This tool cuts through plastic pipe like a knife through butter. I have slid the blades behind my wood trim to cut nails and remove the trim without any damage. I LOVE this tool and also appreciate the long life batteries seem to have with this. It's also nice to be able to orient the blades into variable angles to accommodate various tight places.

The Dewalt multi tool has to be one of my favorites. So easy to use and gets the job done. This tool can cut through almost anything with ease. When I’m working this tool comes in handy cutting baseboards, making outlet cutouts and notching cabinets in my case. With a nice fresh blade it cuts like butter. Hitting a nail in baseboard? No problem with the power this can deliver you can just push right through. Tight space ? Just rotate the blade with its integrated quick blade disconnect and multi position blade angle head. I would highly recommend this tool for anyone in need of a powerful multi tool.

Whether you're cutting through some metal in a tight space, or crafting a custom wood project, this is THE tool. You will come up with uses for it when another tool is just not able to fit or accomplish the task, and occasionally can be used in a pinch where other tools might be more appropriate, but you don't want to get a router setup out for one cut.I bought this multi-tool after a cousin stole my cheap harbor freight multi tool. I did a bit of research and wanted to go cordless anyway and already had some DeWalt and a red competitor's tools. I took a look at what other multi-tools offered, and I had found the most frustrating part of using a multi tool was that it was obnoxious to switch tasks/tool-heads and required an allen key for most brands. The DeWalt offered the best solution I could find from a reputable brand. For me, the quick-change is what really makes this tool incredible. Being able to switch between a carbide blade for messy cuts, or switching back and forth between cutting and sanding is no longer a chore and allowed me to make quick work smoothing out some beautiful curves on a custom retrofitted door-frame in my older home. I recommend this tool to anyone I see using a multi-tool, and immediately point out is superiority. I got the full kit which comes with a screws that allows it to retrofit blades that aren't optimized for the quick-change, and that comes with the precision spacing jig. To get the most out of it, stick to the quick change blades that come in the set, or grab an expanded set specifically made for it, they're not that expensive from 3rd parties.

Good for quick work, not for precision

This oscillating tool works great for jobs where you need one of the three speeds provided. If you pull on the trigger all the way, it's a very controlled tool. It works great for cutting drywall for electric boxes, undercutting door casings for floor installation, and for sanding. It's been a go-to tool on the jobsite for those tasks. Why a three-star review? The variable speed trigger is frustrating to use. A slight increase in pressure causes a big jump in speed. For those jobs where precision matters, this has been a major disappointment (e.g. using the tool with a diamond blade to cut out grout). The tool would jump from the grout line as the speed unexpectedly increased, damaging surrounding tile. I have bought into the dewalt system and I do like the variable speed paddle trigger over switches. But if you understand multi-tools, then you know the speed at which the blade vibrates and how much pressure you put on the blade, will determine how long the expensive blades for this tool will last. I was surprised to see that they have added a ‘1-2-3’ speed set on this tool like the higher end drill line, to help dial in the speed but even with a variable speed trigger, it can be hard to dial in the right speed for the blades being used. What would be nice is a ‘1-10’ dial that used the number set to, as the peak of the paddle switch speed. I do enjoy dewalt tools and they get the job done, but sometimes they seem to not make a dramatic enough approach for the professionals out there that depend daily on these tools, unlike other brands. Something else I would highly enjoy to see on every dewalt tool is a pocket (like drills) or rafter hook (like air guns) on every tool. Using a multi-tool 2 stories in the air, without any way to safely store away from drops is one of the most annoying things, and the best solution I have come up with is to steal a pocket hook from an old drill to put on this tool that has the ability to take such a hook.

I use tool daily to cut, notch, trim, chisel, strip, etc. Most versatile tool in my bag. To cut doorways to install luxury vinyl, I lay piece of vinyl next to jam, lay tool flat on the luxury vinyl and cut away. It’s perfect height for vinyl to slide underneath. Also use to cut caulk for removal of various items like backsplash/riser, trim, and if careful can use to free old silicone around risers o. sinks or tiled corners in showers. (Use dull blade for that) the metal cutting blades will cut extremely soft metals, but even blades designed to cut off nails will damage blade cutting one nail unless nail is nearly rusted through. Also use to cut PVC, rubber tubing, notch boards, etc. A million + uses

Sanding and cutting

I recently bought this model multitool for sanding and cutting off hard to reach places on my woodworking projects. It works great being able to sand in the small hard to reach places my orbital sander won't reach and same for the cutting with the different size blades that it comes with I'm able to make detailed and precise cuts where an ordinary saw just doesn't allow me to do that. Also the multiple speeds allow me to send at different places which is great when working all the small details, whether I'm at full speed to sand a large area or at low speeds sanding smaller more delicate parts. I'm still in the process of restraining and sealing it otherwise I would post before and after photos but when completed il revise this post with photos of before I sanded with this tool and after. Overall a tough little powertools that has the power for bigger projects with the option of delicate details as well. Also it's extremely simple to change out the tools you need with the quick change lever. Couldn't ask for a more universal tool. Also the motor is very strong and capable of running for hours at a time as long as you have the batteries to do so. I have used a 2 amp power stack battery and a regular 6 amp battery and I prefer the 6 amp just because it lasts so much longer but I can feel a difference when I have a fresh power stack battery in it cause the output allows the tool to run at a higher level.

The tool I never knew I needed
26 May 2022

Have used the tool more than I thought I would have. Used it to cut through metals, wood, drywall and excess spray foam. Used it for sanding and works really well for that, easy to get into corners. The versatility makes this my favourite go to tool and has helped me get more projects done around home. Vibration is pretty noticeable on the 3rd setting full go but nothing that would harm the cutting precision and control of the tool. Otherwise vibration is pretty minimal for the type of tool it is. Noise isnt to bad but would wear hearing protection if on 3rd setting or cutting metal. As per usual it has the dewalt quality fit and finish.

Works great! Another welcome addition to my Dewalt 20v tool collection (addiction ;) )
28 March 2022

Works great and sooo much handier than dragging out a cord all the time. I have almost replaced all my cord tools with Dewalt 20v now and the next cord tool I need to use will be replaced too! So with that said the variable speed in each of the 3 speed ranges is real nice and so is the bright led. fwtw my genesis this replaced wasn't variable speed, and quick-change blades is nice even though its common now on tools. For sure this tool will get used a lot more than my other oscillating tool ever did because its just so easy to use. .
