This is the perfect saw for all uses. It is so compact and small that it allows you to take it and use it in places that you never thought you could take a skill saw. The blade is just big enough to allow for a full cut through any 2x materials. It is also isn’t lacking any power being as small as it is. No problems getting through anything treated or lvls. Overall my favorite tool that dewalt has came out with.

I have purchased several 4.5" saws, all electrical by other manufacturers. They are very uncomfortable to use in that they are unorthodox to hold and maneuver through the cutting process. As a full time General Contractor I own a lot of 20 volt Dewalt tools. Each perform exceptionally well and are a pleasure to use. The 20 volt grinder, the 20 Volt saw zaw, the 20 volt band saw, the 20 volt Jig saw, the 20 volt circular saw and the 20 volt flash light are my go to tools. In the 1970's through the 1990's I was a welder and used Black & Decker grinders only. Today, I still do some welding on piping brackets in buildings. Bought this a few months back and have had a chance to use several times. Overall works great for sheet cutting and 2x4's. Like how easy it is to drop into a sheet to start a cut or quickly trim a 2x4. Only complaint I have is same as some of the others, the dust port. Got my shop vac hooked up to it and worked fairly well but was in the way trying to move the hose around while running a long cut. Would work much better if it were pointed more toward the rear and affixed better so you could pull the hose along and not be pulling the saw sideways while trying to make a straight cut. If you run it without a dust collection the discharge pretty much ends up on your cutting line and makes it hard to see.Bought this a few months back and have had a chance to use it ... MoreBought this a few months back and have had a chance to use several times. Overall works great for sheet cutting and 2x4's! Like how easy it is to drop into a sheet to start a cut or quickly trim a 2x4. Pretty easy to cut true and straight and have pretty much shelved my worm drive Skil saw.Only complaint I have is same as some of the others, the dust port. Got my shop vac hooked up to it (using several adapters I had) and worked fairly well but the hose was in the way and became a bit of a hassle to move the hose around while running a long cut. Would work much better if the discharge tube were a bit longer, angled differently, and affixed better so you could use two hands on the saw to keep it straight while pulling the hose along. Dust bag might be nice, just not sure how well it will feed into it. I will probably drill a hole and put a screw in the tube to hold it in place and adapt my chop saw dust bag for use on this and see how that works. If you run it without a dust collection on long cuts the discharge can end up pretty much on your cutting line since its (understandably) at the front and has a very short discharge tube. Really not a major issue or at least no worse than some of my other tools but certainly could have been designed a little better. Kind of seems like an afterthought on what is otherwise I think a great design. Short cuts no real issues.Haven't had to replace the blade yet, so hoping the supply chain has caught up and these are readily available. I tend to stick with my 5ah or 6ah batteries since they seem to balance the tool out better than the smaller 20v batteries.Overall, love this thing! Find myself using it more and more, just hope blades don't become its downfall.
It's amazing what a difference an inch makes. For years I used a jigsaw for making straight cuts in smaller projects, but not only was that tedious, but the results were often unsatisfactory, and far from straight. I tried a Dremmel circular saw, but the depth of cut was limited and there were too many things it could not do. Yet a 5½" circular saw was too unwieldy for smaller projects. I considered Makita's 4½" saw when it came out but, seriously, 12 volts? The reviews bore out my suspicions on that. In the meantime I bought a no-name corded model. It was everything I wanted from a compact circular saw, but the fence action was terrible and it was corded. Electrical outlets were never convenient and I considered it a matter of when, not if I would accidentally saw ... MoreIt's amazing what a difference an inch makes. It was everything I wanted from a compact circular saw, but the fence action was terrible and it was corded. Electrical outlets were never convenient and I considered it a matter of when, not if I would accidentally saw through the cord. Some tools just shouldn't be powered through a cord, as my dad found out with his hedge trimmer in the days before lithium batteries. The DeWalt ATOMIC 4½" circular saw is everything I would expect in a DeWalt cordless power tool. It's well-built, durable and accurate. Cuts are true and precise and all adjustments work the way one would expect them to. It's so much more maneuverable than a 5½" circular saw that there's no comparison. It's the perfect tool for making straight cuts with smaller projects.Of course nothing's perfect, and there are some minor quibbles. The sawdust exhaust comes apart too easily, and the dust bag isn't included. I'm sure DeWalt expected the user to hook up a shop vac, but that really defeats the purpose of a cordless tool and a bag is sufficient. It's not even clear which dust bag to order, as it's listed as a dust collection bag for a miter saw. Why would someone use a dust bag on a bench tool such as a miter saw and not on a cordless circular saw? The bag costs less than $12, and it should have been included in the box. Also, a laser sight should have at least been an optional accessory, if not included in the box. A laser sight would make some jobs so much easier and there's no excuse for not including at least a place to attach one. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier with this saw.
Haven’t used a lot since getting, but that was the whole point for me buying it…I’m not a professional carpenter by any stretch of the imagination…hence me purchasing this cordless saw. I do a lot of gardening and am always in need of cutting various wood types to feed my hobby…this beats pulling out the corded large circular saw for those once in a while cuts…I’ve got plenty of Dewalt 20V batteries and even though each is only 2amp, they work for me because I’m not using for hours on end…bottom line, I really like having this for the convenience and it does exceed my expectations so far (hence the 5 stars). Also, big shoutout to TSC for being $10 less than else where!
As an installer of furniture in NYC, I often times have to modify surfaces to accommodate end users. Traveling in the city with tools is always a burden, so when I saw this saw I thought it would be easier to carry around then my usual 6.5". So I bought it. I love this thing. Today I made a "rip" cut on a file bank top to have top the same depth as the files cabinets.I cut through 6 feet of 1.5" veneered particle board.I had a 4ah battery on the saw. Not once did the saw stall or bind. The cut was clean and smooth and with the included detachable adjustable fence, set up for the cut was a breeze. I love this saw. It is now my favorite. My Milwaukee will be put away .I wish the saw was shorter 17" is long and had to fit in my work bag
Nice little saw but not a great little saw. I bought this saw in the in the kit with saw, bag charger and batter a few months ago. I Have use it a lot....lots of power. And battery has a lot of cuts in it. Very convenient to pull out of garage for a few quick cuts. My main beef with it it it doesn't have a laser guide ang given with one hand the saw does not give straight cuts I think a laser would have made a lot of difference. Great for rough quick cuts....but not where accuracy counts. What would it have cost to add a laser guide..$10,00? Dewalt too the cheap
Picked this little saw up for my wife to help finish with some deck & stair projects. It is so much handier than pulling out the 7 1/4" corded circular saw for making a bunch of cuts. I bought a set of generic 6.5 amp batteries and a fast charger for it as the standard 1.5 amp Dewalt batteries we have worked but did not give many cuts and the standard slow charger is to slow for these big batteries. Overall solid construction and a good value as I go this saw in near new condition for a fraction of a new one. It will be a quality go to tool for some time and help finish some of the last renovation projects in our home.
I have been wanting a smaller battery operated circular saw. I did my research and it came down to this and one other. What ultimately decided it for me was that I needed to replace most of my battery operated to tools. I loved my old set -but after 20 plus years of lots of use - the collets weren’t working and it was time for new batteries. My hands are not as strong as they used to be - so size - weight and battery removal is really important. I couldn’t pinch my fingers together hard enough to get the batteries off my old kit. Time and time again I found myself in a spot where my project was not portable - and my 5 1/2” circular saw was not able to get into tighter spaces.I love this 4 1/2” saw.
