This latest and greatest 1/4" Impact from DeWalt, the DCF845 model, on the 20V MAX XR platform has 3 Speeds and is super lightweight and skinny yet powerful enough with its brushless motor that delivers a maximum 1825 inch pounds "152 foot pounds" of torque and 3400 RPM to drive large diameter screws, bolts and other fastners. This new impact will shine on the jobsite with 30 percent more torque output than previous models. Another nice feature is the precision variable speed trigger with a 3 speed setting that limits the torque output to prevent over tightening and stripping or snapping fastners. The integrated 3 Led work light ehnances visibility in low light areas. I replaced my old worn out driver with this one about three months ago. So far I’m very impressed. I haven’t found many uses for the variable speed yet (I usually have it on the fastest) but I can see it being useful if you need to be careful about your screw depth on more delicate materials like drywall. I’ve dropped it off ladders, left it out in the snow, and still with no issues. I even was able to use it to change my tires after manually cracking the lug nuts. I am building a deck next month and look forward to testing its power on some longer GRK structural screws. All in all I am thoroughly impressed by its performance and price point.

I started off with an 886 that has served me well though numerous diy renovations in and around the house. It's a work horse but there are a few times where I wish I would have had more control over the speed, especially where working with material other than 2x4s. I also wound up with an Atomic impact that I keep in the house as part of my "clean tools". I liked the more compact form factor compared to the 886. As soon as I got the DCF845 I knew I had the best of all worlds. It's more powerful and more flexible than the 886 especially when paired with a powerstack battery, and more compact than the Atomic. I'll keep the Atomic as a "clean tool" but the 886 will be relegated to a back up the 845 is a huge step up for me.

This new DeWALT 20v 1/4 impact is impressive. Comparing this new impact (DCF845) to my older model (DCF887), I am shocked at how DeWALT continues to make improvements, all while maintaining the tools size and weight. This new impact has a max RPM of 3400 compared to the DCF887, which topped out at 3250. I used this drill to add joist supports in the attic above my garage. My house was built in the early 1940s with old true lumber. I have used many drills in the past that would overheat or not have enough power to get through this hard wood. This impact proved its power by driving 3 1/2 inch screws into 6x6 support beams with ease. The added grip and brighter led lights helped immensely while working in the dark, narrow portions of my attic. I am very pleased with ... MoreThis new DeWALT 20v 1/4 impact is impressive. If you are looking for a new impact with high torque and fast RPM, that is also compact, you won’t be disappointed in this choice. It has the power to tackle any job!
This thing is awesome. I have to older version of the impact and the improvements are great. It is small which allows me to get in smaller places. The updated lights are great much brighter. I do not use the chip system but if i owned a big business they wouldn't go missing. The different settings will make using it to do certain tasks easier. The one thing that makes me excited, was the chuck was bigger and easier to switch bits. This makes a big difference when wearing gloves. The brushless motor is nice and like the speed and torque. I can not wait to get more time using this thing with the new battery. Thanks dewalt for the nice tool.
I received the DCF845 about a month ago and at first glance it looked nearly identical to the DCF887 which has been a very dependable tool for years and with similar size/weight/torque/RPM specs. How much difference could there be with a virtually identical tool? I used the DCF845 installing new cabinets and it handled sinking large and small screws great. For large fasteners, I found the DCF845 to perform 20-30% faster than the DCF887 but was also much smoother. For light screws attaching the doors I didn't have any problems with too much power as I have in the past. The variable speed controls seem improved and don't give the feeling of losing control of the power. The variable speed controls seem improved and don't give the feeling of losing control of the power. The DCF845 with increased power control didn't make me reach for another tool to do the job because it was too powerful and had the ability to dial it back when needed. I was not expecting that kind of performance improvement.Beyond delivering more power the DCF845 also improves the fit with the Powerstack batteries. I've been using the Powerstacks for about a year and I've struggled with the fit where the latch doesn't disengage smoothly to detach the batteries or the balance of the tools feels off to me since the battery is so light. With the DCF845 the battery is a perfect fit to the design of the tool. It's not too noticeable in the photo but the DCF845 is on the right, it's slightly shallower, slightly narrower and slightly shorter, less than a 1/4" in any direction but the balance of the tool feels better with the PowerStack. It's a very comfortable tool and there seems to be an improved balance that I prefer. I'm curious to see how that translates to other tools in the Dewalt family that are getting optimized for Powerstack.Overall, very pleased with the increased top end performance, better low end touch and feel and improved design to fit the balance of the Powerstack batteries. Highly recommend!
This is my new favorite power tool.My last cordless driver would lose battery life easily and at times couldn't deliver the power needed. Not so with Dewalt’s 20V MAX* XR® 1/4" 3-Speed Impact Driver. It is a work horse! I can change bits with one hand and the battery is super easy to remove and charge. Placement of the lights is perfect to illuminate the work area. The three speed power regulator switch is very nice and combined with the variable speed trigger, you have more precise control of drilling speed at each of the levels. It also allows you to easily moderate the impact torque at each of the 3 levels, providing better overall control. I've found that I can handle most everything on level 2. A larger lag bolt may require level 3, but on 3, it's too easy to drive a screw through the board if you're not careful. On level 3, the max torque is 152 ft-lbs which is enough to injure your wrist if you're not prepared for the driver’s power. The XR is quieter than the previous model. In my workbench test at high speed on level 3, the noise was 79db regardless of battery pack. The older model registered 86dB, so the new model is definitely quieter! With the 20V Powerstack battery, drill life was excellent. I finished a good sized project without having to change the battery pack once. I’m sure the brushless motor on the Driver aids in the efficiency and extends battery life. The new design is more appealing as well. The yellow is a nice accent trim to the black. The three LED Lights appear to have improved brightness. It fits just right in my large hands. I can get a good grip and the driver is well balanced with the Powerstack battery.
First off the torque settings are absolutely awesome! I've worked on so many HVAC systems and appliances where someone has stripped out the screws using a regular impact. This impact you just set it to 1 and that problem is gone (wish more techs had this!). If you need more torque just bump up the speed. Paired with DeWalts PowerStack this impact is lightweight and powerful. I was sceptical at first but have used and abused this bad boy and for sure it's replacing my older DeWalt impact on my jobs now. I absolutely recommend this tool.
I love it! I’m a mechanic and use it everyday. It has replaced all of my air ratchets. It has the power to take off rusty hard to break loose fasteners. And the trigger is awesome. Squeeze it just a little and you can start a bolt without worry of cross threading it. Squeeze it all the way and click torqued to spec. 🙂 the multiple bright led lights are always aimed right where your looking too which helps a lot. The day I got it my ice maker broke. So I used it to take it all apart and repair it. It’s was the cleanest job it will ever see.
Dewalt has out done themselves again. I've had several 20V quarter inch impacts and they have all been great reliable tools. Never had one fail yet. This new XR 3 speed impact is down right impressive. The toqure, speed, and precision of this tool is awesome. My first project was running 3 inch x 3/8 lag bolts into 4x4 wooden posts so I could pop the posts out of the ground with a Hi Lift jack. This impact buzzed those lag bolts in with ease and just kept going. Doing the project in a muddy field while it was raining ment this impact was going to get soaked and muddy. After 3 hrs of water and mud this impact was going strong and never missed a beat. Once again Dewalt has put out another great product. The new leds are stupid bright and make low light work easy. ... MoreDewalt has out done themselves again.
