lot of abuse for over a year now.
Used it to cut thick cedar tree roots. Did the job so-o-o fast!!! Did not mind going thru the mud, dirt, small pebbles, etc. Very light and easy to use.The only cons - my 2AH battery got overheated very fast (just after 5-8 minutes). Now I wish I'd get a brushless versionAbout myself: I work in healthcare and only occasional intermediate DIY. I am not a handyman at all, so don't know how this saw would perform in the professional construction environment
As a recent "senior", tools seem to get heavier every year. Reciprocating saws have been my pruning tools for the last 20 years. With recent advances in quick change blades, lighter lithium batteries and additions of led lights, it was time to replace my aging cordless tools. I was concerned that with Dewalt I would be paying some for the name alone, but after using hitachi, ryobi and craftsman, I found the Dewalt brand well worth the price. Although heavier than the 19.2 volt craftsman I had settled on years ago, the varied batteries (from 2 amp to heavy 60/20 flex batteries), gave the tools a great balance that made the slightly heavier weight easier to use than my traditional craftsman.
