I don’t care what any other review says about this product!! Coming from someone in outdoor power for over 23 years and vs pruning by hand for over 30. This tool is absolutely amazing!! The speed you can prune is life changing. The size helps you did big work that was once very time consuming and involved critical thinking to achieve is now a breeze. And I don’t know who needs to prune over 1100 times before they charge again but I can tell you this I never ran the battery dry before I was able to charge the darn thing. Not that I would have to I already have like 7-8 batteries in my arsenal of dewalt products. Great job dewalt!

First saw this while I was buying the 8" pruning chain saw and thought, why? I didn't think pruning by hand with manual pruners was that big of a deal. The more I thought about it, I went back and bought it and glad I did. It was a lot of help making easy work of a lot of storm damaged trees. I also have blueberry bushes and about 80 trellised blackberry plants. I'm amazed at how much faster the pruning goes with this and no hand cramps that night. I once used it for a 7-8 hour day of pruning with just one 1.5ah battery and it wasn't spent yet. Amazed at how easy and how well it works.

I am old with arthritis in my hands that has decreased my grip strength. We have 95 acres with a lot of brush overgrowing the place. We also have goats. I cut the brush to clear the land and feed the goats who cannot be out on pasture. I used to do it with hand pruners and loppers. It has become more and more difficult. Much of what I used to cut with hand held pruners I now have to cut with loppers. Since I already have a number of 20v Dewalt tools I decided to try the cordless pruner. They have far exceeded expectations. I thought it would only make life easier on by hands which it certainly did. I really did not think it would take that much longer to cut with hand pruners than with this tool. I was wrong there. I can cut 4 times as much brush with the cordless ... MoreI am old with arthritis in my hands that has decreased my grip strength. We have 95 acres with a lot of brush overgrowing the place. I really did not think it would take that much longer to cut with hand pruners than with this tool. I was wrong there. I can cut 4 times as much brush with the cordless pruner than with the hand held pruners in the same amount of time. In part it is because they are so sturdy that it is much easier to push them through dense brush than with a hand held pruner. I had thought I would only be replacing my hand held pruners but now the cordless pruner is taking place of my loppers as well. It holds a great advantage over the loppers. With my now free hand I am able to pull branches down and cut which I could not do with both hands on the loppers. It is also so much easieron my shoulders than loppers are. Some of the brush I cut is entangled with very thin vines. I was concerned that the vines being so thin would wedge between the anvil and cutting blade. However, regardless how thin, none of the vines have wedged. Recently I cut down two trees (with my cordless Dewalt chainsaw) that were growing too close to the house. I used the cordless pruner to clean out the limbs on the downed trees. It was so much faster with the cordless. I can only equated the speed of the cordless pruner to the speed of a pneumatic nail gun. Yes, it is that fast. The cordless pruner cuts anything 1 inch and smaller with one cycle. I have cut up to the 1.5 inches at most taking three cycles, but often still taking just one cycle. Finally, after 4 days of cutting, my 5 AH battery never even dropped one bar. I only had to recharge the battery after I switched it over to the chainsaw. Dewalt classifies this as a professional level tool and I would say that is no exaggeration. If you are considering a cordless pruner I would say do not hesitate buying the Dewalt 20v pruner. You won't go wrong.

This is a wonderful tool that works amazingly well. But I have nightmares about accidentally cutting off a finger! It is really easy to use and operates well with a 3AH battery. It cuts through 2 inch thick samplings easily. It can cut through thicker branches, but you have to trigger it more than once. You have to be super careful with the thing! It has a nice safety on the trigger but you have to make sure you SEE the tip and know exactly what you're cutting. I very nearly hurt myself badly when I lost sight of my hand while trying to hold a branch under a thick hedge (losing sight of both my hand and the device). After scaring myself half to death I now do not disengage the safety until I see very clearly what is in the jaws. This thing scares me! I bought this pruner about 3 months ago. Excellent. I've made thousands of cuts with no issues. Branches over 1 inch might require two or three clicks of the trigger to cut through. The safety switch times out after 30 seconds of non use (to keep you from taping it closed im sure!) Each time you make a cut, the timer resets, so it's not a problem. If it times out, you let go of the safety switch and squeeze it again to reset the timer. The blades could be a little harder. Mine have a few marks on them, and I've never cut anything but softwood branches. I'll take a diamond file and touch them up if I notice them dulling. Works for hours on a 5Ah battery.
I just got this tool and was eager to try it. I spent 15 or so joyful minutes chopping through wild vines that had grown up around my yard. Tool worked and felt terrific - had me smiling at the thought of all I could get done.… (big, big) BUT …The darn thing just shut off. Light on but no action from the blade. Tried reinstalling battery, then swapping out. Nothing.I’ll be returning it. Very sad, and a black eye for dewalt. I have a whole garage full of black and yellow, and this is not what I’ve come to expect and rely on.
I used it the first time to prune an Asian pear tree. I was hoping it would replace the lopper. But it really struggled. It would take five to ten cuts to get through the limb, and would often quit before the cut was finished. Removing and replacing the battery got it going again. But that's not a labor saver. At the end of the day, the cutting edge was damaged, rolled over. I keep my pruning shears sharp and that never happens. Must be poor steel. Very disappointed with this tool.
This pruner has been life changing for working on landscaping projects or trimming branches out of the way when doing exterior jobs. The manual pruners started hurting my hands after using them for long periods so I bought this Dewalt pruner. The reviews worried me but after using this tool constantly for the last few months I can say that it is amazing and was money well spent. People complaining about the cut capacity must be using 1.5ah or 2ah batteries...put a 4ah or higher and this thing cuts! Worst case you just press the button a couple times if it's really thick. It won't replace a chainsaw or recip but it's a pruner so if you use it for it's intended purpose then you won't have any issues. If it breaks I would buy another one the same day.
Quiet strength describes the DeWalt 20v cordless hand pruner. Our perennial garden contains several hundred trees and shrubs so pruning is constant, this tool saves us a great deal of time and effort. This pruner capably handles material a full inch and a quarter in diameter smoothly even in tough and dense wood a quick zip and it is done. The ergonomic design along with the double safety switch ensure the user's safety. The pruner is a great addition to our collection of DeWalt cordless tools which all use the same rechargeable batteries.
We're in the process of cutting down 25 or more trees on our property to clean up our wind rows a bit. I was using my hand lopper and with the amount of branches to trim off the limbs it was tiresome. I bought this unit for that exact purpose. This pruner works perfectly and it WILL cut 1 1/2" branches albeit it takes a few pulls of the trigger to do it. I've just been using my 1.5Ah battery and haven't tried the 4Ah and 5Ah batteries that I have (haven't need them yet) and it still has a long run time. I've read some reviews where people said that they have had to reseat the battery because the unit stopped working. A 3 second battery reseat and it's back to pruning. The unit has worked flawlessly for me and I highly recommend it.
